In 1187 A.D., Saladin, the founder of the Ayyubid dynasty, raised a mighty army and promised to destroy the Crusaders States of the Levant. Guy of Lusignan, King of Jerusalem, will marshal all available forces to meet this rising threat. Marcus, The Last Roman, will join this force as it marches to engage Saladin. Heavily outnumbered, will the crusaders prevail or will the desert exact a price that no man can pay.

Burning through these short stories from B.K. Greenwood this week. I really appreciate that he has made these stories available that didn't quite make it into the main books!
This one definitely had a Kingdom of Heaven film vibe to it. As a rather big fan of that movie it was rather enjoyable. As usual this story follows Marcus (or Marques to many in this one) through the great crusade against Saladine.
This one includes the usual action that the author brings each time. In such a short time I still felt like I got to know several of the side characters. I mean enough to dislike some and respect others. I always find the ability of some authors to get the reader to have those feelings in so few pages!
The first short story I read, Impaled, also had the character, Marcus. whom I enjoyed. Both short stories I received by signing up for email updates are an introduction to the style of this author, and I am now interested in further reading.
