She works as a freelance Digital Media Producer for clients such as the National Theatre, and Harry Potter West End, and previously worked as a Senior Digital Producer at the National Theatre, the Royal Opera House and Shakespeare’s Globe. A damned fine ending to the trilogy which felt so Star Wars-like in structure (with the second being the darkest and best for me). Leonard ties everything up so satisfactorily in this final instalment and I'll say again what I said in my first review of Beetle Boy - this deserves to be on the screen. I don't want to give the plot away but I will say something about the author's passion for the natural world. I think if more children read these kinds of books then more of them would care for and see the great potential and enjoyment that they can get from exploring the outside - something that is missing from their lives more than ever.
On a final note, the challenging questions the author puts to us with regards to Lucretia Cutter's plans for the state of the world offer a fascinating point of discussion - one that I would love to have with my own class.

In this third and final installment, humanity itself is under siege and the future of mankind rests in the hands (and legs!) of three brave young heroes and a battalion of beetles. Thrilling action sequences have been a signature of this fantastic series and this book has more than its fair share of them with the action this time around taking place in a top-secret biome hidden deep within the Amazon rainforest. There’s some great humour from the cringe-worthy Humphrey and Pickering (yes, they're back!), along with moral dilemmas, lashings of adventure, great friendships and a strong environmental theme.

It's been an absolute hoot trotting the globe with Darkus and his friends but, by far and away, the real stars of this series have been the beetles. Along the way, I've absorbed a vast amount of information on this resilient species and developed a greater appreciation and understanding of the huge part they play in sustaining the earth's ecosystems. Thank you, MG Leonard for this truly wonderful, eye-opening series.

جلد سوم این کتاب هم تموم شد. سه‌گانه جالبی بود.
با خوندن این کتاب، نظرتون نسبت به حشرات و سوسک‌ها عوض میشه. چون توی این داستان، سوسک‌ها قهرمان هستن😊
خود نویسنده هم تقریبا ۳۰ سال با ترس از این حشرات زندگی می‌کرده ولی در نهایت یاد گرفته که اونارو دوست داشته باشه.
اگه بخوام خلاصه‌ای از داستان این جلد رو بدون اسپویل بگم، کاتریشیا لوتر به مخفیگاه خودش رفته و در حال آزاد کردن آفت‌هایی به سراسر دنیاست تا انسان‌ها رو به زانو دربیاره.
دارکوس به کمک دوستان و همراهانش، این مخفیگاه رو پیدا میکنن و نبرد طاقت‌فرسایی بین انسان‌ها و حشرات درمیگیره.
اگه میخواین بدونین در نهایت کی پیروز میشه، پیشنهاد میکنم این جلد رو از دست ندین‌.

Simply Wonderful!

A fantastic end to a trilogy that has a little bit of everything!

We are spoilt with an array of fantastic characters; an excellent villain and henchmen; an inspiring hero and accomplices and a game changing cast of weird but wonderful beetles. I was certainly rooting for Darkus and Baxter from the get-go.

A trilogy of books that I will be recommending to any and every child at school. A must have in any KS2 Library!

I have loved every single moment of this imaginative, heart felt, thrilling trilogy, and while I am sad that my journey with Darkus, his friends and the beetles is at an end, I know that their courage, determination, and unwavering friendship will spur them on to great things in their adventures to come.

As for Novak - who captured my heart in Beetle Boy, and built a home in it in Beetle Queen - well, you’ll just have to read it for yourself…

A disappointing third book. It seems like it's trying to be a big budget action movie rather than a book.

Notably missing is the kind of character writing that was good in the first book especially. Meeting and getting to know the cast was much more interesting than how they interact here. Too often their dialogue has been sadly reduced to the level of 'Look out! Quick! Go Go Go!' Everything else they talk about is less memorable than that.

I don't remember main character, Darkus, being as empty in the previous books as he is here. At one point in this one, he looks foolish for thinking a convention of entomologists would be an army of green berets he could lead in an assault on the villain's headquarters, and instead of moving on to let him keep some dignity, the book comes back and picks over it later.

