As a young child, Carlotta Sanchez finds a gold nugget. She hangs it around her neck, believing it is her good luck charm, but her disastrous childhood continues. When she falls in love with a gambler who showers her with expensive jewelry and couture outfits, she removes the nugget and believes her life is on the right course. But not long after her marriage, Carlotta discovers he is cheating on her, and her life starts to crumble.
