Nothing will keep her from settling in the Oregon Territory. When Hope Waters gets the chance to move west to Oregon, she doesn’t hesitate. Her husband and all six of her grown children (plus their spouses) dive headfirst into the adventure, all eager to start a new life on the West Coast. It finally feels like the final pieces of a happy life are coming together for her family. She has worked so long for this moment and nothing will get in her way. But Hope has a secret.
That secret is eating away at her. That secret could ruin her family, and break their hearts. That secret could change everything, including her chance for a new life in Oregon. Her sons are hard-working and her daughters are brave. And all Hope wants is to find the home that has eluded her for so long. Can she make it all the way to the Oregon Territory and the final home she is looking for without hurting everyone around her?
This is the story of one family which included husband, wife, their 14 year old daughter and their grown and married children and their spouses and children travel to Oregon via wagon train. It is a story of drama, family dynamics, strife, secrets, and hurts. Will they survive the trip, will the hurts and family dynamics split the family and cause irreparable damage? Be sure and read this outstanding story to find out; I know you will enjoy it as much as I did. I look forward to the next book in the series.
Hardship on the Trail This is book 7 in a series about traveling the Oregon Trail. Every book sees the exhausting trip from the view of different families. There is also a spin-off series about these same families making their homes in Oregon. In this episode, we see the travel from the viewpoint of an ill woman, her husband, teenage daughter, five adult sons including two with wives. The family dynamic changes as they progress down the trail. I would have liked the ending to be fleshed out more. I hope that this is one of the families featured in the next series.
The Waters family pulls up stakes in New York and heads to the new territory of Oregon. The matriarch of the family has a life threatening illness, she doesn't tell her family. When the secret becomes known, her children refuse to speak to her. The trail is hard enough but losing your children's trust is worse.
Another adventurous story of the courage and determination it takes to make it to the new life promised in Oregon. Hope convince s her whole family to go with her. She hides the fact that she is sick which causes unforseen friction in the family. Come along and see how it all works out.
Not too sure about the linguistic integrity of this one - I seriously doubt phrases like "bonus daughter" were in use on the Oregon trail. The main character is as selfish as they come, and the chapters are somewhat repetitive with the main theme of, "oh, she still didn't tell her family, her husband is mad."
She apparently got tuberculosis after a bout with pneumonia even before they left the East. Of course we know about death on the Oregon trail. Drowning, wagon crush, falls, measles, Mountain fever all took lives along the way. But as this one wraps up, the entire Waters clan arrives safely.
Well written kinda sad. A big family travels westward to Oregon. Family strife, secrets and the rigors of the westward journey lead to a good story. Recommended read.
This was the best of all the stories in this series. I have enjoyed them all but Frank is the ideal husband. I just loved his caring ways for Hope. Just beautiful. Thanks for such an amazing story.
This is the tale of this families hard trip over the Oregon Trail to Oregon Territory. Their trial and tribulations, Indian attack and undying love are all parts of this trip. You will greatly enjoy this story.
I found the main character and her story line a tad irritating, especially towards the end, the reactions of the various members of her family to her revelation that she had consumption did not ring true.

I think Hope was just being trying to keep her family safe. I do think she should have told her family. She kept telling them there's no secrets. She was keeping a huge secret from them.
She had a dream and a secret. Her family decided to stay together and go west. Through hardships and fears they struggled on her secret tore them apart and caused friction yet they were family sticking together.
I'm exhausted just reading this. A heartbreaking story and so much love, lots of family drama. I had tears in my eyes a few times while reading this. None of us are perfect, though she did test my patience with her stubbornness.
The book sort of had a slow moving start and it was slow going through but good at the same time. Just as it was getting really good it was about to end and the ending sucked. It could’ve ended differently. It leaves you hanging.
The book definitely kept my interest, but I tired of the constant focus and rehashing of the mother's illness throughout the book. Also, the ending was disappointing.
