Lui Beth nu-i convine deloc faptul c-a trebuit să se mute în Dublin. Îi este dor de fosta casă, din Londra, și de amicii de acolo, iar noul oraș și noua școală îi par străine și neprietenoase.

Când în casa și în viața ei își face apariția un băiat misterios, care pare rupt din anii '50, lucrurile devin și mai stranii, iar Beth este atrasă într-o aventură palpitantă și surprinzătoare.

Beth este nefericită: la școală e luată peste picior de o gașcă de fete răutăcioase, acasă o așteaptă o mamă cam absentă și un frate mai mic despre care toată lumea spune că e genial, iar ea se simte singură și nebăgată în seamă. Colac peste pupăză, cineva îi tot dă lucrurile peste cap prin cameră!

La început, Beth dă vina pe fratele ei mai mic, Cormac, dar curând află că Robbie, un băiat din anii 1950, călătorește în timp, ajungând în 2019, chiar în camera ei. Lucrurile iau o turnură neașteptată și extrem de palpitantă, iar familiile celor doi copii sunt prinse într-un vârtej de aventuri captivante.

Beth vizitează Dublinul anilor 1950, iar Robbie este uluit de viața copiilor din ziua de azi. Și pentru că fiecare dintre ei are nevoie de un amic, cei doi descoperă că timpul nu este o piedică în calea prieteniei. Cu ajutorul lui Robbie, Beth își rezolvă problemele legate de colegele nesuferite, iar băiatul află de la ea motivul pentru care are probleme la școală: este dislexic.

Oare le vor fi suficiente prietenia, curajul și creativitatea pentru a trece cu bine prin toate peripețiile aduse de o călătorie... în timp?

I loved this book and could really relate to Beth’s character. The time-travelling plot is very compelling and skillfully crafted. Megan is a fantastic storyteller and this book will make you laugh, cry but above all, feel enriched for having read it.

Two children, living in the same house but decades apart, meeting up via a crack in the wall? Just brilliant!!! This book opens up a window to the past and gives a glimpse of the possibility of its' impact on the present day. The characterisation is marvelous. With shy, quiet Beth juxtaposed against bold, brash Robbie, both have grow and become a little more like each other in order to manage this mad situation and find solutions. But the real star of this show is the story-telling! The reader is immediately drawn into the tale with its' fast-paced plot and unique perspective.. Not only does it display the effect of changes of the last few decades, but it causes so many questions; so many 'what ifs' that challenge the reader throughout. And just when you think its all over, a brilliant twist of fate and family crashes in to offer an ending that will live long in the imagination and heart. Entertaining, insightful, full of understanding and just plain fun.

dios. mío. PERO QUÉ HISTORIA TAN PRECIOSA. no pensaba ponerle 5 estrellas, pensaba ponerle 4 y algo, pero es imposible que no le ponga la nota máxima a un libro que ha hecho encogerse y expandirse mi corazón tantísimas veces. y lo digo literalmente. ME DOLÍA EL CORAZÓN DE VERDAD. esta es una historia tan bonita, tan tierna, tan heart warming, con momentos tan tristes (RON ME HACÍA SUFRIR MUCHÍSIMO Y NO ME HE QUEDADO TRANQUILA HASTA EL FINAL), personajes tan absolutamente maravillosos (quiero adoptar a Beth y a Robbie, pero es que todos a su manera eran increíbles!!), una trama TAN interesante (que actually fue lo que me impulsó a querer leer el libro, porque me parecía super interesante) y un final tan agridulce pero tan bonito a la vez, que... simplemente 🥺🥺🥺. es que no hay más 💔

Beth has just moved to Dublin with her family. She is being bullied at school and mysterious things are happening at her new house, specifically someone keeps going into her room and destroying her stuff.

Then one day Beth finds a boy in her bedroom. He is different from anyone she has ever known. She soon discovers that he is from the past, almost 60years in the past.

This boy is also having difficulties at his school and with his family. The pair soon become friends and the story explores how friendship can thrive even if it is in different time frames.

Wow, this was a brilliant read aloud for our bedtime story. Children 9 and 7 at the time loved the characters and did well keeping up with the author's ability to take us through different spaces in time.

Time travel book set in Dublin. Children and mother from 1950 end up in present day. Fun exploration of new inventions and society changes. Lovely read.

I'm not sure if it's because I listened to the audiobook, but this book didn't pull me in that much. I loved the premise, and I was onboard with it, I just was a bit put off by the implications of their time travel not making a ton of sense.
