Be warned: There's definitely content in this book that could be triggering to some readers, so be sure to check the content warnings if you feel the need to, or are uncertain of anything.
"Oh, what sweet torture it is to be cared for by someone who doesn’t know he’s meant to hate me."
"Shamed" is ... it's a book that will make you feel a lot.
It's about the young woman, Jennifer, who was sexually assaulted at seventeen, and accused a young man named Jacob of doing it (who we read about in the first book of this series, "Broken Souls."). She doesn't realize until nearly eight years later that it wasn't Jacob at all, but someone else. Of course she wants to make it right, but the actual rapist blackmails her (risking her father's business and hundreds of people's jobs) and in fear of retaliation, she keeps quiet. She can't hardly live with herself though, and decides to spend the next two years punishing herself.
Mase was formally one of Jacob's friends back in school, though he kept some distance between them and the other guys of their group. He had his reasons which we learn about later. When everything went down with Jacob's arrest, Mase completely separated himself from them, not wanting to be associated with them.
He spends much of his life trying to help others, especially women who are victims of abuse, and teaches self defense lessons. He goes to women's shelters and strip clubs to offer women there lessons to help protect themselves. This is how he bumps into Jennifer (aka "Jayne"), though he doesn't recognize her at first. He still sees something in her that makes him want to help her, however, despite her reluctance. They eventually get closer, and help each other find some happiness and peace again. It doesn't come without its challenges, they both have trauma to overcome, but they help each other through it.
It takes a while for Mase to open to about his demons to Jayne, but she doesn't see him any differently once she learns everything he keeps secret.
Unfortunately, when the time comes that Jayne decides to tell him HER secrets, he doesn't react as well. He does go back to speak with her not too long after, but what he finds is terrifying, but it does begin a healing journey for Jayne and Mase both.
Nothing I write here will do this book justice. It's a bit of a darker read due to the subject matters, but it's still such a good read. There's anguish, heart flutters, pain, fuzzy feelings, guilt and misery, second chances and hope. So much is to be found in these pages, and if you're mentally ready for it, I suggest you give it a go.
The book COULD be read as a standalone, but at the very least, I suggest reading "Wronged" first, which is Jacob's story.

Rin takes us on an emotional journey in the final book of the Broken Souls Series. It’s raw and heartbreaking, but in the end, we get the redemption we’ve bern looking for. I couldn’t ask for a stronger conclusion to this series. You will cry, but your broken pieces will be put back together.

What an absolutely epic conclusion to this series! Mase was the character that captivated my attention from the very first book, and his story did not disappoint! His relationship with Jayne, from the very moment they met, had my heart pounding with anticipation. The sorrow, the tension, the angst, the emotion; everything culminated into my favourite story of the entire series! An absolute huge BRAVO to Rin Sher!

Broken Souls #4: Shamed by Rin Sher is an absolute emotional powerhouse and a stunning conclusion to the Broken Souls series. From the very first page, I was completely invested in Jennifer and Mase’s journey — raw, painful, and achingly real. Rin Sher doesn’t shy away from heartbreak; she dives into it, unflinchingly showing the toll of guilt, regret, and the search for redemption. But just when your heart feels shattered, she heals those cracks with the most tender, hopeful moments of connection and love.

Oh where to even begin 😍🫶🏻 Oh my gosh!!!! 😭😭😍😍🙌🏼🙌🏼❤️❤️ I can’t even put into words how amazing this story was! The way I started out the book not liking/hating/having rough feelings for both the main characters to the way I absolutely fell in love with both of them and their heartbreaking backstories that brought the whole series together! ❤️❤️❤️ the way Mase and Jenn were able to heal each other while seeing the best in their worst times. such an amazing incredible ending to such a phenomenally heart breaking series. the roller coaster of emotions and very late night was so worth it!!! This book was phenomenal! Definitely my top read of the year!

Emotional roller coaster is the best way to describe this book. I didn’t read books 1-3 so I was going in blind with this book. I’m glad that I did. Now I need to check out books 1-3!

The FMC goes through a very traumatic event that put her in the spotlight for a little bit. Then years later as an adult she was threatened and found out what really happened. In turn she truly did torture herself. She believed that she didn’t deserve to be happy or even safe for that matter.
I will say that everything works out in the end for everyone..well ALMOST everyone.

