This books is an easy read that covers most basic aspects of life in medieval England, such as food, clothing, entertainment, the justice system, and religion. I loved the section on medieval myths and was surprised to learn that fairies were seen as evil ! As a historical fiction author, this book covered the fundamentals and gave me ideas for plot and character development.
Individual topics will require more research, particular personal hygiene which other sources I have read do not give me the impression it was as bad as this book implies, depending on the century and time of the year. In the summer when it was hot, people probably did swim/bathe. In particular, Modern History TV explains how soap did exist in medieval England from the 10th century onward, 4mins 35secs
This book was a great overview of the medieval era in England. Even with being a quick run through of the time, there were many things that I read that was new information to me. I would recommend this book to anyone who is curious about the time, but wants just a quick read.
Enthralling History has done it again! Medieval England was one of my favorite books that I have read from them so far! Get to know Medieval England in depth with this concise and fun book! Get to know royalty, daily life, the black plague, women's roles, and so many things from this book! I really enjoyed reading through some of the myths that came from the medieval times, as well and digging back into history with this fun book! I'm a history buff but find that history books can be boring. Not so Medieval England: An Enthralling Overview of the English Middle Ages. History came alive through the concise and interesting history lessons with lots of details about everyday life that you don't learn about in school. I learned a lot interesting facts about Medieval England that I wouldn't have learned otherwise and there was never a dull moment! This book is a must read!
I cannot even tell you about the content, because the tone/cadence of the reader is SO SO SO SO SO ANNOYING that after a few minutes you just want to punch somebody in the face until you become dehydrated and faint, which will allow you to stop listening to this fellow, which is the only thing you want after a few minuters. I have listening to a ton of audiobooks, but this, really, I don't know how it got to be published.
1) I listened to this from my online library and my GOD -- the narrator's pronunciation was horrible. 2) I'm American. Americans know how to say Agincourt! It's not egginchord! Ugh! 3) I liked the information.
Enjoyable and well-written 👌 I have always had an interest in the period but didn't get a chance to read about it but now has been illuminated (the Dark ages, illuminated get it?)
Interesting, but short, history of a medieval England. From the historical, the social, the religious , and the Arts, the author explains, as concise as me could, the life of medieval England.
This is a great book that covers Medieval England which highlights the fall of roman Britan and the mass migration that followed and the effects that it had. In addition, it goes on to discuss the kingdoms that came about as a result along with other fascinating facts as well.
Excellent book. Very easy to read and understand. Informative and interesting. Definitely recommend this.book for someone who does not want a heavy in-depth read about the middle ages.
