As a result of the divine spirits’ protection, Agnes has an unusual and often embarrassing power: whenever she experiences strong emotions, she makes mushrooms sprout on people! One day, her royal fiancé, who claims to have dragon’s blood, breaks off his engagement to Agnes claiming to have found his true soulmate. Her reputation tarnished, Agnes vows to return to commoner life, when she’s unexpectedly summoned to a ball by her ex-fiancé’s cousin, a prince who is far from horrified by her mushrooming him.
“This is fate! I promise you, it’s no spore-of-the-moment decision! My morels are not questionable! You and I would make the mushiest couple imaginable! Would you marry me?”
Agnes has a lot to deal with: her personal “flaws”, an endless onslaught of mushrooms, and the attentions of a prince with a serious fungal fetish. Can Agnes get through this and face up to her true self, or will it all prove just a little too mush?
This one's for the mycophiles! And people who enjoy corny mushroom puns in their goofy fantasy romances. Not only does each chapter end with a run-down of all of the mushrooms that made an appearance (and their feelings for heroine Agnes), but the story is very sweet as Agnes has to learn to overcome the ill effects of her ex-fiance Philip's terrible gaslighting. And, you know, hero Claude has to learn how to make a decent marriage proposal so that the woman he loves doesn't think he's proposing to a mushroom.

Attention to all mushroom freak (and romance book reader) , this book it's perfect for you where there is a lot of mushiest mushrooms and sweetest fluffy mushiest romantic moments of true love!
The book also mention a lot of mushrooms type which is quite interesting
What the what did I just read? I have to say that neither of the main characters were particularly appealing. Agnes is willfully dense and Claude's mushroom thing is plain weird.
Initially I found the mushroom intro chapters annoying, but as the mushrooms became more and more anthtropomorphized those became my favorite parts of the book and probably the only reason I finished.
Not sure I cam recommend this. Unless you really are a person with a mushroom fascination
*Frauchen anfunkel*
First things first before I get into my admittedly negative review: I spent my audible credit on this. That's why I felt compelled to finish even though I wasn't enjoying it. Anyway.
I wanted to like this one, I really did. The premise and puns are cute, and the narrator is talented, but this became increasingly painful to listen to as time went on because the entire plot of the story is built on miscommunication and our main character being willfully ignorant and jumping to conclusions. The last chapter tries to justify the secrets and poor communication with its “big reveal”, but it just does not work. And unless the author contrives MORE miscommunication, I can’t imagine what the next two books could possibly be about, now that the prince is being honest and the heroine has recognized that she was brainwashed and traumatized the whole time.
The pacing, setting, and worldbuilding of the story is also incredibly lacking, which yes, is normal for a light novel, but why are we normalizing poor craft? Not to mention having the same information repeated multiple times throughout every chapter also got real tired real quick. Honestly the first 7 chapters could have easily been condensed into 3, that's how much repetition there was. Really disappointed because I was hoping this would be a cute, cozy, and magical romcom, but it’s pretty clear the author just needed an excuse to write about their niche interest in mushrooms. Seriously, the end of every chapter included a "Mushrooms of the Day!" recap, in which the author recounted every mushroom that appeared in the chapter, gave redundant description and facts about it, and then added little personifications like "it appeared to tell Agnes to listen to Claud!" and "a busybody mushroom". It was cute at first, but these segments would add another 5 or so minutes to each chapter, and when I'm just trying to be done already, extra fluff like this just isn't welcome. I can see this being a nice addition to the physical copies of this book, however, since there's probably pictures and you can just skip over it.
All in all, this was an unfortunate pick for me, and hasn't changed my opinion on light novels at all. Props to the translator for the wordplay across languages though. Credit where credit is due. And speaking of credits, I want mine back. Never again, light novels, never again.
If you ever want to know how it feels to be courted by Jade Leech from Twisted Wonderland, but in the form of a dragon descendant instead of a 4 meter long moray eel, definitely read this book.
Nah, I'm only half joking. Maybe.
