Opportune murder or hatred-driven revenge? Sheriff Zeb Hanks races to find the killers who are stalking Graham County. Will he be in time to save those he loves best?
Ex-sheriff Abe Januschka and Archie Torringo, heir-apparent of a real estate empire, lie brutally murdered in a convenience store. Is this a robbery gone wrong or something more?
At first look the two murdered men seem to have nothing in common. Archie Torringo is an outsider and Abe Januschka has deep roots in the area. In fact, Zeb’s father-in-law, Bodeaway Skysong, has known the murdered ex-sheriff for a long time. Is his personal interest in the case just that of an old friend, or do the two share a long-buried secret?
As the body count rises, Sheriff Zeb Hanks finds sinister links to past events and motives that suggest the killers are not finished. When Zeb puts together the pieces, he realizes the killers have his family in their crosshairs and will stop at nothing to fulfill their thirst for revenge.
Mark Reps has been a writer and storyteller his whole life. Born in small town southeastern Minnesota, he trained as a mathematician and chiropractor but never lost his love of telling or writing a good story. As an avid desert wilderness hiker Mark spends a great deal of time roaming the desert and other terrains of southeastern Arizona from December to May. A chance meeting with an old time colorful sheriff led him to develop the Zeb Hanks character and the world that surrounds him. Mark returns often to SE Arizona for inspiration, information and to maintain the general feel of the area, learn its history and understand the local residents.
When Mark started writing he became pen pals with Tony Hillerman who offered up tips, criticism and ideas on some of his early novels. His books are often compared with the Longmire television series and books by Craig Johnson.
Mark’s most recent project is the eighth installment of the ZEB HANKS series, NATIVE DESTINY which launched in the spring of 2018. He is working on a Zeb Hanks Novella which will be distributed free to subscribers. Books nine and ten (and likely beyond) are planned at a pace of one per year through 2020. Welcome to the series!
Many thanks to the many wonderful, loyal readers out there! Feedback is always welcome and Mark tries to respond to every request and question. If you read and enjoy the books, please review them on Amazon and Goodreads.

Like all the books in this series it caused me to lose a lot of sleep I can usually pick up a book and read a page or paragraph and lay the book down for another time. Not these. They are written about the part of the country I know and they include Native Americans and their lore and mthology which I love. The story is well written and as always the characters climb right into you mind and take up residence. Lots of suspense as two stories actually intertwine to come together at the end. Well worth your time.
An. excellent book. The story was fast paced and exciting to read. Lots of information on how the Apache people think and follow their traditional beliefs. I enjoy books about other ethnic groups. It broadens my knowledge of people who come from a different background. The book was expertly written. The story was well thought out and very enjoyable. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author.
This one was really good! Was so sad about the horse though. Got a kick out of the old farmer and the lap dancer! Can't wait until August when the next book in this series comes out!
A great series. Hate to see it end. Mark must keep on turning out these compelling and delightful stories. as a fan of Longmire and of Hillerman's writings I can assure these stories do not disappoint.
I’ve read every book in this series and always get drawn into both the story and learning more about Indian traditions. It’s very respectful towards the characters and definitely makes me proud reading about the way the author shows how good law informant works.