WOW the emotions evoked whilst following Jennifer and Mase’s journey, I honestly have no words to justify how outstanding this book was. From their tangled histories to their apprehensions about their futures, these two had me captivated. I was fully immersed from the very first page, until the last, I couldn’t get enough. Shamed has buried its way under my skin, it’s taken the top spot when it comes to my favourite reads this year. It’s my favourite of Rin’s books she’s written to date. An amazing book, from an amazing series. I highly recommend it.

Heartbreaking story that will tear you apart and give you the best hea ever! By all means - this is not an easy read. It’s gritty dirty and will keep you on the edge. You’ll love it for the well deserved story this tells. It’ll rip you apart and then the ending will be soooo satisfying and worth it. 5 stars all around!!!

Shamed is the fourth, and final book, in the Broken Souls series masterfully written by Rin Sher.
Jennifer, aka as Jayne as the story unfolds, brings her story to the reader. The tragedy that affected so many lives is recounted from her point of view bringing the reader deeper into this horrendous event and the shocking outcomes as a result.
Rin masterfully crafted Jennifer's story and paid careful attention to detail to provide continuity to the the whole story. Jennifer's physical and emotional damage as a result of a violent assault is carefully told with respect to Jennifer as well as to the reader. Jennifer is a complex character built from a one strong but now crumbling foundation. I appreciate the careful detail throughout the story.
I did not like Mase in Wronged! I was not sure how Rin was going to make me get behind him and want to see him and Jennifer get together. His story is carefully told with much love for the character and respect for him and his story. I appreciate that he did not hide his story from Jennifer, but shared his truth with her. Jennifer and Mase stripped themselves raw thus connecting them, yet had a journey to endure to make it out.
One thing that I love about this series is that Rin said it wouldn't be wrapped up with a bow. Events did not change and magically go away. The rawness of the ending made it so much more impactful when reading. I found my heart racing while the tears flowed.
Bravo Rin! This book was worth the wait.

Sad the series is over but it ended perfectly! I thought the way this story ended was just right and realistic. If it went another way (Some romances would have ) I wouldn’t have liked it so I’m glad it ended the way it did and yes it’s HEA. I really loved Mase! He’s just the best. So much more to him than we ever knew. Jennifer is messy, there are a lot of layers to her but as I got to know her more my heart hurt for her. I enjoyed reading her side of the story and after the first part where you get her side it made sense and you no longer were angry at her for something you think she did throughout the series. I absolutely loved the bonus epilogue, it was really the best way to end the series and made my heart happy.
I highly recommend this series. Jacob from book one will always be one of my most memorable MMC in a book. Not sure I will ever forget him. All four books have triggers and this one has a few more triggers than the others. I recommend reading at least book one before reading this one to be able to fully understand it. 💕

HOLY COW. I don't even have words right now. This was perfect. Like THE BEST ending to the series. I loved this story more than I thought I would.
If you haven't read this series, I HIGHLY recommend it. This author needs more attention.

Amazing read!!
Rin Sher definitely finished off the Broken Souls series with a bang!!
Jennifer's story had me reading through the night to find out if she got her happy ending.
Rin Sher's way with words gets you sucked into the story like you are the main character.
I can't wait to see what her next release will be!

I have loved this entire series and have not so secretly loathed Jennifer & Mase - I mean how could you not after reading Wronged? I expected to totally start Shamed disliking Jennifer and that Rin would have to work her writing magic for that to change. Well, Rin worked that writing magic and I was an emotional mess in the prologue. This book is gut wrenching in its entirety. Jennifer and Mase are messy, broken characters and Rin writes them so beautifully that you can't help but be in their corner. This book is like nothing I have ever read. Phenomenal, top read of the year!

