Coiling Dragon #2

Coiling Dragon: Book 2 - Growing Up

Rate this book
Empires rise and fall on the Yulan Continent. Saints, immortal beings of unimaginable power, battle using spells and swords, leaving swathes of destruction in their wake. Magical beasts rule the mountains, where the brave – or the foolish – go to test their strength. Even the mighty can fall, feasted on by those stronger. The strong live like royalty; the weak strive to survive another day.

This is the world which Linley is born into. Raised in the small town of Wushan, Linley is a scion of the Baruch clan, the clan of the once-legendary Dragonblood Warriors. Their fame once shook the world, but the clan is now so decrepit that even the heirlooms of the clan have been sold off. Tasked with reclaiming the lost glory of his clan, Linley will go through countless trials and tribulations, making powerful friends but also deadly enemies.

Come witness a new legend in the making. The legend of Linley Baruch.

This book feels very similar to Harry Potter. It's a good thing. I was able to enjoy it. And the protagonist is awesome as well.

In my view A must read and Highly Recommended Novel. In fact Coiling Dragon and I Shall Seal the Heavens are the best novels brought and translated by WW that got me hooked and addicted to numerous translated Chinese novels. If u have have not read them then start now and enjoy reading them.

Pretty good book about the development, not only of the MC, but of the expanding surrounding cast he gets as he starts meeting people with similar goals to the MC.

I was surprised by the diversity of the supporting cast , as some of the characters he meets and agrees to join would have never occurred to me.

In a slick move we also get some news about other characters in the letters Yale sends to him, and that is great. So when we later in the book change to other characters for a while, we aren't as lost and know a little about what's going on.

The first volume´s main focus was on introducing the world of Yulan to us - now this second volume sets the story into motion and sets up some nice plot points and characters. Especially Bebe is arguably my favourite fictional animal of all time. We get Linley´s first real fight and cool revelation / plot-twist at the end, that I absolutely didn´t see coming. I rated the first volume with four stars, because it was just a good introduction with alot of potentioal. This potential now is slowly but surely unfolding, so I will go with five stars for this book - but, again, rated in its own league, namely "Asian Web Novels".

Picking up the pace

Like much Xianxia written for the Chinese market, this is a serially published story, not a series of traditional novels. This is just the next act. It's improving as it goes. Do recommend.

Pretty good series

Cute and light hearted, reminds me of the earlier Dragon ball episodes. Interested to see how the series develops. I enjoy the price as well.