However, my ten year old son enjoyed it. And it gave him an opportunity to learn what dramatic irony in storytelling is, so there's that.

Definitely not my cup of tea. In all fairness this was unfortunately the only book in the series i could get hold of, so perhaps i haven't given it a fair shot. I can totally appreciate why people would love this book, the sense of adventure and fantasy but it wasn't for me. I struggled to get into it, again perhaps due to it being the third in the series, but i felt it was almost rushed? However, i am definitely going to have a go at the first book, Beetle Boy, to see if i can be swayed.

I've absolutely loved the Beetle Boy trilogy and this final instalment did not disappoint. I'm going to miss Darius, Virginia, Bertolt, Novak and gang. I'm even going to miss Lucretia Cutter - an immense character and one of the best villains around. Scheduled for a reread in 2022 when my 3yo is ready. 4 years to get him bonkers about beetles!

MEINE MEINUNG:
Das große Krabbeln geht weiter! Können Bertolt, Virginia und Darkus die fiese Lucretia aufhalten?

Nach dem fiesen Cliffhanger aus Band 2 geht es in Käferkrawall erst einmal recht ruhig daher. Die drei Kinder und Onkel Max planen nämlich in allen Einzelheiten, wie sie Darkus’ Dad retten und Lucretia das Handwerk legen können. Doch das ist gar nicht so einfach. Erst einmal muss das geheime Versteck der Käfer-Queen aufgespürt und beobachtet werden und dann sind da ja noch die ganzen Käfer, die kurz davor sind die Weltherrschaft an sich zu reißen… Doch das wohl größte Problem ist, dass ihnen keiner glaubt. Lucretia hat es erfolgreich geschafft, sich als Bösewicht aus der Affäre zu ziehen und die Kinder müssen nun mehr denn je auf die Hilfe der Basislagerkäfer bauen.

Käferkrawall ist leider schon der letzte Band dieser unheimlich gelungenen Buchreihe. Die Käferchen sind mir sehr ans Herz gewachsen und ich habe dieses letzte Buch in vollen Zügen genossen. Nach dem eher ruhigen Start in die Geschichte geht es doch action- und vor allem temporeich daher. Lucretia das Handwerk zu legen ist gar nicht so leicht und so scheint der finale Teil sogar ein wenig brutaler als seine Vorgänger. Nicht nur Lucretia, auch die drei Retter und Onkel Max müssen sich darüber im Klaren sein, gegebenenfalls auch handgreiflich zu werden. Schließlich schrecken die manipulierten Käfer der Käfer-Queen auch vor nichts zurück. Das spannende Szenario spielt sich vor einem wunderschönen Setting ab. Tief im Dschungel verborgen befindet sich nämlich das Geheimquartier und das ist eine echte Wucht. Lucretia hat echt alles gegeben und fährt mit Laboren und Zuchtstationen auf, wie sie noch niemand gesehen hat. Mir hat der Ideenreichtum der Autorin wieder unheimlich gut gefallen. Ich liebe ihre Kreativität und wenn ich mir das Geheimquartier bildlich vorstelle, dann wäre ich gerne selbst einmal dort gewesen. Die detaillierten Beschreibungen haben auch dazu geführt, dass ich mich vollkommen in die Geschichte integriert gefühlt habe. Und ich kann euch sagen: man war das spannend!

Nicht nur die Story an sich hat mich wieder vollkommen mitgerissen. Auch die Charaktere haben mich erneut fasziniert – und damit meine ich nicht nur die Käfer. Bertolt, Virginia und Darkus sind absolut klasse und lernen auch in diesem Buch wieder über sich hinauszuwachsen. Aber auch die Freundschaft, der Zusammenhalt und besonders das Vertrauen in seine Freunde steht sehr im Vordergrund und wird von der Autorin spielend leicht vermittelt. Die Geschichte an sich schreitet rasch voran und man kann das Buch eigentlich kaum aus der Hand legen, weil man so mittendrin und dabei ist, dass man Angst hat, etwas zu verpassen. Etwas düster und unheimlich ist es natürlich auch an der einen oder anderen Stelle und wäre das nicht so, dann hätte ich definitiv etwas vermisst. Der große Showdown konnte mich übrigens voll überzeugen und das ist etwas, was ich auch schon anders erlebt habe. Hier aber hat das große Finale vollends meinen Vorstellungen entsprochen und mich nahezu umgehauen. Ich möchte auch eigentlich gar nicht verraten was passiert oder wie die Geschichte ausgegangen ist, denn das solltet ihr schon selber lesen. Aber ich kann euch so viel verraten: ihr werdet definitiv nicht enttäuscht werden!

