Finally, my first Shirleen Davies story! I loved THE COWBOY’S ROAD HOME so much that I’m going to binge read the rest of the series this month! All nine of them! Wyatt and Daisy both have father issues. His is overbearing and mean. Daisy’s father abandoned her and her mother when she was a baby. Wyatt’s father sent him to live with his uncle and work on his ranch while in college, ending his relationship with Daisy. Its been eight years and she is still in love with him. Will they find a way to be together with his father insisting he have nothing to do with her? THE COWBOY’S ROAD HOME is so heart tugging, the reader will be shocked how quickly they finish it.

THE COWBOY’S ROAD HOME is a very emotional and heartwarming story. Wyatt realizes his feelings for Daisy are still very real. He knows Daisy has a wall built up around her heart, but then again, so has Wyatt. But he can’t seem to stop himself from wanting to be with her again. THE COWBOY’S ROAD HOME has them both trying to fight their feelings for eachother, but also letting go of their past. Daisy and Wyatt both have trust issues and watching them dance around each other is truly very funny at times. You can’t help but feel bad for both of them and all they are going through.

Shirleen Davies has quickly become one of my favorite authors. She made me feel so many different things while I was reading her heart tugging story. One minute I’m giggling and the next there is a huge lump in my throat. Wyatt is still attracted to Daisy when he returns to the ranch and feels a deep connection to her he has never felt before. He must win her confidence to help her be able to live free of her fears. All of the characters are flawed in different ways, but you will find yourself cheering for them throughout THE COWBOY’S RIDE HOME. I just wanted to reach in the pages and give them all hugs. The end of the story is filled with redemption, love and a renewed sense of hope, which rounds out this lovely story perfectly. I can’t wait to read more by this wonderful author.

Book 1 in a sweet new series from Shirleen Davies. Wyatt and Daisy had a previous short term relationship, he left for college and for 8 years they didn't see each other. Now he's home on his dad's ranch. Its nice to read a story that isn't filled with twists and turns and the reader can just sit back and enjoy the characters and the story that seems like real life. While Ms Davies is absolutely capable of writing books that keep the reader on edge, this series is going to be sweet and relaxing which in today's world, is what we need some days. There are several characters which are lurking ready to have their story told so it seems this will be a multiple book series.

Wyatt’s family owned a ranch in Wyoming, and Wyatt was expected to take over one day. I felt he was so lucky to spend the eight years with his aunt and uncle while he was in college and afterwards. His uncle was a kind man that got things accomplished with kindness while Wyatt’s father got things accomplished by intimidation. I was glad for Wyatt to see another way to work with people. Wyatt had broken up with Daisy before he left for college, but still thought about her. For some reason Wyatt’s father did not like Daisy and forbid him from seeing her. I was so glad Wyatt would not listen to his father. I enjoyed watching Daisy and Wyatt get to know each other again. I encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy and voluntarily wrote a review.

The is the first book in a new series by Shirleen Davies. Set in the small town of Brilliance Montana and on one of the nearby ranches. This book features Daisy and Wyatt who went out together before going to college eight years previously and are now back in town and drawn together, but will a secret from the past affect their future together. At it’s core are things that are familiar in Shirleen’s books, community, friendships and a love story. As the first in the series we are introduced to characters that will hopefully feature in future books and I look forward to more books in this series of sweet romances with well written characters and storyline.

Excellent present day cowboy, Wyatt, returns home after being gone for eight years. He sees his high school girlfriend, Daisy, and there’s a spark. There is mystery, Wyatt has difficulty getting along with his dad. There’s lots of family drama and suspense. The characters are realistic and you feel like you’re reading a book about real people. It’s a wonderful book. I received a complimentary copy of the book and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by Ms. Davies.

The subtitle of this book is “Clean as a Whistle Contemporary Western Romance.” There are many readers who refuse to read “clean” books. However, they have not read Shirleen Davies’s new book. As I was reading this book, I totally forgot that it was “clean” because of its complex plot and interesting realistic characters.

This book tells the story of the Bonner Family. Wyatt Bonner and his father disagree about almost everything. In order to keep peace, when Wyatt left for college to work on getting two degrees, his father sent him to work on his Uncle Emmet’s Dude ranch while he was attending college. Unfortunately, when he left, he abandoned the girl he had just started dating, Daisy Raines.

