Sink your teeth into this irresistible forbidden romance from USA Today bestselling author Stacey Kennedy about the vampire Warden of Charleston and the new-in-town witch who’s causing him all kinds of trouble…
Willa Farrington’s magic is broken. Shunned by her coven for failing to pass the Summer Solstice Rite, Willa escapes to the one place no witch belongs – Charleston, a city that belongs to vampires. Determined to embrace her new life, Willa opens Cauldron Boil Books, and unexpectedly finds some friends among the vampires…
Until one terrible night Willa ends up on the wrong side of a pair of fangs. Thankfully, her captor’s plan is ruined when Killian Constantine, the drop-dead gorgeous Warden of Charleston, shows up to save her. But just when Willa thinks she’s safe, Killian, rumored to be the most feared vampire in the city, furiously demands to know why she – a witch – telepathically called him for help.
Intent on finding answers, the two embark on a journey to unravel the mystery behind Willa’s attack and their unusual connection. As they get closer to the truth, the fiery passion between them ignites. But their forbidden romance isn’t making them many friends, and just as Willa starts to think that her entire existence is a lie, deadlier forces come out of the shadows. She will need to believe in her malfunctioning magic, trust bloodthirsty vampires, and cross her fingers that she and Killian make it out together… and that neither end up dead.

Fun, intense, and hot! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What the Fang – love the title- is a trip! Kennedy immediately grabs your attention, wraps the story right around your brain, and consumes you.
This story is a vampire story, in case you didn’t grasp that from the title. But she adds so many different elements and twists that it is unlike any other vampire story out there.

Clearly I'm gonna be the odd one out here I hate it when that happens 😞, but I had a few issues with this book.
The cover is so eye-catching and adorable. There's something about that particular, whimsical style that I just vibe with. That and the corny, cheeky title were what initially drew me in. The blurb was also super intriguing and put me right in the mood for some lively paranormal romance.
Here's what didn't work for me: the pacing. The book delivered in everything the synopsis promised, but it was done in such a way that I found really awkward and clumsy. Everything happened SO FAST. If forced to guess I'd have to say all the events of this title happened in a time frame of under a week. And with all of the ambushes, dangerous situations and life-altering revelations, that's saying something. It'd be more than any ordinary person could emotionally handle.
There's quick paced and then there's rushed, and while this story strived for the first one, I felt like it ultimately ended up veering in the second direction. Maybe that was because of how much needed to be squeezed into under 200 pages? I don't know. All I know is that the pacing didn't work for me.
And between that and the somewhat repetitive writing, I found it hard to connect to the characters and story. So the big revelations and moments of high emotional impact didn't really hit for me. Same with the romantic side: because of how rushed and predictable it was (and here I'll clarify that predictable is not always necessarily bad, even if it was in this instance) I had a hard time rooting for them. The blurb talked about a "Forbidden Romance" but those weren't at all the vibes I got. Willa and Killian literally hit no bumps nor had to struggle in the least to be together. No one even so much as looked funny at them.
I didn't much care for the two best friends either. They felt very two dimensional and flat. Forgettable. There was nothing unique or distinctive about them. Especially Finnick; he was your stereotypical sassy, slutty gay character, except he was pansexual. More backstory and fleshing out would have been greatly beneficial to them.
But one thing I did really like was how detailed and well thought out the world building was. Sometimes Urban fantasy Paranormal can be tricky. Straddling the line between fantastical and believable is not always easy to do. But I felt this book did a great job of that! It had that magical side while still being firmly rooted in reality. The world made sense to me, and I really appreciated that.
While this book didn't work for me, I seem to be in the VAST minority, so maybe read it and decide for yourself.

I enjoyed this story so much. The characters were funny and unique. Failed witch Willa Farrington loves her bookstore in the vampire run city of Charleston. She has friends and keeps out of the vampires way. Suddenly people are trying to kidnap her and she is put under the protection of Warden Killian Constantine. He is a powerful vampire, not to mention gorgeous. As they try to fend of the would be kidnappers, they can not deny their growing attraction. This was such a great story with lots of surprises and plot twists. I really enjoyed Willa and her friends. They are definitely what every girl needs. Killian is just so much of everything; gorgeous, powerful and a whole lot more. Really looking forward to more stories about this amazing cast of characters.