I enjoyed this book although I wish it came out right after book one. They feel like they should had been a duet or intertwined two parts. It was so long ago that I read wronged and I was waiting for this book for a while. I didn’t do a reread and had to go back and look up why Jacob had gotten accused twice. It was a nice wrap to the series but I really wanted this book a long time ago and would have enjoyed it more if they were released consecutively (I would had binged it).
This had an overload of trauma almost to the point where I just walked away sad. I wanted a more hea between all the characters this Rape affected. Didn’t really feel like Dylan got what he deserved (death is to easy) and Jennifer aka Jayne’s mom didn’t get served justice either for just being a shit mom.
I enjoyed the duel pov for Jayne and Mase but it was defiantly a slow burn and kinda predictable once he found out her secret of knowingly accusing his friend of something he didn’t do. Just wish the tone was a bit brighter in the end. Give them a family of their own or friend starting to talk again it was just a little too tragic but still a great read.

The best ending this series could have ❤️❤️ Jennifer and Mase have a tangled history that brings them together in an unsuspecting way. Jennifer comes far from the person she is and her tenacity in the end shows no bounds.

I have absolutely love this series so much and this book was no different! It was the perfect finale to such an amazing series.
I felt it all! I laughed, I CRIED and most of all, I LOVED! Can’t recommend this book and this series enough!

I don’t even have the words for how perfect this book was. Every single piece fell exactly where it needed to, and that ending? Absolute perfection. The way everything came together and every question was answered so flawlessly had me sitting there stunned long after I finished. My feelings were all over the place the entire time. One minute I was furious at the characters, the next my heart was breaking for them, and then somehow I was mad all over again. I was an emotional wreck in the best possible way.

Have you ever anticipated a book for so long that you started imagining all the ways the story might unfold? That was exactly how I felt waiting for Shamed. After so much buildup, the final installment in the Broken Souls series finally arrived—and it absolutely lived up to the wait and was far better than anything I dreamed up in my head.
Redemption stories can be some of the most difficult stories to pull off. After spending three books disliking a character, it’s hard to imagine ever seeing them differently. But Rin knew the assignment and nailed it. Jennifer, now going by Jayne, drew out so many emotions, and my heart genuinely ached for her. Her journey is dark and emotional as she struggles with feelings of unworthiness because of her past mistakes.
Mase was the perfect match for her. He’s just as damaged in his own ways, and together they fit so naturally, like two broken pieces finally finding where they belong.
I truly didn’t want this series to end. I became so attached to these characters, and this was such a beautiful and satisfying conclusion to their journey.

This ARC read sounded so promising that I truly went all in for it. I didn’t know the author beforehand, but since this was the fourth book in a series, I decided to fully commit and read all the other books first. It simply didn’t feel fair to dive into this one without knowing the full history. While it probably would still have been possible to follow the story without reading the previous books, I honestly think the overall experience is so much better if you do.

Hmmm… how do I even summarize this? After finishing book one, I genuinely wasn’t sure whether I was going to enjoy this story. I was so affected by everything that happened that I felt almost personally offended on behalf of the characters. Angry, emotional, confused… all of it. But wow, this book absolutely did not disappoint. What a whirlwind of emotions. Holy moly.
Jennifer, or Jayne, has not had an easy life. And while you think you know certain things about her from the earlier books, this story quickly makes you realize that you actually knew almost nothing at all. The beginning of the book honestly felt like falling through a trapdoor. Every single time I thought, “okay, life really cannot get worse for you,” something else happened. It was emotionally exhausting in the best possible way.
The same thing happened with Mase, honestly. Back in book two, I thought he was kind of an ass. But this book completely changed my perspective on him. I think he might actually be my favorite now? Damn. Mase is incredibly caring, gentle, and genuinely trying his best, especially once you fully understand his background. My heart genuinely broke for him multiple times throughout the story.
The storyline itself is heavy. This is not a lighthearted read and definitely not sunshine and rainbows. But I absolutely love books with strong plots, original storylines, and broken main characters, and this story delivered exactly that. Huge bonus points for the fact that the author never glosses over difficult topics or tries to make situations seem prettier than they really are. Because of that, the story feels raw and realistic. That being said, I do think this could be a very emotionally taxing book for some readers, so please take the trigger warnings seriously.
I thought the ending was very well written and worked beautifully as the conclusion to all four books. Personally, I secretly hoped for a little more, but at the same time, I also realized that this was probably the highest achievable outcome for these characters. And honestly, I think the author judged that perfectly.
All in all, I absolutely loved this book and the series as a whole, even with its heavy and emotional undertones. It completely pulled me in, broke my heart a little, and kept me invested until the very last page. I would absolutely read more books by this author.

