I’m not much of a self-help book reader, but I won a copy of this on Goodreads and providing a review is the polite thing to do. At first, I didn’t want to jump in because my anxiety is often triggered by the mention of anxiety so why would I want to put myself through that? But the good thing about this guide is that it openly suggests to only read a bit at a time. There are thoughtful and helpful little nuggets of suggestions that can be taken as-needed. Nothing about it is overwhelming or condescending. I’d recommend giving it a thoughtful read from time to time.
I received a Kindle version of this book through a Goodreads giveaway. Although I found myself distracted by grammatical errors that must have been missed in the editing process, I overall appreciated this book, plan on revisiting it, and will also be recommending it to some friends that can relate.
There were many solid pieces of advice in this quick guide, but I wish there were some more included as I struggle very much with anxiety. For what was included, I am very thankful to be able to have as a reference for later. #Goodreadsgiveaway
Wow. I finished it in maybe... 1 hour. I was nervous to read it because well one of my anxiety triggers that need help is being okay thinking about it. I thought this book would make me think too much about it and I would end up having an attack. Yes, I noticed my foot shaking as I thought, " ok, just get it over with". Well, I did it.
I can say I found this helpful in the most simple, straight forward and most relatable way. Her language style definitely is relatable and makes you think that you are the one thinking all this. I had so many highlighted notes that I liked and would like to remember or things she suggested and plan on using. It also gave me a bit more confidence to take on my anxiety. Again, I postponed reading this so much because I thought it would send me a downward spiral but it was not even close. It was an easy read. I would recommend reading this in general but specifically if you have a young one starting off feeling this way. Definitely informative without being overbearing.
As a therapist, I appreciated how this book follows what we always say as therapists- that we wish we could write a book that says all the things we find ourselves repeating over and over for our clients- so that all the information was in one spot. Well, for basic anxiety- this is it. I enjoyed that it was a quick read with bolded bullet point-like paragraphs. I actually enjoyed that there were no "chapters" and that you didn't have to weed through a ton of "research" or "high level" reading to get to the actual skills and things you needed. I even appreciated the caveat at the beginning telling someone to not try and digest all the information or it could get worse. And the part where it says "skills" can sometimes make things worse? Golden. I could have done without the "10-minute therapist" part of the title as it assumes you can water down therapy to 10 minutes, but as for the rest of it? Solid.
I've never had a panic attack or considered myself to have struggles with anxiety. However, as I've gotten older and more aware of the world around me, and of myself, I've come to realize that yes, anxiety has come to pay visits. I would pace or find things to do, waiting for the feeling to pass. It was just every now and then, nothing constant. I didn't know the triggers nor did I believe it happened because of anything external. This book gives a variety of exercises that can be done to help you make it through. Take a step back, know that you'll be okay, and if one way doesn't work, try another, and just breathe. I recommend this book to anyone who needs help in finding a way to move forward!
This guide to combatting anxiety can be of use to anyone that is dealing with it. There are so many methods that target different aspects of fear and anxiety. A lot of these methods I have already learned from my own therapist, but there are some new methods that I can try from this guide for sure. The methods that I have used do work to reduce anxiety and can be altered to fit each person's needs!
This is a quick read and I will be recommending it to clients that struggle with anxiety. In session we talk about most everything in this guide, but I believe it will help them to have a copy on hand for a quick reference. The author uses a lot of relatable examples in her explanations and shares some of her experiences. She also has a great sense of humor.
I liked this book as it was very relatable. It has sound basic advice that could be put into practice. I would recommend it to anyone who gets stuck in their own head.
I received a free copy of this book for an honest review. I enjoyed reading this book for multiple reasons. I am currently in therapy and love the different perspectives and different strategies given in the story.
I... Loved... This... Book... Sage takes her professional experience and personal experience and puts it together in this easy to read, digestible guide. The advise is practical and very helpful.
