An Alien for Christmas

Rate this book
After a date gone horribly wrong, Seth Evans needs to take some time away from work and home to recover. He finds a housesitting ad posted by a man who lives outside the Mojave Desert that will keep him away through New Year’s Eve. There will be nothing to distract him from focusing on getting better and no one around to bother him for miles. This is precisely what he needs.

Khel Ryhax is a botanist aboard the research ship Phoenix, which has been alerted to a newly formed wormhole. He has been tasked to find the nearest life-supporting planet on the other side and conduct a survey of its flora. In transit, his shuttle is damaged, and he is ejected into the Milky Way. Known to the three main interstellar unions and with a bad reputation among all of them, Khel is apprehensive about going to Earth. With no choice but to land there, completing his mission and repairing the shuttle seems like an impossible and perilous task.

Two men from opposite ends of the universe come to the same place in search of what they need and find all they ever wanted.

Unexpected

When I started this, despite the trigger warnings, I expected this to mostly be a cute sci-fi romance and it sometimes is, but I guess I should have taken the warnings more seriously or something. It’s fine with me if characters have had bad experiences in the past but I don’t like it when I feel like a character has been constantly tortured. Seth has had pretty much every bad thing that could possibly happen to someone happen to him and it’s pretty much constantly brought up throughout the book. Too much.

Another point I wanted to make was about the Bruce character. I liked him but the way he and Seth interacted after Bruce finds out he now has an alien fiancé was….. odd. And I was hoping to see Bruce again in space, maybe hooking up with the captain only to be disappointed. Then when Khel’s old friend/fling comes to visit…Let’s just say I extremely disliked the cavalier way Seth treated even the possibility of either of them being intimate with someone else.

This book was a mixed bag for me. It had tons of potential and some sweet and/or sexy scenes but there were definitely things that I didn’t like about it.

Brought much Joy to an old “f*g h*g”

I got this in my list of Christmas stories by just doing it with aliens. I didn’t realize it was MM unto I had all ready got in KU. I read the blurb and tease, then dived in to reading it in 24hours. It is a heart wrenching ride from lows to highs and back again. The sex scenes were enough for me, but some will complain there is not one every other chapter. What got to me most were the intimate scenes that did not lead to sex. I hope some FM writers can take a read and change their views. I do hope Matt keeps writing. I would love for Bruce and Tom to truly be together. Maybe a flashback kind of thing. Please read this enjoyable tale!

A Most Excellent Surprise

This book is an excellent blending of sci-fi and MM romance, definitely a narrow genre and one which I think is underserved. The beginning is a bit rough, with enough detail to almost put me off the story. Push on through if it also bothers you, because the storyline does improve and life gets better. The rest of the plot was better, and the situations and issues developed well with no disasters or terminal conflict. The book ends promising a future HEA.

You know, this actually had a lot more substance than I was expecting. Yes, the scifi was hand-wavey at best, and there is a LOT of trauma dumping in the first few chapters (seriously, pay attention to the CW), but this was actually a cute little m/m romance with quite high stakes. The characters are so darn likeable, I was rooting for them the whole time and just couldn't put this down.

❤️❤️❤️

I loved it ! The characters are well made, the love story is super cute (no instalove). It's a really heartwarming book. Though some topics were heavy (reference to r*pe and assault), it really helped to flesh out the characters.

Great read!

Great read. Very few spelling or dramatic errors. Detailed descriptions and dialogue that moved the story along with clear images of events taking place and clear impressions of action unfoldIng.

Thoroughly enjoyed!

I thoroughly enjoyed this storyline, my only disappointment was at the end. There was no mention of what happened with Bruce. Did he get to go off world?