Käferkrawall hat alle meine Erwartungen erfüllt und die Buchreihe mit Action und Krawall zu einem würdigen Abschluss gebracht.

If you want to read these books, please give this review a miss until you have read books 1 & 2. It would be impossible to review book 3 without giving away some KEY parts of the previous separate adventures and their finales.

So, on that understanding, and as you are clearly all still here, let's get on with the review!

A quick recap:

What we discovered in book 2. Lucretia Cutter is seemingly intent on world domination. Having altered her gene sequence, so she is now part beetle, part human, she sets about revealing her plot at the Oscar award ceremony. Using her vast wealth and fashion empire, she has prepared gowns for the actresses nominated for the Best Actress Award, including her own cloned daughter, Novak.

As the awards are screened globally, she used them to reveal her ultimatum to the world and its leaders. The actresses gowns are made to incorporate thousands of beetles. At her command, they fly free and attack all the guests.

She has released and readied across the globe thousands more of her genetically modified beetles. Their task will be to decimate the crops and force countries to accept her will or die of starvation or in the wars she knows will follow.

Our heroes, Darkus, Virginia, Bertolt and their good beetles, help save the day at the Oscars. Darkus's father, Dr Cuttle, flees the scene with Lucretia and her henchmen and ninja-like bodyguard. Novak is forced to go too and faces a very uncertain future. As of course, so does the world!

The Plot:

Book 3 takes over a few days after our team have arrived home to the UK from America. Lucretia has escaped to her secret jungle biome laboratories, confident she cant be found and can weather anything the nations of the world throw at her and it. She is determined to proceed with her experiments to change herself entirely into a beetle. Before she does so, she is to test the final pupation stage on Novak.

Her goal, the goal she feels is hers to command and arrange, is to save the planet and the creatures on it. As for humans, well, they don't really figure in it. Unless it's to help Lucretia. After all, they are the cause of the planet's woes and the destruction of many of its species.

Darkus and the team take the offensive and mobilise to rescue Dr Cuttle, Novak and the biome beetles. Saving the world, too, if they can manage to find a way to stop genetically changed creatures and find their hideouts.

Now, if things weren't set to get dangerous enough, Humphrey and Pickering have managed to hide in Lucretia's helicopter and find themselves in the thick of a very unfriendly jungle. Things don't get much better for our two hapless nasty, yet amusing villains when they manage to get inside the biome.

As all the parties converge on the jungle hideaway, things do get really tense. Monsters await, as does a crazed and jealous scientist and an unwilling accomplice far from home. The final action-packed showdown becomes a race against the clock. Not all will come out alive; some will be forever changed – for better or worse remains to be seen.

So, what did we think?

Mrs H both sat on the sofa and leaned in closer as we turned the final pages. We were not at all disappointed with the action-packed end scene. It all fitted in together rather nicely.

I may have been necessarily brief with my summary above, but a lot goes on in a short space of time. I loved the books penultimate chapter. For me, that was really fun and sort of an unexpected happy conclusion.

Mrs H is always one for neatness and said the final chapter was what most humans will go for.

We agreed that there were some brilliant moral points made, and the arguments between characters were really well crafted. Mrs H says that's called cogent. I found myself at one point, seeing Lucretia's point. But on seeing the other arguments came round pretty quickly to the truth. MG Leonard does this really well. The book is also really well researched and geared to educate as well as entertain.

Is this another must-read? Yes. Undoubtedly it is.

