Thanks to his crew, Geddy escaped the Zelnads' clutches and made a healthy deposit in the Fiz's account. Following a little R&R on Zorr, they're back at it and brimming with false confidence. When a fateful decision leaves a potential ally vulnerable, the Fiz takes a big risk to score some points. But it soon becomes clear the Zelnads are playing 3D chess while Geddy's still trying to get the box open. At the galaxy's biggest trade show, surprising alliances offer hope for actionable intel. But the Zelnads just unleashed their new secret weapon — branding. When a shocking announcement tilts the balance even more in their favor, Geddy and Eli must travel to one of the galaxy's most dangerous worlds to find the only man who can turn the tide. Ship Show: Book 3 of Reassembly continues the fun, rollicking space adventure that all began in Rocket Repo when a kindly alien spore took up residence in the head of an aimless, friendless pilot. If you like high-stakes sci-fi with big themes and a healthy dose of witty humor, you'll love Reassembly .
I write cinematic sci-fi of substance. What does that mean?
My love of writing came from reading, of course, but my love of story really came from movies. Expect smart characters and short chapters that move along at a cinematic pace. I like intricate, plausible stories that reward careful readers without alienating those who just want to kick back and escape this messed-up world for a while.
I currently have two series: Reassembly, a humorous space opera with six books, and a dystopian trilogy, The Cytocorp Saga. I expect to release the first book in a new sci-fi series sometime in mid 2026.
I currently live in Ecuador.
When I'm not writing page-devouring science fiction, you can find me thinking about it.

"Ship Show", Book 3 of author C.P.James' "Reassembly" series is/was* easily my favorite of the group so far (*I have done/did read it). Not that it contained any more of the already cool aliens or other reveals but because the focus was much more and/or better, um, focused? Yeah. Honestly though I just felt throughout that this chapter was - to be blunt - much better science fiction or space opera if that's your preferred label. Sure, James' jokes still tend to a more juvenile slant than I usually embrace and there are some really bad puns floating about like turds in zero G. Come to think of it, that might have been one of them! But we're getting there even if losing our virginity to a girl that eats our molting scales is included. And who doesn't get excited for something like that (double entendres intended)?
My god, it’s like teaching quantum mechanics to a single-celled organism.
What helped the most though was that this time there wasn't a set, or better said, repeating rhythm to the book as a whole. Before we've had the kind of cadence of "visit strange new world, meet up with "old friends", get betrayed and run to next extremely similar shitty situation." However, in this case, the fact that they stayed - not in the same spot, no - but in fewer locales that were given more time to germinate before they turned totally shitty was very welcome. And the fact that we're finally truly and believably starting to connect some of the seemingly more random dots from all that's transpired before is very exciting! Plus coming face-to-face with just about every ghost from our dear Captain Starheart's past was fun as well.
“It gets worse. I am supposed to teach a section of freshman calculus next term.” “My god, their cruelty knows no bounds.”
This let Geddy really stretch his heroic and even emotional muscles as the story continued, not to mention having the entire crew really start to blossom and gel as a true team (group yoga anyone?). For example, the satellite saving scene was pretty darn cool and had easily some of the best true suspense and tension going for it of the series so far. That entire calamity if you will not only helped improve the understanding of many of our main players but was truly a kind of eye-opening experience into what the galaxy is ultimately facing. Plus in other parts of the story along the way, both the Vulcan and the Chinese nods* were quite interesting (and much better handled that the really obvious nod to a certain pod racing event from the last book). *Oops, obviously I mean the Orneans and Xellerans, my bad! Gosh, don't know how I got those confused what with their love of logic and knowledge and focus on mass production at low costs even at the cost of their lower classes actual organic-ness (cue eyeroll emoji).
Everything in fucking space wants to lay eggs in you! Can’t aliens just dig a damn hole in the sand?
And that means - at very least to me - is that what we've got now is a true-blue and maybe even slightly fluorescent space opera going on! The political, military and even historical tables have been set and these last two chapters should be a blast! We've built up our teams, met our heroes, dribbled snot on their shoulders and realized there's a lot of really pretty brutal stuff getting ready to go on out there. Or we'll all just get eaten by mogorodons or ranses and that'll be that. Heck, we can't even rule out skysnakes or flesh-eating tadpoles at this point! So yeah, pretty much everyone and everything is trying to kill each other by the end. So don't worry… be Xoopy (or whatever the hell the next title means)! I'm already calling it "Xanadu" because I'll be damned if I know how to pronounce it!
I can't decide if James is the most satisfying or the most dangerous author in my library.
This book is just like every other of his books: clever and imaginative; very well composed, with character development sparse yet sufficient; plot amazingly solid; and the narrative is compelling.
Unfortunately, the book is like an onion; Teddy usually … well, often triumphs, but always uncovers more evil shenanigans that must be thearted–each more dire than any previous challenge. The result is several months of anxiously waiting for news of the next book.
In each book James manages to introduce new technology, and this one has several great treats. But I'm still anxious about the next book, and haven't even finished the review! Beware!
Things are getting dicey. It looks like war is just around the corner and our team is lost in space. Far too many questions and not enough answers. Book 4 will clear it up. I couldn’t put this story down, solid performer, powerful storyline and entertaining to boot. Read it at the risk of lost sleep. First class read.
I’m so glad I came across this series. There wasn’t a dull moment anywhere in the three books. Action packed with more twists than a Chubby Checker convention. Plenty of humour and the occasional laugh out loud moments. I am really looking forward to reading the next instalment.
Book three is a good addition to the series. It picks up right where book two left off and continues with the mystery and adventure established. There is humor, more like wise cracking, but plenty of it. I would have liked more action and Gel and Oz to develop more of a relationship, plus the other support characters needed more limelight. But overall a good read.
Wondered what was going on in the first book, started to think I had stumbled into a tall tale in the second book, but glad I persisted past the drama, glitz, and `glamour' and got to the meat of the matter in book three. Gotta go... Got a fourth book to get started on...
Geddy and the team return, trying to stop the Zenads from destroying the universe. Good book, that moves at a nice pace, as the team keep getting knocked back and further behind in the race to expose the conspiracy.
Cudos go to CPJames for writing this future fantasy. Liked how he combined the historical facts about NASA and threaded the story line into it. Cannot wait for book 4.
Here the author continues to Fulfill and round out his characters Letting you delve deeply into their personalities and what makes them tick along with it he adds some great action and Characterize humor It's a truly a great book
And of course I'll be buying the next one... This series is the most fun reading I've had in a long time! I'm sure that after this series is finished I'll buy another of his. What better way to see if he moves to the top of my "favorite author" list. 🙂
4.5 stars---4.7? Gets better as it gets weirder. The humor doesn't get in the way of the plot/pacing. Well crafted sci-fi with nothing super deep or hard....that was a very Geddy-like thing to type. ;)
This series is full of surprises and keeps you coming back for more. The story line gets very complicated sometimes and hard to follow but worth the time reading.
