Kelpies have come to Savannah, Georgia. The shape-shifting water spirits are on the hunt for a legendary hero, an alpha with the ability to end the curse that forces them to feast on human flesh. When Vivienne Griffin arrived in the city, she had no idea that such nightmarish creatures existed and that they would soon have a personal vendetta against her. In her pursuit of wedding plans and a beautiful future, she finds herself at the mercy of the kelpies, a group of kelpie hunters called the Comhlan, and a stunningly handsome, too-good-to-be-true entrepreneur named Riley Slade. Will Vivienne escape the wrath of the water horses? Will she find a way to end the curse? Or will she fall prey to the hunger of the Kelpie?
This book is incredible! Starting out with a murder, it never slows down! I love the spin the author has put on the lore of Kelpies! It is evident throughout the entire book just how passionate she is about these creatures and their story and how much she loves the characters she has created. I can definitely tell which parts the author was most excited to write and how much she poured her heart into the lore of the Kelpies. The writing in the book was a tiny bit choppy. There were certain portions that would suddenly change POVs in the middle of the page with no warning and then almost immediately switch back to the original POV. The characters are also very interesting. The story follows the female protagonist, Vivienne, as she moves to a new town just before her wedding. Side characters are introduced thoughout the book, almost all of them are men. There are only three other female characters in the entire book. Although I found this unusual, I thought the author portrayed the relationships Vivienne had with the various male characters really well. It was evident which character was the love interest and which would develope into close friends. Honestly, I found the character dynamic between all of these close friend characters really pleasant. Ashley Chapman does a wonderful job of portraying a healthy, non-romantic friendship between a man and woman. Now the love interest dynamic of the book! Oh. My. Goodness! The love interest aspect kept me guessing and on the edge of my seat the whole time! And when it finally came to fruition, I had the close the book and squeal for a minute!! I don't want to give anything away, but THE LAST THREE PAGES!!!!!!!!!!
Overall, I wonderful read! I will definitly recomend for anyone who loves mythology and Irish lore!
What an amazing new and unique world of Kelpie’s and Scottish lore set in Georgia! This isn’t your regular horse but it’s an absolutely beautiful dark creature in this book. The MFC is a little naive and innocent in the beginning but when her path crosses with the Kelpies that all changes. She becomes strong, fearless, shows compassion, and becomes the one person to ever show Kelpies respect and love. She befriends one who plays a major role in her journey along with our mysterious Alpha and billionaire that seem to have a bond with the MFC. There will be more to uncover and a war ahead in the next book from what I can gather. I cannot wait to dive deeper into this world🖤
Wealthy southern people have nasty holier than thou attitudes whenever someone faces controversy…this is an underlying truth among the Comlem. This group’s members are descendants of a people who persecuted Kelpie’s and cursed them to eternal damnation. As with any influence, there are certain individuals that find the power to overcome. This is their story. Vivienne is their human representative. She believes that all creatures deserve empathy and the chance to be redeemed.
The writing was very descriptive but still moved at a good pace. I was able to get lost in the story and am hoping to see even more action in the sequel!
This was such an unexpected read for me but I enjoyed this book a lot! I read a majority (90%) in one sitting and saved the ending for today and was very upset to see it ended on a cliffhanger but one I was secretly rooting for! Absolutely recommend this book!
I purchased this book on Amazon, looking for something different to read and found this story "KELPIE" fun at times and fairly well written. As I got further into the story, I found myself waiting, waiting for the plot and the flow to pull me in, but that was not the case for me.