It is also a worthy and wholly satisfying conclusion to the adventures. I suspect there is no call for another book in the series. But if there was, I, for one, would undoubtedly go out and buy it. But with so many other good books by this author, I will have Mrs H's time fully allocated for the next couple of years so we can catch up and do the reviews!

Darkus, Virginia und Berthold reisen mit ihrer kleinen Käferarmee zu Lucretia Cutters Versteck, um der Tyrannei endlich ein Ende zu setzen. Denn Lucretia hat ihrerseits Käfer ausgeschickt, die Ernten der Menschen zu vernichten. Darkus ist sich jedoch noch immer nicht sicher, ob sein Vater gemeinsame Sache mit Lucretia macht oder nur so tut, als ob er ein Befürworter ihrer Pläne ist, um sie in Sicherheit zu wiegen. Im Moment deutet alles auf das erstere hin.

Leider ist dies schon der letzte Teil der Käfer-Saga rund um Darkus und seinen Käfer Baxter. Die Krabbeltierchen, die zusammen mit den Kindern die Welt retten wollen, sind mir sehr ans Herz gewachsen.

Diesmal begeben wir uns in die heiße Endphase. Der Kampf ums Überleben steht im Vordergrund, doch will keiner so recht glauben, dass die angesehene Modedesignerin Lucretia Cutter die Drahtzieherin ist.
Und so vergeht viel Zeit, bis sich endlich etwas tut. Darkus und seine Freunde versuchen Hilfe zu bekommen, aber es ist ein großes Problem vorhanden: keiner glaubt ihm so richtig.
Nur wenige Helfer finden sich und deswegen machen sich die Freunde alleine auf den Weg um Lucretia aufzuhalten.

Das Setting ist sehr interessant, denn es verschlägt uns nach Ecuador. Der perfekte Ort, um die Weltherrschaft zu übernehmen. Das Amazonas-Gebiet ist das ultimative Versteckt. Denkt zumindest Lucretia.
Ich finde es toll, wie die Autorin Fakten über den Klimawandel, lehrreiches über Käfer und politische Entwicklungen in die Geschichte einfließen lässt, ohne das Langeweile aufkommt.

Wissenschaft meets Fantasy, eine gelungene Paarung, die jedoch auch Augen öffnen soll und dazu anregt, vielleicht doch einige Dinge zu ändern, bevor es zu spät ist. Die Botschaft, die die Autorin vermitteln will, muss viele erreichen. Ihr Weg ist jedoch nur ein kleiner Anfang. Die Moral der Geschichte ist den Großen der Welt gewidmet, denen, die meinen, dass mit Geld alles zu erreichen ist - auch das Ende der Welt.

Aber trotzdem steht hier dann doch der Spaß an der Geschichte im Mittelpunkt. Und den hatte ich in großem Maße. Die Freundschaft, die Darkus, Berthold und Virginia verbindet, ist beispielhaft. Sie können sich blind aufeinander verlassen und tun dies auch. Allen voran ist es Darkus, der mit seinen Ideen und seinem sechsten Sinn für Käfer die rettende Lösung parat hat. Die Umsetzung allerdings kann er nicht alleine vollbringen und ist deswegen auf seine Freunde angewiesen. Die krabbelnden sowie die menschlichen.

Manchmal fand ich aber auch, dass etwas zu viel des Glücks vorhanden war. Gerade wenn es darum ging, nach Ecuador zu gelangen. Hier wurde es den Freunden sehr einfach gemacht. Ein bisschen Widerstand hätte noch mehr Schwung in die Geschichte gebracht.

Der Schreibstil der Autorin ist flüssig zu lesen und man merkt deutlich, dass die Geschichte an Kinder gerichtet ist. Trotzdem ist der Spaßfaktor auch für Erwachsene sehr hoch, gerade weil eben sehr liebevoll die Details über die Käfer verpackt sind, die Kindern vielleicht gar nicht auffallen würden.