Wyatt had always thought of Daisy as an interesting girl who was so upbeat that he always left her feeling happy. But, he never took her serious, because he thought she was a flighty girl with no ambition. Plus, he knew he was leaving for college very soon.

Now, eight years later, Wyatt has graduated from college. He returns home to find out that his father is recovering from a heart attack. Because of that, he needs to take over his family’s horse breeding operation much earlier than expected. He had hoped to work alongside his father until he could learn about the running of the ranch.

When Wyatt runs into Daisy, he realizes that he still feels great after spending time with her. He learns that she is now a creative artist who owns a successful art store. She not only sells her own work there, but she also actively searches for the work of local artists to include in her inventory. Wyatt discovers that his feelings for Daisy are different than when he left.

Unfortunately, Wyatt’s father hates Daisy and refuses to allow him to date her. He realizes that he feels closer to her than he has ever felt about any other woman. Plus, Wyatt realizes that he has a lot of respect for her and her accomplishments. So he refuses to stop seeing her!

This is not your average love story. Wyatt only saw Daisy as a casual date before he left for college. On the other hand, Daisy has always loved him. Yet, for some unknown reason, his father cannot stand Daisy. He never speaks a nice word to her or about her. However Wyatt is a very is an independent man who refuses to allow his father to rule his life.

Readers do not find out what is actually going on until near the end of the book, although the author gives us some clues along the way. The relationships between Daisy, Wyatt, his father and his mother are interesting, captivating, and sometimes even frustrating.

I could not put this book down until the very end!

Wyatt Bonner has been gone from Whistle Rock Ranch for 8 years. He finished school and lived on his uncle's dude ranch during those years, but now it's time to go home and take over the family business. He's ready for the responsibility even if he's not sure he's ready to live with his father again. he loves his father dearly, but they don't always agree. His father is a bully, while Wyatt prefers his uncle's softer approach. His father believes his way and his opinion are the only one that matters. And that includes Wyatt's personal life. When Wyatt starts seeing Daisy Raines, his father strongly objects that she is not the right woman to be a rancher's wife. Daisy is a successful businesswoman with a quirky sense of fashion and the sweetest disposition ever, but his father dislikes her and makes no secret of it. Wyatt will have to decide what his future looks like. The one he wants or the one his father demands.

I didn't find myself enthralled with this story or its characters. I found it unusual how much time Wyatt spent away from the ranch. Every other book I've read about ranchers, they worked every waking hour except to eat. Time for romance had to be snuck in during a typical ranch story, but not this one. Wyatt went to town for lunch, helped Daisy clean up the store, and spent the night away during a major storm. I liked Wyatt and Daisy just fine, but I didn't feel like they had an epic love story. They went on a couple of dates, didn't see each other for 8 years, and then spent some time together. No sweet moments. No grand gestures. They were solid but nothing more. I didn't think it was believable that she was still in love with him from 2 HS dates and had no contact for nearly a decade. Sad, if true. The supporting cast was also fine if nothing special, aside from one. Wyatt's dad was one of my least favorite characters. He was no great villain, only a sad, mean man who overstepped. His children, his workers, and his wife meant less to him than his demands. His health crisis should have been his "Come to Jesus Moment" where he decided to be a supportive, caring man instead of a mini-dictator, but it wasn't. Instead, there was no real moment, only a change of mind. I guess he didn't want to spend the remainder of his days alone but it would have been nice for him to admit he was wrong, tell his wife he loved her, and that he appreciated his son. However, the biggest fault of this book was that it lacked any momentum. Nothing memorable happened. It will be easily forgotten.

Wyatt grew up on his family's ranch. As the oldest, he airways knew he would be the one to take over the ranch. His dad is a huge bully and always rode his sons hard and basically made life miserable for them and anyone else around him. Wyatt dated a lovely girl named Daisy. He thought he might love her but his dad pushed them apart. When Wyatt finished high school, his dad sent him to live with his aunt and uncle and to work on his uncle's dude ranch while Wyatt went to college. His uncle was the antithesis of his father and he enjoyed his time with his aunt and uncle. He stayed there through 8 years of college, rarely going home. One day, he is summoned to come home to the ranch.Wyatt doesn't know it but his dad has had a serious heart attack and was told that if he didn't stop working and reduce his stress, he would die. Wyatt finds all this out from his friend, who also works on the ranch.

Daisy went to school to be a vet. She is back in town now to work. She loved Wyatt and was very hurt when he left. When she runs into Wyatt, a lot of feelings are brought back for both of them. But there is a lot going on. Wyatt has plans for the ranch that his dad doesn't like and his dad still doesn't like Daisy, for reasons unknown.