Hmmm… how do I even summarize this? After finishing book one, I genuinely wasn’t sure whether I was going to enjoy this story. I was so affected by everything that happened that I felt almost personally offended on behalf of the characters. Angry, emotional, confused… all of it. But wow, this book absolutely did not disappoint. What a whirlwind of emotions. Holy moly.
Jennifer, or Jayne, has not had an easy life. And while you think you know certain things about her from the earlier books, this story quickly makes you realize that you actually knew almost nothing at all. The beginning of the book honestly felt like falling through a trapdoor. Every single time I thought, “okay, life really cannot get worse for you,” something else happened. It was emotionally exhausting in the best possible way.
The same thing happened with Mase, honestly. Back in book two, I thought he was kind of an ass. But this book completely changed my perspective on him. I think he might actually be my favorite now? Please make sure to check the trigger warnings for this book prior to reading. This book does discuss traumatic situations. Although there are some heavy topics. I feel the way they were presented and discussed were very respectful.
When I first saw that we were going to get Jennifer’s side in this book, I was so excited. Having read wronged, I was absolutely hooked to this storyline from the start. I really love getting to read a book that doesn’t have the same storyline that you find all over.
I’m not even sure how to put into words how I felt reading this book. This book was well written, and I could not put it down. I can’t tell you how many nights I fell asleep reading this book because I was so invested and I didn’t want to stop. This book brought out so many raw emotions. I think it does such a good job highlighting all aspects of dealing with a traumatic event such as sexual assault.
I really loved how the first part of the book was really focused on Jennifer and her journey. I feel like I was really able to see Jennifer‘s perspective of herself and feel the guilt/pain she held. Processing through sexual assault can be so different for everyone. This book did a really good job of showing how that type of situation really can impact someone in a very realistic way.
I also really loved the second part of the book that really started to involve Mase. Mase, I feel is such a genuine character. I don’t remember much about him from reading wronged, but I’m so glad that we were able to get to know him in this book. I feel like you are able to feel the passion that he has for helping others and I feel like it was really easy to connect with him despite him being a fictional character.
I loved the relationship between Jennifer and Mase. The focus on consent and his encouragement for her to take control with her sexual experiences I feel was very empowering. I think that the relationship building between these two was amazing. I felt like the sex scenes were both tasteful and hot. I loved the vulnerability shown by Mase. As much as I love a MMC who would do anything to protect the FMC, I appreciate and love that Mase wanted to help Jennifer feel like she could protect herself.
Honestly, this is one of the best books I’ve read this year. I really like books that pull on that raw emotion and that are unique stories. I feel like Rin Sher is always able to deliver in both of those areas.

Shamed is the fourth and final book in the Broken Souls series. It is a trigger filled Acquaintance to Lovers, Forbidden Romance filled with a lot of angst and a little spice. I recommend reading this series in order, there is a back story that stretches across the entire series, reading in order will keep from spoilers or confusion.
Wow. Shamed was the ending to this series I didn't realized I needed. When I saw there are four books in this series, I thought I knew who's version of the story we would see in each book. Then things happened in the first book that blew that theory out of the water, leaving me stumped for the POV for this book. Honestly, when I found out it was Jennifer's story. I was not optimistic. I was very, very wrong to feel that way. Once again Rin Sher took me on a journey with an unexpected route, leaving me shocked, ugly crying, mad, amazed and in awe. I loved watching Jennifer cope and grow. Mase, the male main character, was on my bad list from previous books. I expected that villian energy to continue, but as with most of my predictions, I was wrong, and I am ecstatic about it.
I can not put into words how much I have appreciated, adored this series. Rin Sher took a taboo topic, flipped the usual script, and gave us not one, but for amazing stories. The series plot, each character and their journeys are raw and realistic, no sugar coating. Very few characters and their books stay with me for long, being replaced by the next round of characters, but I can easily say Everyone in this series will stick with me for a very long time.

And yet, here we are.
In this book, you get to see what happened from another point of view. And while you'll never stop grieving everything Jacob lost, you'll also start to see how much Jennifer lost too. The way she atones for her sins, it's impossible not to feel for her.
You'll also see Mase in a whole new light.
Mase is such an emotionally complex character. He's driven by justice, protective of the people he loves, and persistent with the way he shows up for Jennifer. He's also incredibly generous, giving back to a cause that is deeply meaningful and personal to him. I loved seeing his perspective and thoughts.