Ich jedenfalls bin sehr froh, dass ich diese Reihe gelesen habe, da sie einfach unvergleichlich ist. Wer hat schon Käfer an seiner Seite, die einfach alles für einen tun und denen man blind vertrauen kann? Darkus hat dies und damit ist er ein ganz besonderer Junge.

Fazit:
Ein spannendes Abenteuer mit vielen Informationen.

Mažieji ir didieji istorijos herojai tęsia savo planus gelbėti tai, kas gali būti sunaikinta negrįžtamai. Tai ne tik pažintinė literatūra vaikams apie įvairią augaliją ir gyvūniją, nepaliestus ir atrandamus kraštus, kaip, pavyzdžiui, Ekvadoras, Amerika, Kitas, Praha, Amazonės džiunglės. Bet ir problemines temas liečiantis kūrinys, tokius, kaip, aplinkosauga. Būtent pastaroji tema vainikuoja visą trilogijos istoriją.

„ – Kelių dar Didžiojo barjerinio rifo kilometrų praradimą galėsi pakelti? Kiek dar plastiko banginių skrandžiuose reikia surasti? Kiek kvadratinių kilometrų atogrąžų miško išmainysime į naftą? Tai turi liautis.“

Kiekviena istorija turi kelias medalio puses. Nuolatos esančiai mūsų suvokiamoje „blogio pusėje“ veikėjai pradėjau jausti gailestį (bei norą ją geriau suprasti). Ji tiki tuo, ką daro, kaip daugelis mūsų tiki tuo, ką daro ir kokiomis priemonėmis tai daro. Taip, jos veiksmai galimai prilygsta genocidui (ji smerkia žmoniją), bet nekreipiant dėmesio į šį faktą, kokio tikslo, kokio galutinio rezultato vedama ji tai daro. Jos bėda tame, kad manė galinti tai padaryti viena. Ir galinti tai padaryti tik vienu jai žinomu būdu, rinkdamasi kraštutinumą.

Paaugliai, kurie skaitys šį kūrinį, turės progą apsvarstyti aplinkosaugos klausimą įdomiais rakursais. Net neabejoju, kad jiems kils nemažai neaiškumų, todėl tėveliams rekomenduoju būti pasiruošusiems juos išaiškinti arba kartu ieškoti atsakymų. Istorijų drauge galite neskaityti, leisti tai vaikui padaryti pačiam, bet visada paklausti – ką manai? Ką naujo sužinojai? Kaip tu pasielgtumei? Elementarioji refleksija, kuri gali turėti daugiau naudos negu žalos.

„Žmonija yra maras.“ – kodėl mes, žmonės, esame apsėsti savo pačių rūšimi. Nyksta augalija, gyvūnija, o ką mes?

Vis stebiuosi, kiek drąsi yra viena iš veikėjų. Jauna mergina „stoja į kovą“ ne tik prieš jiems žinomą blogį, bet ir už tai, kad siekti tikslų yra teisinga ir reikalinga. Ką mes žinome apie mokslininkus? Juk dažniausiai jais tampa vyrai, tiesa? Tai, kaip argumentuotai yra kalbama mergaitės lūpomis apie moterų mokslininkių vaidmenį pasaulyje, koks jis menkinamas, kaip jomis yra nepasitikima kaip specialistėmis. Ne, svajoti ir siekti reikia drąsiai, tokios abejonės ir nepagrįsti tekstai vienai pagrindinių veikėjų nepraeis. Nėra kvailų ir neįdomių karjeros pasirinkimo galimybių.

Rekomenduoju jauniesiems skaitytojams. Šioje (ir visoje serijoje) rasite galybę įdomios medžiagos apmąstymams (gyvūnija, augalija, aplinkosauga), būdų nuotykių troškuliui numalšinti, įsikvėpti drąsos ryžtis, veikti, siekti tikslų ir troškimų, būti maža, bet svarbia dalimi šeimos, draugų, visuomenės, aplinkos ir pasaulio kontekste. Iš šios serijos išsinešu fundamentalias tiesas, kurias karts nuo karto naudinga būtų sau priminti.

