“Three men go into a forest...” sounds like it could be the beginning of a joke, but the punch line is far from funny. The trio are going to poach a rare snowdrop in the woods of a Gloucestershire landowner. When the men are discovered trespassing, they panic, and tragedy ensues.
It is snowdrop time in the Cotswolds and Maggie Eliot has her hands full with events at Beaumatin, her husband Thomas’ estate, as well as with her husband, who is grumpy about having to meet the demands of the season.
Then an old friend of Thomas is brutally killed. The police are stymied, so Thomas uncharacteristically joins forces with his wife to identify a murderer. Is it a stranger? One of Beaumatin’s snowdrop tourists? Or someone closer to home?