Willa Farrington is a witch living in a vampire's city running a successful bookshop in town. When one day she is randomly attacked, and somehow ends up summoning the Warden of her city, Killian, they realize they both have a lot more to discover. Willa and Killian must work together to find out the truth behind the attacks, as well as the truth of what is between them.
This is a romance and low-fantasy read that I recommend to all fans of the genre. Pick up for a quick cute read that still gives you all the feels.
Book Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Heat Level: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 ⠀ Willa is a witch But she doesn’t have any powers, and because this the coven has kicked her out. She lives among vampires very comfortably, and runs a quiet bookshop. Until she is kidnapped. Then he whole life is turned upside down. Soon after she meets Killian and the attraction is so unreal she’s not sure how to feel about it. ⠀ One thing I didn’t like was there were a lot of similarities to a show I love, True Blood. The vampire hierarchy, warden, and even the main male protagonist fighting and being turned in the civil war were all the same. The heroine not knowing her true lineage and not knowing about her secret powers, even her instant attraction to the vampire were so similar to that show. And sometimes it made me feel like I was having deja vu. Now I don’t know if this was merely coincidental or not, but it did take away from the story for me some. But in the end it didn’t take away that much, just made me want to watch the show again. ⠀ I liked the plot of the story a lot though, and this was a very fast and fun read. The main characters were very relatable and lovable, but the best friends Finnick and Gwen rounded out the story perfectly. I want them as my friends. ⠀ The romance scenes are definitely not fade to black scenes. They are spicy, fiery, spell out every delicious moment romance scenes. The pet dragon was the best addition ever. He had so many personality traits and quirks similar to me dog that I instantly loved him. The ending was a cute happy ending that left me wanting more.
Hmm, this is a tricky one. Although I didn't necessarily dislike this book, because of some of the decisions the author made in this first instalment, I now have no interest in carrying on with further books.
Let me try to explain without spoilers.
First, let's start with the good bit, the beginning, where I was more than happy and even updated my Goodreads status to say, "Really liking this so far", or something to that effect. It was bright and fun. There was a pet dragon, the beginnings of some nice worldbuilding; the main character seemed cool and interesting (why did she never develop her witchy powers?). There were some awesome, sassy best friends and then whoop-whoop! There was a hot vampire on the scene... What more could this Urban Fantasy mega-fan possibly want?
Well, my problem now seems to be that the author gave me everything I might ever want for this character regarding her powers, her love life and any and all future mysteries surrounding her ALL IN THIS BOOK!
I actually went back on Goodreads because I was sure I must be mistaken, this must be a standalone Paranormal Romance, not book one of an ongoing series and that's why everything was getting wrapped up with a neat bow because there are no more books coming.
But, no. It's definitely only book one of a UF and believe me when I say, literally nothing was left for me to read on for, everything happened, everything was fixed, instalove was done and dusted. The end.
So it will be the end for me, I'm afraid.
What a shame.

The first book in a new series by Stacey Kennedy, What the Fang? follows Willa Farrington, a witch without magic. Banished from her coven years ago, Willa makes her home in the vampire-led city of Charleston. When she is attacked by vampires one night after work, Willa is rescued by the enigmatic and dangerous Killian Constantine, who is a vampire and the Warden of Charleston.
Killian doesn’t know why he could hear Willa’s pleas for help, but after seeing her attack, he suspects Willa’s danger is only beginning. Killian promises to keep Willa safe, but the stakes get higher and more deadly, and shocking revelations change everything. Will Killian be able to protect the witch he’s starting to fall for?
