I was just sixteen when I saw him for the first time. Fierce and protective, he ignited my dwindled hope. Except he wasn’t my white knight. He didn’t save me. No, he didn’t even notice me.
Now he doesn’t want to let me go. Sebastian claims I didn’t hold up my end of the deal. That I still owe him. Not only does he hold the one thing I need, but how can I walk away from him when he’s asking me to stay?
I thought I knew what loving him meant, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. Every day with him, I fall harder and faster until the thought of leaving him behind is unbearable. Only it feels as though my past is just one step behind.
My secrets are no longer safe, and with the more time that passes, they threaten to unravel completely, leaving nothing but the damaged girl beneath. And with my heart and my life on the line, I don’t know if I’ll make it out unscathed.
Gods. I hate cliffhangers, but this book is so good and not just the steamy parts! I'll admit this is a pretty tough book to read, given the content, but I still loved it.
Not as good as the first *WARNING ENDS ON CLIFFHANGER - TRIGGERS: sexual assult of a minor, violence, rape and murder* This book was up and down for me.. it started strong.. straight continuation from the first which was great, but then it just seemed to have some unnecessary elements that leaned towards a bit wattpady to me that i started to skip. There was waaay to long between conversations with unnecessary descriptions of places, clothes or inner thoughts when i just wanted them to answer the question haha. The smut kicked up and for a girl who has been sexually abused since 13 by her uncle she seems to have no trauma (except one moment when Sebastian attempts the back door if you know what i mean) when it comes to being intimate with Sebastian and she is up for it every minute.. I just wanted them to have some moments where it wasnt all about that. (The girl had 2 major panic attacks within maybe an hour of each other but goes home and gets it on. Its just not realistic she would be absolutely exhausted) She never feels any guilt for still lieing and hiding secrets from him (never 1 moment) but will happily sleep with him, go on a shopping trip and spend his money (including lingerie) then of course go on the cliché trip away on a private jet and just get it on the whole time (i was honestly expected it to be paris at this point)... i really wish there was some more imagination some times with these stories. The Mafia side was almost non existent in this book it was literally just Emery/Grace and Sebastian skirting around their relationship until the literal last chapter when it got interesting. Hopefully book 3 will bring it back to its original state.
My heart just breaks for Emery, over and over. The moment finally has come, and I can’t cope. Yet again was I thrown over the cliff with the drama and suspense. I love how protective the men around her are, especially Mason. He knew something awful happened before he was told, and still watched out for her. Ethan intrigues me. He’s protective and so great at informing her that she’s being looked for, then even standing up for her when he’s clearly unmatched. I’d love to hear more of his background, considering his nature. I’d also love to get more of a background on Lucas, or maybe even his own book! He seems to take Emery in pretty easily, perhaps because he knew who she was prior…but who knows. Regardless, I’m going to need the third book ASAP, because recovering from these cliffhangers isn’t going so well.
I received an advanced review copy in exchange for an honest review.
This series has a strangle hold on me! I love a good cliffhanger, the anticipation of the conclusion makes it all the sweeter. Watching Emery and Sebastian's relationship grow through this book was such an enjoyable experience. I read the last line and immediately flipped back to the beginning. This would be my favourite 5 star read this year!
A really fast paced book which I loved as the continuation from book one which was more of a slow burn. This was exciting, intriguing and I needed to know what was going on as soon as physically possible.
The ending...as usual, I need the next book. I need the rest of their story!!
