Delectable survival cooking from the down-on-her-luck elf!
Despite being born as a Fore Elf—one of the “beautiful creatures that inhabit the forest”—young Mell Risurisu suffers from poverty, a total lack of skills, and no magic powers whatsoever at her disposal. Determined to save her beloved little sisters from a life of hardship, Mell decides to join Enoch—the royal order of knights. Upon being assigned as a field medic to the Second Expeditionary Squadron, which boasts only four members to its name, she’s shocked to discover…
Bread as hard as stone and rubbery jerky made of mystery meat?!
This simply won’t do! Medic Risurisu’s knowledge as a child of the forest is her greatest weapon in the battle for delicious food on the go!
I've always enjoyed anime, manga and light novels involving food and this was right up my alley. It was a simple premise, loaded with food, plentiful slice of life and some action to boot. It was a gentle journey from start to finish and I quite enjoyed it.
The characters were interesting, though a tad two-dimensional, but I guess more time will have to be given to kinda see some growth in that. The writing is simplistic, though I have learnt to lower expectations on that front when it comes to light novels.
All in all, it was just a nice little read to while away some time and I definitely will be back for more.
This has become one of my new favorites, and I really hope we get more! This was a light, cute story about a poor elf girl learning to cook, make friends, and recognize her own worth.
Mell and all of the side characters are fun to read about. They each have their own distinct personality, and I loved watching them interact with each other. Is it the most in-depth characterization ever? No. But it's cute and it's exactly what I wanted. I hope that if we get more novels, we get more relationship building between the crew!
The cooking descriptions were great and made me want to cook more myself! I also thought that the art pages were really well done. The characters look great and I appreciated seeing the food illustrated as well.
This book is not action or plot heavy so if you are looking for something along those lines, this is not for you.
A story of a cute elf girl joining a knight order to help out her poor family and funny thing that happen along the way. This story is full of fun & unusual characters full of great personality quirks. The recipes the main character makes seem delicious too. Found the artwork of this light novel to be great and wonderfully portrayed the cute elf girl. Hope there will be more story to come!!!!!
It's as if Mary Poppins or Martha Stewart had their own Fantasy novel series. Although most fantasy adventure series use food recipes, food preparation and eating as fillers to their stories, this story is about cooking, cleaning and healing...with little to no action, nothing at all interesting or entertaining to read...If the author wanted to talk about food recipes, the illustrator could include "real food recipes" or real cooking procedures instead of just taking made up fiction about cooking, healing or cleaning...It is almost impossible to believe that spices like Rosemary, wild garlic, etc. are found in completely other worlds, and even use the same names that they use here...having an unlimited infinite possibility for creating an entirely new fantasy other world, to have the same food there than here, is just miopia, tunnelvision and/or a total lack of imagination... Slice of life stories are good, if the people being described, the world being described are innovative, interesting, entertaining, etc...but if the main character is a forest elf that had never been out of her village, her vision, her abilities, skills and stories are extremely limited and mundane... The illustrations seem to be of high quality, although there are no maps in the inside, no character summaries, food recipes, things that could make this story a whole lot better, more interesting, more multimedia... I do not think I will continue to read this Light novel series, I do not recommend it...
The plot of the story is not heavy, it's light and cozy. The interaction between character is funny and mell is very cute & savage! Perfect book to kill your time if you are someone who is not looking for heavy and full of action story