This is such a quick and fun read! I loved the characters and the story, and most especially the romance!! The world-building is also really immersive and intriguing. This is a world where witches and vampires live openly among humans and have created laws and rules to abide by. Though they have reached a tentative peace, power-hungry, blood-thirsty, and vengeful beings threaten to destroy everything leaders have worked so hard to create. Willa and Killian are drawn into many dangerous and potentially deadly situations, and they must figure out how Willa’s past relates to what is happening to her in the present.
Willa is a great protagonist, and I really enjoyed her character’s journey. She is strong and resilient, and though she’s led a difficult life of tragedy and eventual rejection, she maintains a great outlook. And Killian is a dreamy hero! I love a dark, mysterious, brooding love interest who is tender and loving underneath. That’s Killian! A powerful vampire and right hand to the leader, Killian has a reputation and is feared and respected by everyone. Of course, he’s much different when with Willa, as he lets her see past his stoic and intimidating façade.
The romance between Killian and Willa is fast-building and filled with chemistry. The sparks really fly with these two, and it’s pretty clear they have a connection from the start. Willa and Killian have great banter, and I love how they confide in and trust each other. The story also highlights some amazing friendships, and I really enjoyed this aspect of the novel. The found family element is strong, both in Willa’s and Killian’s lives, and there are some wonderful messages about friendship, family, and love. And Willa’s dragon is the cutest, fiercest, little protector, and I need one of my own! He was such a sweet and fun addition to the story, and I love the connection he has with Killian. So cute!
What the Fang? is a great story for readers who enjoy paranormal romances with mystery, humor, suspense, great characters, and a few plot twists to keep you on your toes. Thanks so much to the author and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
Spooky Season is definitely more of a mentality than an actual time of year, and this book shows just why that is! This is a fun and flirty read — with all sorts of wicked deliciousness.
Stacey Kennedy does a wonderful job of getting you into the world and catching you up on its mythology and happenings quickly. The rest of the book is tightly written, and, while the dialogue and characterization is abundant, nothing ever feels excessive. All the scenes are set well — without ever diving into over-loquaciousness. Perhaps the best part of the book is how, these 198 pages, you really grow to care about the characters; they’re vibrant and quirky and real. Plus, there’s a miniature-sized pet dragon, which, alone, is worth the price of admission.
As much as I was loving where things were going in this book, it almost felt like the end came too soon and surprised even the author. The climax felt a little fast, and the romance felt a tad overwrought (mostly in relation to its depth). Still, this book is an engaging and quick read, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how this book develops into a whole series. The first book has already cast a spell on me!
Special thanks to NetGalley and Stacey Kennedy for proving me with an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
The cute cover really catches the eye. This is a fun, fantasy, paranormal romance and the first in a new series. The author creates a world where witches and vampires freely live in the open. Willa Farrington is a witch with no powers. She is banished from her coven after failing the Summer Solstice Rite. Moving to Charleston, one of the three cities that vampires control, she opens a successful bookstore. One night after closing she is attack and somehow telepathically calls for help. Killian Constantine, the city Warden answers her cry of distress.
Together they try and figure out who is after her and why she can communicate with him. This leads to revelations about her past and a big show down. I love little touches of humor, especially Ambrose, her runt pet dragon. This is playful, exciting and steamy fun in a paranormal world. I predicted a few things but was surprised by others. I am new to the author and enjoyed the world she created. I'm not a huge paranormal reader but will eagerly look forward to the next in the series. Readers who enjoy witches and vampires will want to read this. Thank you NetGalley, Xpresso Book Tours and Stacey Kennedy (the author) for an eARC in exchange for an honest review. (4.5 stars)
Alright, so I’ve mentioned before that I am not a “judge a book by its cover” kind of reader. That’s still true, but I have to confess that certain covers catch my attention and one of those types of covers include the cute cartoony ones. Ridiculous I know, but it is what it is. So, when I saw this one I couldn’t resist checking it out. The story is just as cute as the cover suggests, but there’s a lot more to Willa and this story than the cover reveals.
There are a lot of twists and turns in What the Fang and it turns out that nothing is quite what it seems and at times it’s hard to figure out who Willa should trust. One thing she does know is that someone is after her, she just has to figure out exactly who and more importantly why. She’s also determined to keep those she cares for safe, whether they like it our not.
