Issued with a new heritage cover, this is a typical J Jackson Bentley thriller, this one based in Orlando with the Theme Parks at the heart of this gripping short story. Rick and Nikki are Vloggers. They mainly vlog about what is happening in the parks but when they start a True Crime Vlog everything changes. Who knew that a serial killer was watching, and waiting. In a short space of time they cease being the pursuers and very definitely become the pursued. Can they avoid an incident? Will they escape the serial killer? When will the Mummy ride re-open? A heart pumping thriller that will place you right in the centre of the action. Filled with humour, action and shenanigans it is the ultimate spring and summer read. Zero Days Without Incident - the title was the most memorable and exciting thing about this book. I found the writing to be clunky and dated. The words didn't flow and each scene felt disjointed. However, the author did well to set the scene with the few words provided. Each character was more unlikeable and unrealistic as the next. I felt as though I was reading the script to a low budget, self produced thriller with bad acting. The twist wasn't a surprise to me, all the signs were obvious if you paid attention to them. Everything was drawn out except the actual reveal which was entirely anticlimactic. Somehow this was both a novel that skipped ahead too fast but was also painfully stunted and slow. This is marketed as a 'tense, psychological thriller' which was misleading. It was only tense in how wooden the interactions were. Did I miss the part where this was a thriller? I did manage to finish this in a few hours so it's a quick read at least. The premise was interesting but unfortunately this was not for me. I'm sure there are many people out there that would enjoy this. I do want to give this author another try as despite not being happy with this book, the ideas were definitely there.
This was really good! I would have read it even if it wasn't, since it featured RixFlix, but was delighted to find out J Jackson Bentley is a good thriller writer. If you're not familiar with Rick, Nikki, Courtney, and Murph this might not be for you. But if you are, don't miss it.
I was delighted to find a new book by J. Jackson Bentley as I thoroughly enjoyed all his others. This is a short book but contains all the excitement of his stories.
This is a novella written by a fan of the YouTube Vloggers Rick and Nikki (real people) from Channel RixFlix and Rix's Road Trips.
This novella was a interesting story to say the least. Things that I liked about it. It was indeed very descriptive in the sections throughout the story. The story was good, even though it was predictable as times. One thing I didn't expect was a piece of the ending, which I will not disclose. I really enjoyed that the author was true to both Rick and Nikki's characters throughout the story. I really felt like you get to know them even more beyond the theme park settings.
One thing that kept taking me out of the story was the back and forth between section about Rick and Nikki, then other sections of Dominic. I really think this could benefit from being a longer piece if that is the route the author wants to take with multiple perspectives. So for that it lost a star. Reading through the story, I felt like at some points it was predictable. I knew that the suspect was going to show up at their house at some point during the story. For that it lost a star.
Overall, I enjoyed the read, it was short 58 pages and easy to read. I say read it for yourself, and see if it is something you like.
