From Bavaria to early San Francisco - a story of love and opportunity - with related letters by others
When Jacob Gundlach left Germany in 1850 to start a new life in California, he left behind his love, Eva Hoffman. Over her father's objections, she waited for Jacob to return in 1858 to elope with him and return to California. Their marriage was ultimately allowed, and they honeymooned in Europe, sailed to America and established a family. They made a life in San Francisco and established a winery in Sonoma County, a business - Gundlach Bundschu - that thrives today with good music, good food, good wine and a caring extended family, traditions started over 150 years ago by Jacob and Eva in Gold Rush San Francisco.