I adored the story, I loved the supporting characters as well as Killian and Willa, the romance was as heated and intense as it was sweet, the action never really slowed down and as a bonus, the story included an adorable dragon. ❤ The only issue that I had was that the world building seemed to come in spurts. All things considered, that was minor because I really liked where this story ended up and the fact that there’s obviously more to come made it even better. Needless to say, taking a chance on that cute little cover paid off and I can’t wait for the Undead Ever After series to continue.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of What the Fang. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I read a PNR book once in every full moon and boy was this a fun and exciting read. Willa was such an easy character to fall for. Her life has been one misfortune after another and things were finally looking up when fate decided to give her some more problems to solve. Enters Killian who is suspicious but senses that she is in danger and is determined to keep her safe. The attraction is instant and falling in love seemed so easy for them.
Since this is book 1 I have a feeling there is so much more for us left - like seeing her dragon help her maneuver her powers, her being able to manage all the power she acquired now and everyone else trying to help her to keep peace between humans and supernatural creatures

Ever since reading The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling last October, I’ve been hunting down other lighthearted Halloween romances to fill the void. If you were a fan of that book, you will be a fan of What the Fang? by Stacey Kennedy!
I enjoyed that this paranormal romance was sweet and heartfelt and packed a lot of plot packed into a relatively short number of pages. The ending tied things up nicely while still allowing an open door for the sequel (Oh Fang!, due out December 2022). Killian was the mysterious, protective love interest we love to see in romances like these — brooding on the outside, warm and gooey on the inside. The supporting characters added nice substance and dimension to the story (special shout-out to Ambrose, the adorable puppy-like dragon who stole the show — and my heart — on several occasions).
A couple of minor gripes: there were a number of info dumps that stalled the momentum of the plot. This information could have been woven in a lot more seamlessly or even eliminated entirely. I appreciate when an author respects the intelligence of their audience’s ability to infer information (like, for example, when explaining dragons as pets — I easily understood Ambrose was like a dog from the way he behaved; the whole backstory about dragons in Romania seemed unnecessary to me). The spice was a little generic for my tastes and the romance seemed almost secondary to the central plot, but these are mostly personal preference things.
I’m also not convinced by the book’s title. With a title like “What the Fang?”, I expected this to be more like a rom-com, poking fun at itself and with more humor peppered through the plot. While the story was mostly lighthearted, there was enough gravitas that the cheeky title didn’t match up with the tone of the storytelling.
Overall, I enjoyed this lovely little romance for some sweet Halloween fun in January. Recommended for readers who want a soft introduction to paranormal romance or who like their fantasy balanced with some sweetness.
Avisada quedas
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC of What the Fang by Stacey Kennedy. I’ve voluntarily read and reviewed this copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was such a fun and good read! In What the Fang we meet Willa, a witch who hasn’t come into her powers yet and is living a quiet life running a bookshop in a town run by vampires. One night Willa is attacked and then saves by Killian, the Warden of Charleston. Wanting to learn more about this mysterious attack, Willa and Killian embark on a journey together to figure out who is trying to hurt Willa.
Listen, if you put vampires and witches, great characters, amazing banter and a mysterious attacker all in the same book there is nothing I can do other than devour it in one or two sittings. I’ve enjoyed this book thoroughly from the first page to the end.
I loved the premise. The story is build up really well. The characters are great and have amazing chemistry with each other. The build up and reveal of the mystery element is done really well. Stacey Kennedy’s writing lures you in and keeps you hooked till the end. The ending was very satisfying and plants a few seeds for further installments.
I can’t wait to read more about the adventures that Willa and Killian will go on. Can I have the next book immediately please?!
You’d think all the action happening in such a short time would be exciting, but it wasn’t, not really.