This makes quite an interesting read. It starts out with a classic engagement break-up scene, but this isn't a villainess story. Instead, the main character Agnes has suffered gaslighting for six long years in the hands of her stupid fiancé who ends up cheating on her. She's been brainwashed to believe that her appearance is vile, and that her ability to communicate with spirits is creepy. The fact that she sprouts mushroom on people (mostly men) really isn't helping, so her self esteem is at rock bottom. Well… except she soon receives a marriage proposal from Claude, her ex's cousin and a prince with a massive mushroom fetish.
See? Jade Leech. 🍄💕
The romance in this book is nicely written, with a lot of frustrating and bittersweet moments due to Agnes' nonexistent confidence, being a victim of gaslighting for so long. That's what makes it interesting, because Claude really has to work hard on undoing the damage caused by her stupid ex. It even goes all the way to the epilogue, because her stupid ex keeps coming back to pester her. It might seem a tad unbelievable that someone could be so nasty and entitled, but this is literally how abusers treat their victims. People like this do exist, and it's a bit surprising to see a portrayal of an abusive relationship in a fantasy light novel that maintains a lighthearted tone through the majority of the book.
Overall, I really enjoyed this one. It even has a little section at the end of each chapter, featuring all the mushrooms that make appearance in the chapter. They gradually gain sentience over time, with their own opinions about the various situations Agnes finds herself in. It's really cute, especially Amanita Muscaria in the epilogue. Seems like there might be three volumes in this series, with the third one still being serialized as a web novel. I'll be patiently waiting for the time when I can see Agnes, Claude, and all the mushrooms again.
The premise of this book was really interesting but that was as good as it gets apparently. For the first few chapters, this book was fairly amusing. The gag of the mushrooms sprouting everywhere was funny at first. But the gag never ends and it gets old really quickly.
The biggest reason this book was a fail for me, is the author's writing style generally. It's just all over the place; it's very amateurish in the formulation, interspaced with increasingly off-the-mark mushroom gags. None of the characters had a solid foundation. The side characters appear randomly and just do whatever they want, their actions being completely mystifying. The female lead is dense and willful (never a good combination), and the male lead has got to be up there in the list of "Most Unreliable Male Protagonist Ever". Why does he keep leaving her alone at balls anyway? Plus 80% of their problems could have been resolved in a few chapters if the prince wasn't such an idiot, especially during their first meeting.
The story is too shallow and empty in content to be worth reading in this medium. It would have been so much better in manga format.
I wish author-san would get a better editor as the story itself has just great potential.
This book is very episodic and assumes you've forgotten a lot between chapters. Characters will be reintroduced with the same descriptive words every time. Yes, Claude is the handsome prince with the gray eyes and the Prussian blue hair. We get it. Every chapter ends with a rundown of every mushroom that made an appearance, with increasing personification of the mushrooms as the chapters wear on.
Most of the first half is repetitive filler. Halfway through Agnes starts cultivating an herb garden to make money and it starts to scratch that cozy fantasy itch. The plot picks up with actual conflicts and relationship development. If you're bored early on, skip ahead to the 50% mark.
Audiobook notes: The volume fluctuates quite a bit, especially early on. Agnes has a "talk to spirits" voice that is especially high pitched and somewhat painful.
I swear Japanese light novels rarely dissapoints! This is such a cute and fluffy story filled with various informations about different specimen of mushrooms. Really, who would've thought of having a lady sprouting mushrooms as a main character? The idea of mushroom sprouting is unique itself, weaved with humorous but cute and fluffy story, makes it such an enjoyable read!
People might get annoyed with Agnes along the way but once you understand her situation, it's a no wonder that she became like that. The random various mushroom sprouting is also funny. I never thought I would be interested in mushrooms until I read this book.
It’s a really nice take on the usual formula of : Boy1 is engaged to Girl Boy1 treats Girl badly and publicly ends things. Boy2 arrives and falls in love with Girl Girl doesn’t believe Boy2 and hijinks are caused.
Love Agnes’ family and how they support her. Love how it shows the mental state an emotionally abusive relationship can create (with appropriate fictional allowances). My favourite bits are absolutely the chapter ending “mushroom of the chapter “ comments filled with anecdotes about why the mushrooms appeared and what they were trying to say or do, even if no one could hear them as they’re mushrooms.
