The voice in Margy's head was always loud and 'You are not worthy, who would want you?' After struggling with anxiety and depression during her formative years, Margy turned to alcohol to self-medicate and quieten her inner turmoil. Through two failed marriages and fractured relationships, a teaching career spanning thirty-two years, and two children, Margy finally kicked the wine witch to the curb and found her own voice. I Am Enough is Margy's first book and is a deeply personal and raw account of her journey from despair and low self-esteem to self-discovery and joy.
A very honest and thoughtful memoir. I am acquainted with Margy because we are part of an online support group. I'm especially proud of her efforts in life and writing of this book. She is an incredibly talented woman and I hope that she continues to thrive!
Where do I start! Margy certainly wears her heart on her sleeve. The hurt she has suffered throughout her life, both emotionally and physically is evident in this hard hitting biography and this will resonate with many readers. However, she offers a beacon of hope that for all the bad times in life, with strength and courage of mind, you will realise that you are ‘enough’ and deserve your happy ever after just as much as the next person. I wish her every success in sobriety, love and living life to the fullest, a life she completely deserves. Thanks for sharing your strength. I now know I too, am enough.
I felt it was great for Margy to put pen to paper as It would have been quite a challengeing project I admire her for that and I pray that she will be able to keep going forward in the future Best wishes from Pat McLaren
The subtitle emphasizes the recovery arc, and the author's temperament, sexual assaults, and domestic abuse all contribute to and fuel the triad of depression, anxiety, and addiction. But this is also one of the most intriguing, creative, intelligent and determined women out there! From early (and continued) singing career; determination to finish university to be a teacher ; becoming a teacher who valued creativity and diversity; the emphasis and time spent on decorating and maintaining the various homes that the chaotic portions of her life landed her in; the travelling, and the obvious joy in her travels from Australia to UK and Europe; the joy and pride in her two children who seem to have inherited creativity and empathy from their mother: what emerges feels like a story of those flowers that grow from sidewalk cracks, no matter how many feet trod on them or how they have to twist, bend and strive to survive and bloom. Definitely worth a read, and I'm hoping this is the beginning of a new career for this author.
Having come through addiction myself and met the author in person I found this book gave me tremendous hope and strength and a new outlook on my own journey. It is almost as Margy's strength, compassion and zeal for life is transported through the pages of the book and a quite, at times, harrowing story gave me a sense of peace and fulfilment. As I was born the same year I can relate to the musical timeline and many of the references in the book. I would recommend it to anyone in recovery and especially any women who have been through domestic violence.
I listen to the audio of I Am Enough in two days, Margy is one strong lady, I cried and I laughed listening to her battles of addiction, her mental and physical abuse by her partners, but all the way through Margys memoirs she was always trying to please everyone, i wish Margy loads of happiness in her new life of sobriety , one strong, caring, intelligent lady and a great author 👏
This is a brave and honest account of Margy’s struggles throughout her whole life, along with many amazing achievements. She is a strong and resilient woman and this story is so inspirational. Her story is not over, I have no doubt she has many more triumphs to come.
Margy has generously shared her story as a lifeline to those who are battling similar circumstances. Her words are equally apt for family and friends who want to support their loved ones in any way possible. You are enough and you are not alone.
Beautifully written book about the road to recovery and recognition of effects of depression, anxiety and addiction on her life and the lives of those around her. Very readable and thought provoking.
