This book doesn't deliver on the promise it title makes. The book actually spends very little time on ancestral healing. Most of it is a superficial treatment of a smattering of related topics such as: near death experience; animal guides; mediumship; automatic writing; quantum physics and the like. Disappointing.

This book may be an eye opener for the Western World but in Hindu Culture it's very ancient phenomenon.
During Pitru Paksha Shradh, preceding the autumnal Navratras, when ancestors are worshipped, and prayers offered for the repose of their souls. The ritual is considered even more important than the worship of God, because a person owes his physical birth to his lineage. When Lord Ram observed the Shradh for his illustrious ancestors, one sadhu ate so much that the Lord’s three brothers got tired of feeding him. They sought Ram’s help, who said that he would serve the sadhu himself. While doing so he recognized him as Lord Shiva. The god smiled and vanished.
During the Shradh, it is believed that ancestors appear in dreams, to warn of impending dangers in the coming year. Each day of the Shradh is equal to a year, and so the multiplication goes on to include all ancestors for 15 generations and beyond. Ancestor worship starts with the father and mother, and includes grandfather, grandmother, great-grandfather. and great-grandmother back to as many generations as one can remember, with reverence paid to both paternal and maternal ancestors.

This book is probably not for everyone as it deals with past lives, karma, contacting ancestors and spirit guides, and what happens after death. I like those things, so I really enjoyed it, and recommend it to anyone who thinks these are interesting topics. I listened to it on audiobook and then bought the hard copy so that I can do the ancestral healing exercises on my own time.

Weird mishmash of spirituality/meditations from a bunch of different cultures, as told by a White guy. Not actually about the concept of karma? Full of personal anecdotes I found deeply uninteresting. Wish I knew this was a workbook before buying, not my thing, also totally stupid

Eh. It was interesting, but not exciting. I liked the short, concise chapters which made it easy to read and digest. The author writes clearly with relevant examples. It just didn't feel like most of the ideas would be really transformative. Now, for the record, I have done some of this kind of work in other ways, so I could just be biased toward the practices I have tried. Overall, this would probably be a decent place to start if you have never thought about connecting with your ancestors. It is heavy on shamanism and has some tangents here and there in directions that don't feel directly related (at least to me). The end of the book really drops off as the author suggests taking magic mushrooms as a way to meet one of your "old one" ancestors. This seems to be the route the author took to forge a lifelong connection with a guide, but it feels a little reckless to recommend it in a book.

This book has covered the cultural views regarding ancestral healing and mostly urges to reconnect with our ancestry. I have found the classification of ancestors to be quite informative which also includes the guidelines for healing ancestral karma. As an ancestral healer, I found it extremely helping and validating personally. I could relate to the journey and loved every bit of the book.

What I did like about the book is the stories and explanation. I did not like about the ancestors, that went a bit to far as to me/I was trying to clear up their issues. Or at least that is what I understood. I could think about my mom, grandma rather it be maternal or paternal but not try to clear up pass ancestors. The exercises repeated to on how to.

Enjoyed the subject matter very much. The narratives in a very few cases became a little deep for me to understand fully. The examination gives weight to the argument for embedded and/or inherited trauma. Recommended for all those who seek greater understanding, and those who cultivate empathy.

Lots of good material to reflect on. Lots of how-to ritual instruction and exercise material that I don't need and thus had to bypass.

At the beginning it has to be said that this book is really for someone who believes in ancestral magic and the continuation of the soul. Although there are one or two chapters in this book – and some stories and testimonials – that try to convince skeptics, you should have an interest in the subject if you pick up this book.

Steven Farmer reports on his own experiences from his private life and his shamanistic work, as well as stories he has received from others.
The importance of working with the ancestors is not as much in the foreground as I would have liked. I rather had the impression that it is more about one's own development with the help of the ancestors, which should then also be enough for them to heal.

Unfortunately, the book does not really go into depth. On the other hand, the chapters are short and thus well suited for reading it piece by piece. It is certainly not a cover-to-cover read.
The writing style is informal and friendly. So you quickly find your way in and are not disturbed or interrupted in the reading flow.

The book is suitable for those who want a rough overview. Topics include, but are not limited to:
💌 Near-death experiences
💌 Family trauma
💌 Animal guides
💌 Shamanism
💌 Quantum physics
In addition, the book offers some tangible exercises you can do to heal yourself, contact your ancestors, meditatively forgive yourself and others, and more.

Steve Farmer has deep wisdom to impart. I was always to sensitive, to easily hurt by criticism from my elders. Farmer has taught me to understand these ancestral patterns and put any criticism into context. For this wisdom, I will always be grateful to him.

I highly recommend this- and all Farmers books and cards- if you want a greater understanding of yourself, your ancestors, and life in general. You’ll learn to be a winner, not a victim.
