Coral and Liam met in ROTC when they were just 18 years old. Coral was a girl from a rough neighborhood and upbringing trying to make something of herself and Liam was the cocky, rich, privileged kid who had never been told no in his life...until he met Coral. Of course Liam saw her rejection as a challenge and wanted nothing more than to get to know her more. After going to war and having to rely on one another to survive, they became best friends and eventually fell in love. Or so Coral thought, before one day Liam up and left without so much as reason or explanation, only to turn up in the news couple weeks later after having married another woman. Coral threw herself into her work and was content to move on, until one of her cases lead her right back to the man who abandoned her so many years ago.
Sometimes I just want a quick and steamy one off. Something where I don’t have to get too much in my thoughts, where my feelings and ability to read are the only things I need to enjoy a book. When I say this book was perfect for that, I’m not exaggerating.
I like to think of myself as a progressive woman. Someone who doesn’t need a man to prosper in life. But there’s something about a man knowing you can take care of yourself and handle your own but still wanting to love, serve and protect you. It’s HOT, I can’t even sit here and pretend it isn’t. That’s the kind of dynamic Coral and Liam have. She’s a war veteran, worked in the CIA and is now a security consultant in her own firm. She’s clearly more than capable of handling her own against anyone including Liam. But seeing Liam get all protective and Alpha when it came to Coral... SWOON!
Of course when you’re reading books, there needs to be substance as well because then what is the point right? This is Where I Sleep had an interesting and engrossing plot to supplement the romance which is all I ever ask for. Someone tried to kill Coral and that person somehow has something to do with the troubles Liams company is currently facing. So in the midst of the two trying to figure out what is or isn’t between them, they’re trying to track down who is trying to take them out before they actually succeed. Some things were super predictable, but as I said before, I didn’t go into this book wanting to have to use my brain much, so for me it was a perfect balance.
I’ve never heard of Tiffany Patterson before but I definitely enjoyed her writing. Her characters were well flushed out, there was a steady and believable progression in all of the feelings between the characters and their relationship development. The pacing was perfect, nothing was focused on for too long or glossed over. This Is Where I Sleep is the quintessential book hangover read and if the rest of her books are similar to this one, I’ll rest easy for the next couple books I read, knowing that if I ever need another one off, I already have a few lined up.