The puns are nearly painful, and yet so fitting at the same time. A good portion of the book is also descriptions of the mushrooms from that chapter and why they sprouted, which while informative, is a bit distracting from the overall story. The prince is possibly even more eccentric than Agnes, though in this case that seems to work in her favor. Agnes, on the other hand, is extremely dense and clearly has nearly no self confidence coming out of her previous engagement. In that respect, the prince and her family really do all band together to help her, even if her family might understandably be a bit wary of the prince to begin with.

Well written and a very nice (albeit predictable) plot...but, hey, tropes are tropes for a reason. At first I was like what is up with the mushroom descriptions, but the mushrooms quickly became my favorite characters! Very enjoyable, however a sobering view of the really traumatic and enduring effects of gas-lighting. Low-key deep psychology.
Sweet and funny “fake dating” story about a girl who sometimes sprouts mushrooms.
I will say being in Agnes head is kind of heavy but honestly fairly realistic after spending many years with an emotionally manipulative (maybe emotionally abusive too?) boyfriend. I adore that Claude tried to meet her where she’s at in her healing journey and woos her.
The mushroom of the day section is adorable and I feel like I learned way more about mushrooms than I could have imagined.
Very fun read and silly at the start. However the longer the book went on the more one note it felt. The premise is a fun one but the execution of it left a bit to be desired. It had an okay exploration of the MC’s previous relationship issues at the very end but before that for the rest of the book she is completely dense past the point of being entertaining
Don’t regret reading this but wish there was more to it
I just finished this book and it was alright. If there is a seco book Im not sure how they would fallow up due to the book ending nicely without a cliffhanger. Maybe make it she is a princess in her fathers country and she is the the only heir and need to be married to someone from that country or something. We will see
The title is kind of misleading. The prince is in a dragon just has a vestiges of dragon blood. She’s not a princess but she does produce mushrooms. There’s lotta talk about mushrooms. It’s really a book about mushrooms. With a side of romance. And a heroine, who is so broken that she can’t see reality. That was perhaps some of the most intriguing bits.
This story is strange but in the best way. I love the characters and the way they interact, along with the entire idea of dragonmates and oddly enough the fact that she sprouts mushrooms on people. There is a lot to like and laugh about. The only frustrating part was how dense she is about affection. The mild revenge at the end made up for that quite nicely though!
The book blurb sounded interesting and at first the few pages it sounded interesting. But the FMC is such stupid and very annoying and irritating. The whole time complaining and how often it was repeated just terrible. It only got a 0.5 more for sassy mushrooms and that's it really. Would not suggest at all!
Wow what a story!! I loved the ending and I cannot wait for the next book to come out. I am very curious to see how her powers grow and see what other mushrooms our mushroom princess sprouts😘😍😘😍!!
I would really love for another book, but it sounds like this one is one and done. This story was beautiful and funny. I didn't realize how many mushroom puns there would be. The story is full of love and i wish i could see more story from characters.
Stand alone romantic manga about a girl who is dumped by her emotionally abusive fiancé and then encounters a prince who seems to have a mushroom fetish. Be prepared for many thick descriptions of mushrooms in every chapter.
A well-written light novel about a mushroom obsessed prince discovering his soulmate is a young woman who was blessed by spirits to spawn mushrooms everywhere. ~ Overall predictable & enjoyable! Not something I see re-reading but it was worth the time.
Anges’ fiancée breaks up with her at a royal ball in front of everyone! Then he tries to throw her in the dungeon!! Thankfully, the crown Prince Claude comes to her rescue! Will this be the start of a new love story?
I was interested in the mushrooms....like maybe I can learn some with a cute story attached....or I thought so from the reviews 😅 Now I need to erase the phrase "Prussian blue hair " from m head, but not bad. A good listen nevertheless..
This is a cute little story. Thought have to say the MC lady is quite obtuse but can't blame here since she was essentially emotionally and psychologically traumatized.