Willa is a witch without a coven. She was expelled after she failed the Summer Solstice Rite. The city of Charleston, home to the vampires, welcomed her and her witchy bookstore. Her life floated along quietly and without any ripples, until one day some vampires tried to abduct her and her cries for help were heard by the Warden of Charleston. Killian had no idea why he could hear Willa’s voice in his head, but he intended to get to the bottom of it all. Together they set out to uncover all the mysteries.
What the Fang packs quite a lot of story into its shorter length. A lot of things are happening with almost no respite in between and not a lot of time to really get to know the characters. Willa fell in with Killian with no issues. And everything seemed to come easy to them too. There was always a handy explanation for what was going on, or a handy vampire in the vicinity with just the right skills to solve whatever needed to be solved. And everyone was so nice! Even the bad guys didn’t have me shivering in my boots or at least shaking my fist at them.
I’m sorry, but I just wasn’t that invested in Willa and Killian and I’m pretty sure I rolled my eyes quite a bit too.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
*I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.*
I do not typically read fantasy but I loved this book. It is Vampire Diaries meets Twilight in the best way. In this book, Stacey Kennedy created an alternate reality for the United States where vampires and humans can co-exist. Vampires signed a peace treaty with the U.S. government and have full jurisdiction in Charleston, SC, Savannah, GA, and New Orleans, LA. I thought this was an interesting concept - vampires living in historically haunted cities. Humans tend to stay away from these cities for obvious reasons.
Willa Farrington is a young witch who flunked out of training before receiving her powers. She lives in Charleston, SC which is full of vampires. There are still unresolved issues between vampires and witches but they generally accept her. She owns a book shop there. All is well until she is attacked by a group of vampires. She must face the truth about herself and her family.
I liked learning about the witch and vampire customs in this book. In some fantasy books, it is hard to follow along with all of the unfamiliar terms. The author did a wonderful job laying out the world in this book.
The book is just under 200 pages. I wish it was longer so I will definitely be reading the sequel when it comes out.
Special thanks to the author for providing an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. 3.5 stars rounded up!
This was a fun and light paranormal romance that I really enjoyed reading! For a book that's less than 200 pages, this had a lot going on, from a steamy 'fated' romance, vamp attacks and abductions, mysterious elvish powers, and witchy subterfuge. There's also a wee dragon that loves cuddles and he was entirely too adorable with his spunky attitude and puppy-like play! What the Fang? is one of those books that I would recommend picking up if you're simply looking for a purely entertaining read—it's one that you don't have to think much about and can happily consume in the span of a few hours, which is what I did and it was exactly what I was looking for!
The book is set in an alternate world where vampires and witches have outed themselves and now live amongst humans, and although I don't read a lot of PNR, I found the characterisation of vampires and witches to be familiar enough for me to not be surprised. Although many elements of the plot are quite convenient and the twists are predictable, that didn't lessen my enjoyment of the read! However, I will say that if you're looking for extensive world-building and well-developed characters, this probably won't be the read for you!
Willa is a witch without powers and after being banished from her coven for failing the Summer Solstice rite, she relocates to one of the three vampire-ruled cities, Charleston, to run a bookstore and live a quiet life with her pet dragon, Ambrose. Willa is sassy, a dedicated friend, and I really liked her! Willa experiences a lot of exciting and shocking twists and turns throughout the story, but she never lets it knock her down. There were one or two moments that I became irritated with some of the choices she made but for the most part, she was pretty sensible for someone who had her life turned upside down. I adored her two vampire besties, Finnick and Gwen, and they had me cackling with glee with their cheeky banter and sass.
Then there's Charleston Warden, Killian, a sexy, smouldering and powerful vampire who comes in all 'dark-knight' like to the rescue. Amidst all the upheaval, Killian is one of the steadfast and grounding forces that keep Willa going and I really liked his presence by her side, and though he comes to her rescue (often), he doesn't step in to make her decisions for her or tell her what to do. The romance was extremely insta-love and while I'm not one for that trope, I somehow find myself a little more forgiving with the trope when it comes to PNR because of the whole fated mates, destined lovers, or as was the case here, 'Gemina Flamma', or twin flames, thing. Willa and Killian do have some great chemistry and the tension between them built up well. Also, I don't know why I didn't expect it but this was surprisingly steamy! 🥵
Overall, this was a really fun and quick read. Many of the elements are tied up quite neatly by the end of the book but the main conflict hasn't been resolved, so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what happens next!
**Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this ARC. I'm providing my honest review willingly.**
The only complaint I could have about this book was that it was only 198 pages long - much too short when it was such a wonderful read! Despite its page length, what Stacey Kennedy set out to show in this book was wrapped up by the final page, with the promise of more to come in the next installment later this year.
I loved everything about this book. From the first line of the book I was hooked, and both characters and plot were written in a way that was engaging and addictive. I knew as soon as Willa described Killian on first look that I'd be hooked on him for the rest of the novel. As someone who read a lot of vampire novels as a teen, there's nothing better than the broody, stoic vampire who turns out to have a heart of gold and a willingness to protect and care for those he loves. After all these years, I was sucked into this world (pun intended) and thoroughly enjoyed the magic, the fangs, the witty puns (I will now proceed to say "what the fang" and "oh fang" in casual daily conversation), and delightful desire throughout this book.
Did I mention Willa has a dragon? No? Well, I have now, and if Killian didn't cement my interest, Ambrose certainly did. I loved all the elements that made this book both wholesome with the need for Willa to find her place in the world and a darker underlying threat around magic and power. The author executed this balance with ease, and not a page felt dull or unneeded. The characters, Ambrose included, all helped this story along and felt like more than just plot markers, which impresses me that Kennedy achieved this with such a little page count. I also liked the twists along the way and was pleasantly surprised to be proven wrong by which family member was pulling the strings.
The romance between Killian and Willa was believable, even if their connection was quick. That comes down to a part of the plot that predictably comes through in the end, but I still felt their need for the other palpable and real. The steamier scenes were tastefully written and placed well within the book.
What the Fang? isn't life-altering, but what I expected coming into this novel was checked off with such wit and skill by the end of the read that it is an easy 5 stars from me.
Thank you to Stacey Kennedy and Social Butterfly PR for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Alright, first off, let's talk about how absolutely adorable this cover is! I am in love with it and am so excited for the upcoming covers (and stories) in the series.
With that out of the way, I want to say that I loved this book. It was a quick read that was just right for what I was looking for. It wasn't heavy and had just enough Fantasy elements to make my little Fantasy loving heart happy. With a great cast of characters, a swoon worthy warden and the cutest little dragon, this is a great story to lose yourself in.
Willa, a magic-less witch owns a bookstore in the Vampire city of Charleston and has recently come under attack from unknown vampires. Enter, Killian... Warden of Charleston and all around powerful, sexy Vampire. Their interactions grew from friendly to chemistry induced moments in a great progression. This particular story explores Willa, her past, present and future all while incorporating a modern world where Vampires no longer hide and have reached a treaty with humans.
Finnick and Gwen were such great side characters and I hope to see a lot more of them in future books. Ambrose stole the show each time he was in the picture, a little dragon with the mentality of a puppy 🥰I need one of my own! I'm so happy I was able to read this story and it will be added to my shelf in the near future.
Even though it's part of a series, the cliffhanger at the end will not drive you crazy waiting and wondering. It leaves you excited for what's to come! Stacey Kennedy created a great first book in the Undead Ever After series so check it out when it releases January 25th!
f you are looking for a quick, spicy paranormal romance with vampires that can fly, witches & a really good story, look no further than What the Fang? By Stacey Kennedy. The main character Willa Farington has a bookstore & a pet dragon named Ambrose! Need I say more?? It was super fast-paced, full of action & showcases so much love with epic friendships, drama-filled family & a spicy new relationship. I appreciated that her handsome vampire is an alpha male that wants to fix everything & help the heroine but he asks her what she wants/needs & allows her to choose how things are handled. I thought the premise of their world & history was very interesting. Humans are aware of the existence of vampires & witches but because of their tumultuous history, with vampires & their need to feed, humans are leery. They’ve come to an agreement that there are three designated vampire cities which are Charleston, New Orleans & Savannah. Because it was short, it ended really quickly but I loved how it came together & I can’t wait to hear what happens next!! December 2022, hurry up please! *Massive thanks & appreciation to NetGalley & Stacey Kennedy for giving me the opportunity to read this awesome book!!