Shamed was one of those books that emotionally drained me in the best possible way. Rin Sher has this way of writing broken, damaged characters that feel painfully real, and this story was full of heartbreak, shame, healing, and that desperate need to be loved despite your past. The emotional weight in this book was heavy from start to finish, but that’s what made it impossible to put down.
What I loved most was how raw the characters felt. Nobody was perfect, nobody was magically healed overnight, and every emotion felt messy and authentic. The romance had this aching vulnerability to it that made every small moment hit harder. The tension, the pain, the longing. All of it felt intense without ever feeling overdone.
Rin’s writing always pulls me in because it feels emotional before anything else, and Shamed was no different. It hurt, it healed, and it left me sitting there afterward feeling emotionally exhausted but completely satisfied. Mase was a friend of Jacob’s in school, but he distanced himself from him after him after the attack, and now Mace teaches self-defence lessons to woman, and when he sees Jennifer, he does not recognise her at first. Jacob paid for a crime he did not commit, and 8-years later, Jennifer realises she accused to wrong man, and her actual attacker is blackmailing her, and threatening her father’s business and his employees.
This is a well written raw, and gritty, emotional roller coaster, with family, friendships, tension, angst, regrets, challenges, revelation, redemption, extortion, healing, and love, which leads to a spicy, entertaining, tragic, and unpredictable, small-town romance.
I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

What an end to the Broken Souls series! Shamed is Mase's story and what a ride! It is so emotional and raw. Both Mase and Jennifer (Jayne) are on a journey that will have your stomach hurting and your heart pounding. Life is so full of choices and each one we make can have devastating effects. The "what if's" can be overwhelming.
I loved Mase and Jayne's journey. Nothing was easy. The truths were sometimes unbearable. Each victory was hard fought. I had the hardest time with the last two chapters. They were brutal! Then the relief of the epilogues. The ending is happy but not overboard. I would love to see a snapshot of Mase and Jayne in the future future. Maybe with some kids. At 571+ pages their story is well thought out and thoroughly told. Make sure you have time and tissues for this conclusion.

A very emotional and difficult story to read. Jennifer is violated and she cannot get past the shame, self-loathing, and feeling of worthlessness. She keeps sinking deeper and deeper into depression and isolating herself from her friends. I could feel her slipping away and it was heartbreaking.
I'm not giving anything away by saying the wrong person is jailed for the crime. She figures out who is the real culprit and he has ingrained himself so far into her family business and life, that he uses that for leverage to blackmail and keep her quiet.
She has a long journey to heal and Mase is the one that helps her, actually they help each other. A heart wrenching and satisfying end to their story.
I'm not giving anything away by saying the wrong person is jailed for the crime. She figures out who is the real culprit and he has ingrained himself so far into her family business and life, that he uses that for leverage to blackmail and keep her quiet.

I've been waiting for the story behind the incarceration of Jacob (from book 1, Wronged).
When Jennifer is sexually assaulted, a young man who had a crush on her is blamed for the crime.
The trauma she experiences is written well and it broke my heart reading how extensively Jennifer punished herself after finding out the wrong person was in jail for her assault.
When Mase comes back into her life, you can't help but see how broken these two characters are. I enjoyed that they were there for each other. Mase was a solid character and I loved how much he doted after his mom, and Jennifer when she reappears in his life.

I could not out this one down. It was a raw, real, emotional journey for both Jennifer and Mase. This had so much - Guilt, Regret, Mistakes and it truly hurts your heart, but then you also have Redemption, Starting over and Healing that settles your soul. It was beautifully written and was the perfect ending for the Broken Soul's series. This one stayed with me well after the last page. Well done Rin Sher, well done!

This is a Book in the Broken Souls Series by this author, and can be read as a standalone. It is an emotional romance between Jennifer and Mase. These two flawed souls and the unique plot make for an interesting read. It is a heartbreaking journey with drama, angst, love, frustrating moments, and twists and turns, plus engaging secondary characters. Quite a page turner.
