I really enjoyed this story about a teenager who is bullied at school because of his weight. Things turn dark when someone makes him an offer he can’t refuse. I felt for the main character with all he was dealing with and the author did a great job with conveying his emotions in this short story. The ending was fantastic!
He didn’t want the mirror to defog, because he didn’t want to see himself again; he only wanted to look if the person in the mirror was a fraction of himself and not the abomination he thought he saw mere moments before.
Brandon is severely depressed. He has gained a lot of weight, and it’s gotten even worse since his father passed away.
Brandon endures brutal teasing and bullying in high school. He is constantly hassled about his weight—particularly his “man boobs.” His medications increase his appetite.
Brandon’s mother works a lot of hours to provide for the both of them, especially since they’re now a single-income household.
The voice from the darkness…the man…the visions…He knows so many things. A deal is struck.
The three wishes…the head…
Well, damn. That’s one vicious ending.
“Now, little one, I was only trying to help. Do you still want my help?”