Extra details that I loved about the story: Instead of taking one’s pet outside to go to restroom, she has to let him out to go fly! I was so amused by that. “For fang sakes” is used, which I found clever.
This was actually rather surprising. I was expecting a cute romance between a witch and a vampire but you get so much more!
Willa is the only witch in a vampire driven town. She loves her two vampire best friends, her bookshop and her pet dragon. That is until she is targeted by other vampires and the warden of the town protects her.
This novel has humour, romance, “oh shit moments” and felt so bad for the mc. It has spice and just everything you want in a novel.
I really liked how quick and easy it was and could be such a good starter to low fantasy.
I really loved the characters, and may have found myself a new book boyfriend because killian is just 🥵
This was a little predictable at times and I did have to roll my eyes a few odd times but I throughly enjoyed this novel. I did get accepted this the day it was published but I smashed it and read it throughout the day, including in between work and napping.
I cannot wait for the next one already! I’m really looking forward to what the next one will bring!
Thank you negalley and the publishers for allowing me to read the arc of this book!!
This book is the perfect balance between fantasy, wholesome characters and spicy romance. "What the fang" tells the story of a witch without powers who lives in a vampire city with her cute cat-dragon (he reminded me so much of my little demon cat). She owns a bookshop (my dream job) and lives a quiet life until vampires start attacking her.
I really enjoyed all the characters, Willa is a joyful character that doesn't dwell on the fact that she is powerless and just enjoys her calm life. Her vampire friends are super fun and wholesome and I even liked the love interest. Being a short book the pacing is a bit fast but it doesn't feel rushed as it keeps the same rhythm throughout the whole narrative. Even though the plot twists were a bit predictable it's like a Disney movie: you kinda know the ending but you're enjoying so much the journey that you are just going with the flow and letting yourself have fun.
I will definitely pick up the sequel but I'm happy this doesn't end in a cliffhanger!
I want more! This book was great - it’s on the shorter side, but still really well written with nice characters and an interesting plot. Due to the length there were some things I would’ve liked to be explained in more detail or simply talked about more. E.g. the whole ancient power mystery part, was over way too quickly. I would’ve loved to read more about it.
The characters are all lovely - main and side characters - and I would love to see more from everyone in book 2. Ambrose was just adorable and I loved the attraction between Killian and Willa. Even though their feelings developed quite fast it wasn’t insta-love and I could still feel a development.
All in all this was a fun and entertaining paranormal/ urban fantasy set in our modern world, but with a different history. I didn’t feel like I was missing information, everything was well explained and it was a nice mix of action, mystery and romance. Looking forward to book 2! :))
I was very excited by the blurb and the cute cover. This sounded exactly like something I would enjoy reading and I was very excited in the beginning but after a few chapters it started to fall flat for me.
While the word building throughout the book was well done, the pacing really confused me and took me out the story at multiple points. Everything felt very rushed, especially Willas relationship with Killian. In the blurb we are told about their forbidden romance, to then have them become a couple super fast and without much discussion at all, while absolutely nobody bats an eye. Her father completely ignores the relationship and never even comments on it? And her 2 friends only ever support her. There is no angst, nor any build up in their relationship at any point. How is it forbidden if neither of them struggle with their attraction, nor anyone around them?
Outside of the romantic aspect Willa also just excepts everything that is thrown her way in this story immediately. Her being threatened and having to be protected, her attraction to Killian, finding out who her father is, being betrayed by her aunt, to receiving her powers and getting her mum back. She feels the emotions for 2 sentences, before immediately excepting them and moving on. The same with other characters, her friends are being tortured by her aunt, to come back 2 scenes later and not even mentioning it.