I liked this book. I liked the way the characters worked through their problems although Wyatt did some really dumb things. It was nice to see the story and the why's and how's unfold.
This is a clean story but it isn't preachy.

A great introduction to a new series! Wyatt Bonner returns home after college and 8 years working his uncle's dude ranch. Soon after returning home, his father puts him in charge of the family ranch--but with a few strings attached. Daisy, the girl Wyatt left behind after high school graduation shows up at the ranch, and Wyatt is instantly drawn to her. She's now a beautiful businesswoman. Wyatt is still attracted to Daisy. Meanwhile, Daisy has never forgotten Wyatt and thinks about him often. The 2 begin dating, despite Wyatt's father's anger and constant arguments that Wyatt needs to date and marry someone "better". I found The Cowboy's Road Home an enjoyable read as Wyatt and Daisy "mature" from the teenagers they once were and their feelings grow stronger towards each other. I'm glad they both took a stand against Wyatt's father's tirades. While I loved Wyatt's sweet mother--who also finally takes a stand against her husband--I would have liked for Wyatt's father to apologize (maybe in a future story in this series?).
I look forward to reading more books in this new series--hopefully learning more about Virgil and Lily and several other characters we met in this book.
I received a complimentary ARC of this book and have voluntarily given my honest opinion in this review.

An excellent start to a new series with the Bonner Family in Brilliance, Wyoming. You will find this story a clean easy read with only some internal family stife mainly between the father and son. The father wants to rule everyones' life on the ranch clear down to who they marry. Just as his was all those years ago. He sent his oldest son, Wyatt away to Montana for eight years to get him away from a girl. Wyatt has returned to take over the ranch after his father's heart attack and poor health, only to realize he still has feelings for that same young woman, Daisy Raines. The father was still a domineering aggressor to everyone he dealt with on and off the ranch. Daisy had grown into a beautiful independent woman with her own business that was doing quite well. Also, she was still in love with Wyatt after all these years. She could only hope that Wyatt would notice her now that he was back in town. Notice her he did much to his father's chagrin. You will enjoy all the wonderful characters at the Whistle Rock Ranch. I received an advance readers copy for a voluntary honest review.

The Cowboy's Road Home is the first in the brand new, wonderful series by Shirleen Davies. This second chance romance has two hard working people who dated years ago before college but have never forgotten each other. Of course, there is “a fly in the ointment” as they say which keeps their love from being the balm that it should be. Parental interference which is not based on any true reason except for a parent who bullies and manipulates the people in his world.

I like how Wyatt has learned better techniques, now being a much overall better person than his father. I also like Daisy who has become a businesswoman in her own right not needing to depend on others. I did have some thoughts about Wyatt’s mother who needed to step up in her marriage. Such a sad way to live a life under someone’s thumb. However, I do like a book that makes me feel for the characters and take sides as this one did.

Cowboys of Whistle Rock Ranch is off to a great start with The Cowboy's Road Home. Start reading today.

The publisher/author gave me a complimentary ARC of the book which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

This is a wonderful start to a new series. I adored all of the characters, main and secondary. This book was written in a multiple POV format. Getting that glimpse into the character's thoughts really help me to fully understand and connect with them. It is also very helpful that the couple of the next book had their POV also. I SO look forward to that one. Virgil is such a man and clueless as to how his actions affect Lily, his girlfriend from 8 years ago.

As to this book, Wyatt Bonner comes home. He had been sent away by his father to work at his uncle's ranch/dude ranch. In coming home, Wyatt reconnects with Daisy Raines. Daisy and Wyatt went out a few times in high school. Wyatt was also a "clueless male" with his interactions with Daisy.

It was a thoroughly enjoying read. Seeing these two characters navigate their way through some hurdles from their past and familial interference, was a nice way to spend a few hours with some enjoyable reading.

This is a sweet romance with just some kissing scenes. I would highly recommend this to anyone.

(4.5) What a palate cleanser! Life, strength, determination, integrity are in both Wyatt Bonner and Daisy Raine's. This is a clean, contemporary romance that shows you life on a ranch as well as family dynamics. Families have issues (in this case there was a surprising twist that came out) and love with honesty can surmount many of them. I wanted to pop Wyatt's dad and I was wondering about the mom. So much understood when the twist came out. Although I still wanted to pop his dad, ha. I am so looking forward to watching the changes I see forthcoming on the ranch, the laughter Daisy brings into Wyatt's life and getting to know the rest of the family and Virgil as the series continue. This can be read by young adults also. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves cowboys, clean romance, and wants something to cleanse the palate from the ugliness in the world. Thank you for the arc! I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions.