Debo decir que he estado muy sorprendida con los libros middle grade que ha traído Editorial Océano estos años. ¡Los he disfrutado mucho! Muchos de ellos son trilogías y, de hecho, esta es le primera de los middle grade que he terminado. Espero que pronto traigan las ultimas partes de las demás.

Las entregas anteriores de esta saga me gustaron demasiado y, sinceramente, estuve deseando conocer cómo terminaría toda esta historia después de los acontecimientos del segundo libro.

Al igual que con los dos anteriores, leer esta parte fue sencillo y rápido; no se debió únicamente al formato (imágenes, letra grande), también porque la forma en la que la autora cuenta esta historia le brinda fluidez a las páginas.

Algo que no me gustó mucho, es que en esta ocasión sentí que no hubo tanta participación de los tres escarabajos principales. La novela se enfocó mucho más en Darkus en esta ocasión, en todo lo que lo rodea y la forma en que esto le afecta directamente hasta llegar al final.

Otra cosa que me pareció interesante, es que en este libro se profundizó en el personaje de Lucretia. Tenemos pequeños indicios de su pasado y dos discursos sobre sus intenciones respecto a su plan.

Sin duda fue un final entretenido y que estuvo al nivel de sus dos partes anteriores. Y las ilustraciones volvieron a maravillarme como con la segunda parte de la saga, aunque debo decir que, me parece, que fueron muchas menos que en el libro anterior.

Si quieren enseñarles a los más pequeños sobre la importancia del cuidado del medio ambiente y de cómo los animales, por más pequeños que sean, también tienen un papel grande en ello, estas novelas son una buena herramienta.

Conclusión
Una gran novela final para una saga divertida, entretenida y educativa, que cumple con la idea de volvernos conscientes respecto al cuidado de nuestro planeta y a comprender la importancia de cada ser por pequeño que sea

I had been looking forward to the final part of this 'Battle of the Beetles' trilogy for quite some time. With a style reminiscent of all-time favourite Roald Dahl, M.G. Leonard has written an epic story of 3 kids battling it out with a scientist-gone-mad (and gone beetle along the way) and saving the world helped by their super-hero beetles. An adventure that will catch the imagination of even the grown up kids among us.
In this third part, the battle of Darkus and his friends is as exciting as it was in the first 2 books. This time however, M.G. Leonard manages to do something quite extraordinary: Without making the story overly-complicated for the smaller readers, she adds a layer of depth and complexity to the character of the evil scientist who wants to take over the world (Mwuhahahah - sorry, couldn't help myself). Lucretia Cutter, apart from being quite off her rocker, does not want to wipe most of human kind from the face of the earth for the sake of power. Her goal is to give the earth back to nature and save the planet from those who are destroying it. M.G. Leonard makes her readers think about the inherently good motivations behind Lucretia's crazy and evil actions. Perhaps, readers are tempted to think, she isn't all bad... Luckily when the story comes to a close, Lucretia the evil scientist remains the evil scientist who - as it should be - is defeated with great success by freezing her clones, throwing a piano on her head and shooting her with a giant harpoon... So satisfying.
Summarising, Battle of the Beetles, like its 2 prequels is exciting and surprising, has funny and imaginative characters and is simply a joy for all ages!

"Käferkrawall" ist ein guter Abschluss der Reihe. Die Geschichte ist wie die beiden Vorgänger sehr fesselnd, das Ausmaß der Bedrohung durch die Gegenspielerin wird auf jeden Fall deutlich und ich fand gut, wie die Protagonisten mit den einzelnen Problemen umgegangen sind, mit denen sie konfrontiert wurde.