Her best friends also felt very one dimensional, like they only served the purpose of being there for her whenever she needed them. But outside of being fun, quirky and loyal to her, there wasn’t any depth to them. They just seemed to wait around for her to send a text message and both of them show up immediately?
I was also confused that Willa listened to an Ed Sheeran song at one point, is this not set in a different, paranormal world where a whole war between humans and supernatural beings happened? And we still have Ed Sheeran? And Willas is selling books from authors like Patterson?
Overall this set up could have been really great, but I sadly didn’t enjoy the execution. I seem to be in the minority with this opinion, so maybe give it a try for yourself.
Thank you to netgalley for the copy (I am leaving a voluntary review) but this was a miss for me.

"What the fang" is a shortish supernatural novel, telling the story of Willa and Killian.
We meet our heroine - Willa, in her small bookstore, a few hours before a disaster happens, and she is attacked. However, during this attack, she calls out to the master vampire of the city - Killian, who, of course, like the knight in the shining armour saves her.
Later, they start an adventure, searching for the cause of the attack, and for the person who might've ordered it. During this, secrets unfold, and Willa learns that she had been lied to her whole life.
If you want to learn what those secrets are, you shall read this book.

Jesus, this book was boring. Or at least I found it boring.
The writing was good, but something was missing, and it was not the fact that nothing happened, cause a lot did. And I think this could be part of the problem. I read and so many things happened in such a short book that most of them left me confused at the end. I think more has to be written, and the scenes should be expanded.
The idea of the book was wonderful, and I tried so hard to fall in love with it, but I just couldn't.
The characters, in my opinion, were pretty bland and flat. In neither Willa nor Killian, I could see anything interesting or something worth mentioning. It was like they just existed, didn't have any highlighted personalities. So in this department, the author needs to work on (a better character arc).
It is mainly fantasy, and I couldn't feel any genuine romance. Yes, he called her amore, but there was only that. Words and fucking, no doings.
But as I often say, you can have a totally different experience reading this book, and end with a completely different opinion. Unfortunately for me, this book is only two stars.
I have enjoyed a few books by Stacey Kennedy and was super curious when I found out the author had a new paranormal book coming out. As all my prior reads from the author have been contemporary, I was eager to experience a paranormal read from the author. Fortunately, this one hooked.
I’ll be honest and say I was a wee bit tentative at first, as things seemed to move a little too quickly with everything being explained too easily. It felt a little rushed, and it left me worried that I would not be sucked in as deep as I had hoped. Once things were moving, however, I found myself falling deeper for the story and the characters. I confess that there were some elements I would have liked to have seen explored a little more, but it was not enough to remove my enjoyment of this one. There were plenty of elements involved, ensuring I could not put it down, and my enjoyment increased the more I read.
All in all, this was a wonderful introduction to the author’s paranormal work. I’m not quite sure where the Undead Ever After series will head after this one – I hope we get stories for the other characters – but I am eager for more.
What the Fang? is a laugh out loud fantastic paranormal read. I loved this one so much. You are going to be thrown into the world of vampires and witches as you get to know Killian and Willa. Willa is the cast-off witch who never got her powers with a loveable dragon pet. Killian is an older vampire and Warden of Charleston. You are going to fall in love with this book so hard. I love the chemistry between Willa and Killian as they discover the reasons behind Willa not having her powers and the pull between the two of them. Killian is so swoony. Willa is sweet and will have you giggling. I could not get enough of this and cannot wait for more Undead Ever After. This whole read put a smile on my face. You need to one click this fun read today.
I enjoyed learning about Willa, Killian, and both of their pasts. Throw in Ambrose, Willa’s tiny dragon, and her bestest friends, Gwen and Finnick, this was a great story.
You just never knew what Finnick is going to say and Gwen was a true best friend to Willa. They both have Willa’s back until bad things start happening around Willa and then Killian is called to help her. Other people join Willa and Killian in the search to discover what is going on and in the process Willa discovers who she truly is.
I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.