Excellent start to a new series! Wyatt Bonner has spent the last eight years of his life earning two college degrees and all of the ins and outs of running his uncle's dude ranch. Upon his return home to Whistle Rock Ranch, he discovers that the old adage hold true - the more things change, the more things remain the same. Two of those same things are his continued attraction to high school sweetheart Daisy Raines, and his stubborn father's inexplicable stance against any relationship between the two. Family secrets from the distant past and present seem to present insurmountable obstacles to any real relationship between the pair, but will true love conquer all?

This is a sweet heat contemporary Western Cowboy romance set in Wyoming. This book is the first of the series and the author does a great job in setting the foundation for future stories while telling this one well. I look forward to the continuation of the series!

A wonderful start to the Cowboys of Whistle Rock Ranch with The Cowboy's Road Home that has Wyatt Bonner returning home after being away for eight years getting two college degrees and helping his uncle run his dude ranch in Bozeman, Montana. I knew as soon as I started reading that I would not be able to put this book down until I read the last word with characters you feel like you know and could be their friend and a clean and wholesome contemporary cowboy western romance. I loved the undeniable attraction and chemistry between Wyatt and Daisy Raines who is a successful businesswoman in Brilliance, Wyoming. I am always thrilled to read anything by Shirleen Davies because I know I will be totally immersed in all that is happening from beginning to end and I always feel good after reading one of her books. I received an advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review.

A very good beginning with a story that holds its own. The H is educated, experienced, and strong but firmly under the influence of his less than honorable father. The h is strong, intelligent and loving. These two may have developed a relationship years earlier but their age and inexperience were against it; today it is the H's father who is the obstruction.

I felt for the H's mother and cannot imagine a more 'vanilla' relationship than entering into a marriage knowing that the husband is in love with another woman and that you are second best/choice. Her moment of confrontation with her husband coincides with the H's decision to pursue the h....who is the daughter of the H's father's lost love. The fathers in this story were not good male role models nor good fathers. What ever happened to the concept of loving your children unconditionally?

The H finally started acting like the man he should be at 26+ and leading his own life.

A second chance

Wyatt and Daisy both have father issues. His is overbearing and dictatorial hers abandoned her and her mother when she was a baby. Wyatt's father sent him to live with his uncle and work on his ranch while in collage severing his relationship with Daisy. Its been eight years and she is still in love with him. Will they find a way to be together with his father insisting he have nothing to do with her?

Having to go against his father is difficult but his demands go too far. He bears lots of responsibility with the ranch but he is drawn to Daisy and refuses to stay away. The handled things in a very adult way taking their time to become reacquainted. I enjoyed the story. There were few surprises. I felt bad about Daisy being alone after her mother remarried but she had a successful business in town and was friends with a lot of people.I'm going to read the next in this series.

Can being away for eight years bring two people back together?

Wyatt Bonner was gone for eight years between going to college and working at his Uncles dude ranch.
He comes back home to work for his father, Anson, and his mother, Margie. His father had a heart attack and wasn't told.
Wyatt bumped into Daisy. He realized he still had feelings for her. They had gone out for a short time while they were in high school. He broke up with her just before leaving for college.
Little did he know that she had always loved Wyatt. His mother also knew about her feelings for Wyatt.
His father didn't want Wyatt anywhere near Daisy. He had a secret that he never told Wyatt. So he determined to break them up.
Wyatt and Daisy had strong feelings for each other and wanted to make it work.
Two great people who don't have a clue what secrets have been kept from them. But when they find out, nothing can keep them apart.
Great story of love by Shirleen Davies

I wouldn't consider this a second chance romance as Wyatt and Daisy barely dated before he left for college and he even thinks of her as someone he wouldn't be interested when they meet again. But his father never wanted him to see her romantically and other than her lack of ranching experience Wyatt doesn't understand why. They have their share of ups and downs and Daisy wonders if they will ever be more than dating with his stubborn difficult father. I wanted to cheer when Margie told Anson she has options and would leave if he didn't change his ways. Wyatt kept saying repeatedly that he wasn't anyway near ready for marriage, but something happened that maybe made him think about how life can change in an instant. I loved that Daisy was so artistic and supported local artists. I liked Wyatt's ideas for expanding his family ranch as it's something I've always wanted to experience.

