The 90s Flashback Series Box Set: 1996, 1997, & 1998

1996

When food blogger Anna Matthews takes a vitamin supplement that thrusts her back in time to 1996—and into her sixteen year old body—she is naturally a little shocked. But after a hasty re-assimilation, she decides to take advantage of this amazing second chance to view her teenage years from a more mature perspective.

But with the effectiveness of each dose only lasting twelve hours, and any new actions initiated in the past having no effect on the future, Anna wonders whether taking it again would serve any purpose.

Of course, curiosity gets the better of her, and she soon becomes addicted to travelling back in time to relive what she originally believed to be some of her best memories.

Knowing that her husband grew up in the same area—and with him unwilling to talk about the past—Anna decides to track him down in 1996. But an unexpected discovery forces her to make a heartbreaking decision that will change both her and her husband’s future forever.

1997

Anna Matthews is moving on. After a tumultuous year where her life took an unexpected turn, she is now looking to the future with the help of a few old friends.

Everything gets off to a great start with Anna and her high school friend Kelsey planning a new business together. And along with the emotional support of her sister Amy and acquaintances Rachel and Jackson, Anna’s life is almost back to normal.

However, a bizarre night out with Rachel leaves Anna craving the company of a certain charismatic sales assistant she met in 1996. But when she unpacks the box she thought contained the time-travelling compound that can take her back to him, it is nowhere to be found.

Will Anna be able to track down the missing jar? Or will she finally have to accept a future without someone who means so much to her?

1998

Anna finally has it a gorgeous partner, a successful business, and the best friends a gal could ask for.

But just when she thought she’d finally achieved her happily ever after, she finds herself alone again.

Kurt, her soulmate, is leaving the country for three whole months—and while he’s gone, he's given her some serious decisions to consider. Anna must rely on her support network—plus her trusty time-travelling compound—to get her through.

However, soon after Kurt's departure, Anna's ex-husband makes a reappearance—and until she finds a way to banish his demons, neither of them can move forward.

But once she tackles that problem, a worse one arises.

Could the secret she uncovers derail the life she’s worked so hard towards?

Time travel has a lot to answer for.

Definitely worth the read

I couldn't put it down (well, except to sleep and even that was hard). This book shows you how the universe drops hints like anvils and that true love does exist, even if you have to wait over 20 years to find it. If you're questioning reading, don't. You won't regret it!! It'll help you feel hopeful again, at least it did me as I'm also going through a divorce and trying to find myself again. Great job Kirsty!!

The unusual path to happily ever after.

At the start I wasn’t sure I was going to enjoy this series. But the story kept growing & building & getting better & better. Even with the strong wrap up ending of book three, I still want more. Only because I have become so attached to these characters.

These books were a little different than my normal choice to read, but I highly recommend. I will be reading more from this author.

A fun read but…

It just wasn’t exactly what I was expecting when I read the synopsis. Overall, the entire series was entertaining and loved the interwoven stories but I guess I was hoping for a bit more nostalgia when reading the characters being back in the late 90’s. There is a chance that it didn’t connect with me completely, since the setting was in Australia and not the USA, but still worth a read. It would make for a fun TV series.

The 90s Flashback Series Box Set is a fun, heartfelt, and nostalgic journey that blends time travel with romance, friendship, and personal growth. Kirsty McManus captures the charm of the 1990s while exploring the choices that shape our lives and the relationships that define us.

Anna is an engaging protagonist whose return to her teenage years is both entertaining and emotionally meaningful. As the story unfolds across the three books, the series balances humor, romance, and heartfelt moments while asking thoughtful questions about second chances, regret, and the paths we choose.

Filled with memorable characters, nostalgic details, and an addictive time travel premise, The 90s Flashback Series Box Set is an enjoyable read for fans of contemporary fiction, romance, and stories that celebrate the possibility of new beginnings.

Interesting read

I like the idea of time travel and that if things were meant to be then it will happen. When she visited her Grandma I felt like I wish I could have the serum to visit my grandma. I felt quite jealous as I would love to time travel like the character in the book and as I was reading it I was remembering the 90s how it was for me.

I enjoyed these books. I'm a huge fan of the 90s and enjoyed the idea of time travel. The pop culture references made me chuckle. It was an easy read, and not too heavy. I loved Anna's character. It made me reflect on the people that were important to me in high school but I've lost track of as an adult and what could happen if things had turned out differently.

time travel

I loved this book. I don't know if I'd want to go back in time if I could and I've always been fascinated by time travel stories. I always get so tied up trying to wrap my mind around the logistics of the stories. The Time Travelers Wife really had me wound up. This story wasn't like that. It was just an enjoyable read all the way through.

Three isn't always a charm

I loved the first two books, 1996 and 1997. The last one not so much. The story made me think if I would go back to my teen years and find out about the people around me. It's very entertaining and it was almost a five stars.

Loved this series! So cute, lighthearted and made me feel like I was living my teenage years again 😂. My only complaint is that the series ends at 3! because I loved these characters so much and didn't want to say goodbye!

At first I wasn't so sure but thought this book was executed well. I wish there was a compound that took me back to see my dad and grandparents.... But also made me think of all the deja vu moments.

Absolutely brilliant

Thank you

I devoured this book!!!! Such an interesting concept. If you could go back in time to your teen years would you? And if you could go back, how would it effect your future?

Anna was such an amazing character and when the books ended, I was sad to leave her character behind!

loved the nostalgia

I loved the flash back to the 90’s. It brought back so many memories. The first two books were my favorites. I was slightly disappointed in the third. It felt forced.

so predictable

Ugh. Although I thought I’d enjoy the flashbacks and fun, I knew exactly what was going to happen, who people were, and why things were going one way or the other throughout the entire series. Unbelievable and annoying.

Books one and two were great by the third one I started to get annoyed by Anna as she was questioning all the things about Kurt and if they should be together plus felt like she was meddling to much in the past

fun!!

I am the same age as the main character, so the idea of being able to go back to my teenage self at the same time as here is very interesting. Fun

Good!

Made me laugh cry and kept my attention. Read all 600 pages in 2 days. Especially good if you were a teenager/young adult in the 90's. Makes you remember the old times.

OMG this series is amazing, I can’t praise it enough! As a woman in her late 30’s going back to 1996 really was like going back to my teen years and all the pop culture references *chefs kiss*

Not my typical genre, but this was a great weekend read. Think Back to the Future crossed with When Harry Met Sally. I definitely didn't want to put down these great reads!

Loved it! Quick, fun read. I love time travel pieces and if I could go back in time, it would definitely be the 90’s. This book had me laughing out loud in some areas and was very touching in other areas. This book goes in my top faves.