Die Ereignisse vom Ende des zweiten Bandes hatten schwerwiegende Konsequenzen und mir hat sehr gefallen, wie die Autorin damit umgegangen ist. Die Situation wird altersgerecht geschildert, aber trotzdem wird ersichtlich, wie drastisch und bedrohlich die Lage ist und welche Folgen es haben könnte, wenn Lucretia Cutter nicht ihren Willen bekommt. Man kann sehen, wieso sie aufgehalten werden muss, doch zugleich muss man anerkennen, dass ihre Pläne gut durchdacht und ausgearbeitet sind, vor allem, wenn man das schiere Ausmaß bedenkt. Sie ist ein gut ausgearbeiteter Charakter und auch wenn es eine gewisse schwarz/weiß Zeichnung gibt, gibt es einige Einblicke in ihr Denken und Fühlen, weshalb man nachvollziehen - wenn auch nicht gutheißen - kann, warum sie so handelt. Die Beschreibungen ihres Geheimverstecks klangen zudem interessant und ich konnte mir die Szenerie bildlich vorstellen.

Gut fand ich auch, dass die Figuren nicht einfach planlos handelten, sondern dass sie sich genau überlegt haben, wie sie vorgehen können und dass auch anerkannt wurde, wie überfordert sie teilweise mit der Lage waren. Wenn man bedenkt, wie viel auf dem Spiel steht - Cutter versucht, die ganze Welt zu unterwerfen - ist dies mehr als verständlich. Darkus und seine Freunde sind schließlich Kinder und es kam mir nachvollziehbar vor, dass sie manchmal zweifelten und nicht alle Probleme sofort lösen konnten. Außerdem ist die Mischung aus fesselnden, packenden Szenen und ruhigen Momenten, in denen es um die Entwicklung der Charaktere geht, gut gelungen. Die verschiedenen Hindernisse, die sie überwinden müssen, wurden packend geschildert und die Konfrontation mit ihrer Gegenspielerin war besonders spannend.

Wie schon in den Vorgängern fand ich die Schilderungen der Käfer sehr gelungen und die Rolle, die sie in der Geschichte gespielt haben, hat mir gut gefallen. Die außergewöhnliche Freundschaft der Kinder zu ihren Käfern wurde wieder schön dargestellt und sie haben auf jeden Fall entscheidende Beiträge zur Handlung geleistet.

Das Buch an sich würde ich mit 4 Sternen bewerten. Es ist ein mehr als gelungener Abschluss der Reihe, die Charaktere wurden wieder gut ausgearbeitet und ich fand die Geschichte interessant und oftmals fesselnd.

Had you told me before I started them that I`d be such a fan of this series, I wouldn`t have believed you, but boy, am I a fan of this series. It started wonderfully with Beetle Boy in 2016, upped the ante with Beetle Queen last year, and has now concluded perfectly with Battle of the Beetles. If you`ve been living under a rock and haven`t heard of these books, they`re about a young boy called Darkus stumbling upon some very special beetles and his subsequent involvement in attempting to stop Lucretia Cutter, a scientist/fashion designer with dark intentions, from using them to wreak havoc on the world. The younger characters are as brave, funny and clever as always and guardian Uncle Max is an excellent adult figure, but the one I want to mention most of all is Lucretia Cutter, who is a masterclass in writing a villain. She is absolutely one you love to hate, but at the same time you can see why she is doing some of what she is (though she is of course, still evil, and I do not support her, to clarify!). This was a truly exciting adventure, and I stayed up until the early hours to finish it as I couldn`t go to sleep without knowing the ending. The final scene brought a huge smile to my face, and captured exactly why I love the main quartet of characters and these books so very much. 5/5

In the third and final book in this beetle-filled series, readers will follow Darkus and his friends Virginia and Bertolt into the Amazon rainforest. There, Lucretia Cutter continues her plans to control the world through the aid of her biologically-engineered beetles. All the loose ends from the previous books are tightly neatly, and readers will be pleased to see Novak, Lucretia's hybrid daughter, return. There are plenty of hair-raising moments that will have readers on the edge of their seats, and the youngsters will rely heavily on assistance from their own beetle friends to bring Lucretia to her knees. All the suspense is leavened by the humorous cluelessness of Humphrey and Pickering, who have somehow made their way to the jungle but are bumbling through the jungle. I have to say the ending is perfect as life goes back to normal--or as normal as it can possibly be when you're known as the Beetle Boy. As I said about the previous two books, I came away from this one with an entirely new appreciation for beetles.