Such a great start to this new series centering around the Bonner family, their ranch hands, and Whistle Rock Ranch. The relationship between the patriarch, Anson, and his oldest son, Wyatt, is complicated. Anson has exerted a high level of control over Wyatt, but things come to a head when Wyatt returns home and starts dating Daisy. For some reason, Anson is totally against it. But Wyatt is his own man and determined to forge his own path for the future. What is somewhat surprising is who turns out be an ally for him and a somewhat common knowledge secret that comes to light. We also get introduced to Virgil and Lily who will get their story told in the next book and I look forward to reading it also.

It’s exciting to read the first book of the new contemporary series, Cowboys of Whistle Rock Ranch. After graduating from college while working on his uncle’s ranch in Montana, Wyatt Bonner returns to his home in Wyoming. Not only are his parents and friends there, also the gal he left behind. Daisy Raines is an artist, has opened her own business, and, has never forgotten her high school love. This book is about possible second chances and those that don’t believe in taking a chance. Daisy grabbed my heart as the gal who wears wild clothing, makes incredible jewelry and can bring paintings to life. Thanks to the author for this wonderful story-line and giving me such a feel-good book.

Wyatt left Whistle Rock Ranch eight years ago. He was Daisy's first and only love but he left without a backward glance and didn't keep in contact with her at all.
Now he's back butting heads with his father. He's asked to take over the ranch because his father is no longer young.
He asks Daisy on a date and things progress but Anson, Wyatt's father, becomes apoplectic when he finds out, and gives him an ultimatum.
Will Wyatt bow to his father? What's behind Anson's dislike of Daisy?

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book

A great read from Shirleen, looking forward to the next in the series.

This is book 1 of a new series of books featuring Wyatt and Daisy.
At its heart it is a second chance romance with the main characters not seeing each other for a long period of time. They have both moved on or so they think!!!
However not everyone is happy to see the couple rekindle their romance.
Shirleen Davies book are full of wonderful characters, and this book is the same. Her style of writing always delivers true believable love, well thought out plot line, beautiful setting and are a pleasure to read.
Well done on the start of something new.

Wyatt was sent to live with his uncle to work his Dude Ranch while attending college. He stayed with his uncle and aunt for a few years after graduating to learn how to run the business. While his uncle ruled with kindness his father was the opposite and ruled by fear. Wyatt and Daisy reunite when he moved back home. Wyatt's father disapproved of his relationship with Daisy. The twist in the story is the reason Anson dislikes Daisy. There are other issues throughout the book which add to the page turner. Truly enjoyed the book and greatly appreciated the ARC.

A great start to a new series about the Cowboys of Whistle Rock Ranch. Wyatt Bonner had dated Daisy before leaving Whistle Rock to live at his uncle’s dude ranch in Montana so he could work there as well as attend college. He has now returned home eight years later to find that Daisy, the girl he left behind has grown up and is a successful businesswoman. For some reason though, his father still is demanding he have nothing to do with her. I will warn you that it is hard to put this book down as it is so good.

Wyatt is going home after being away at college and working on his uncle's dude ranch.

He is happy to be going back because he has missed his family and friends. Then he sees Daisy and realizes that he has missed her too.

Daisy has always been in love with Wyatt but she feels like he doesn't know she exists.

But then things from the past come to surface and Wyatt is afraid that he will never be able to have a relationship with Daisy as long as his father is alive.

Will Wyatt go against his father or will he reach for the happiness that has eluded him for so long?

Pleasant

This was a nice read, but there were a few instances of point of view switching that lacked transition. I feel like a major plot point regarding the father's decisions was dropped, I wanted to see resolution with him instead of sudden capitulation. It seemed out of character after exhibiting such strong emotion throughout the story.

There were a few other instances where the text slipped last proofreading, but not enough to keep me from recommending this for an effect of reading.

Father thinks he knows best

Anson, dictatorial father to Wyatt, broke up the high school romance between Daisy and Wyatt. Wyatt left for eight years to go to college and help his uncle run his dude ranch. Returning home, he found his father still a controlling bully--and his feelings for Daisy unchanged. Daisy and Wyatt were great characters, lacking confidence that their relationship could evolve beyond friendship. The ending was a bit abrupt, but the book was a good read.
