A survivor of life and death, a fighter of depression, and a believer in the power of the universe, Ashish Bagrecha—the best-selling author of self-help book Dear Stranger, I Know How You Feel, and one of the most popular Instagram poets in the country—brings you his very first collection of poetry, because he thinks poems have the magic ability to heal people. Divided into six chapters, Love, Hope and Magic is about loving deeply and getting broken. It’s about falling into the darkness and still chasing the light. It’s about letting love find you, trusting the universe and believing in the magic we carry within ourselves. Love, Hope and Magic is not written to inspire you but to fix you.
there were a few pieces that i liked. i thought the first part, 'love comes', was like a love letter to love, and that was nice. however, the rest of it were meh. personally not really into the whole "instagram poetry" genre.
This was a torturous read. Firstly, a massive trigger warning for the glorification of self-harm was NOT given. Seriously, what the hell, HarperCollins? I genuinely don't even understand the point of this book.
The poet uses the title verbatim at least 8 times, and sure, at first it was like a cool callback vibe, but it got boring and annoying quickly. Almost as if he was trying to sneak in the title because he didn't know what to write. In one "piece", he compares the love of his life to the sun, saying that "you don't need anything else to shine, unlike the moon." Literally 6 pages later he writes, "The moon reminds me of you". AT LEAST STICK TO THE SAME METAPHOR!
Another thing I noticed was that there were at least 2-3 poems in which he says, "People are made of stardust" and I can't help but wonder if he read Nikita Gill's poem about people being made out of stardust. The similarity is too close to my liking.
All the "pieces" in this book would do better as emo Tumblr posts in the 2010s, or better yet, tweets.
In conclusion, this collection is filled with weak metaphors and underdeveloped concepts. I feel like the poet could have combined many of the pieces to make medium-length poems instead of couplets or 4 line poems. It clearly feels like they went for quantity instead of quality, just like most insta poets.
🪄This is a beautiful poetry book where the content is split into three topics - Love, Hope, and Magic and the main topics are divided into six chapters. 🪄Author has penned down the roller coaster of emotions like "He inhaled pain and exhaled poetry". 🪄 It's about falling into the darkness and still chasing the light. 🪄It's about letting love find you, trusting the universe and believing in the magic we carry within ourselves. 🪄Heart-wrenching emotions in the form of poetry. 🪄When we connect with emotions, the lines of the poems will be so relatable.
Love comes, leaves and pains, but magic happens and stays, and all we need is a little hope in between.
I personally LOVED this book it inspired me and brought me to tears with the poetry written in the book. The story is conveyed through a poem in each page and separated in 4-3 different sections but same story. The story is so heartbreaking and so relatable I felt the authors love and pain and it was so beautifully written. This book def helped and inspired me to write more so 5/5 stars for me. Highly recommend!
This was just not for me. I thought the poems were repetitive and not well structured. They didn't flow well throughout the collection and it just wasn't something I would want to read again or recommend to a friend.
