Zach Westerbeck is an engaging mental health public speaker, college success coach, and a certified Mental Health First Aid professional with a passion for helping college students and organizations understand the complexities of depression and anxiety in the modern world.

In 2016, he experienced crippling depression and anxiety for the first time in his life. During this time period, he had thoughts of suicide and felt alone, scared, and unsure about his future. He suffered in silence for over a year before finally seeking help. This is why it is his mission to erase the stigma and normalize mental health issues by sharing his story with as many students and corporations as possible. His goal is to make the uncomfortable conversation around mental health comfortable in the hopes that it will save someone's life. Through his personal experiences, certifications, and extensive research, he is able to relate and clearly articulate why now more than ever it is critical to understand how to manage your mental health.

Zach graduated from Purdue University and is a brother of Sigma Chi fraternity. After graduation, he went on to work for Fortune 500 technology giant Cisco Systems. He is the proud founder of Westerbeck Speaking and Coaching Inc., an organization focused on providing hope and resources for recovery for those struggling with their brain health. Zach has partnered with organizations like the Peace of Mind Foundation and One Mind to share his story and free those suffering in silence. He has been featured in Forbes, The Red and Black, CU Independent and Thrive, among others. In addition, he has done interviews and podcast interviews with One Mind, the Peace of Mind Foundation, and the Freddie & Alyssa Show. He has spoken in front of hundreds of students at higher learning institutions and organizations such as Penn State, Chico State, Gamma Alpha Omega, UC San Diego, New York Institute of Technology, Georgia Tech, and University of La Verne, to name a few.

Literally, the book on Anxiety and Depression that the world needs!

Anxiety and Depression see no race, no gender, and no specific generation.

Humans and animals (believe it or not) have been facing these crippling forces since the beginning of time.

If you face these mental and physical challenges, Zach Westerbeck has one major message for you…

You’re Not Alone!

As much as it may feel you are in the midst of battling your anxiety and depression, there are millions of people just like you facing similar challenges and there is help out there for you!

One of my favorite aspects of this book is how Zach smashes the stigma of mental health early in the book and leads with the terminology, brain health.

This easy change allows the reader to frame the guidance they are going to receive as positive growth for their brain!

This book can impact all ages positively, however, if you are a college student, then this is seriously the best book you can read today!

There were definitely moments during my college career where I wish I had the lessons from this book in my daily routine.

Zach is an author, mental health professional speaker, and mental health coach for 18-24-year-olds.

He is helping people who are facing the same anxious challenges he once faced when he was in that age group.

Zach shares helpful techniques that he used personally to create feelings of calm and happiness, regain confidence, slow down racing thoughts, and much more in his book.

You’re Not Alone will teach you powerful mental frameworks, strategies, and techniques to manage life during the age of information and high standards for success.

Zach is an amazing guide and he will be there with you on each page of the book.

If you’d like further help from Zach, he would be glad to assist you. Feel free to reach out to him, as he has amazing programs that build off the book to further your journey to reclaiming who you are and taking back control of your life!

You should totally get a copy or gift it to someone who needs this book the most!

You're not Alone reads like a conversation between the author and the readers. Though the title claims that it is the only book that one would need to overcome Anxiety and Depression, how much it delivers remains to be seen. Overcoming mental illnesses is not a cakewalk. What this book succeeds in doing is, it opens up a conversation around a topic that is to date considered taboo in society, be it the developed world or the developing.

The book is targeted towards readers who are aware of the condition they suffer from, but are unable to or do not want to seek professional help. This approach is unique and provides a fresh take on this issue. The author narrates their journey in dealing with depression and that helps in forming a connection with the audience, which would not have been possible with a third-person narrative. Personal journeys and experiences always make it feasible for the readers to relate and take something away from the story.

It takes courage to write about bad days, to lay bare the vulnerabilities that a person would rather hide from others.

These feelings of being useless, a waste of space, guilty, and worthless are not intentional. It needs to be addressed properly. People need a hearing ear, a coping mechanism to deal with this constant feeling of having no hope.

The coping mechanism in question can be anything, from working out to cleaning one's room, anything to keep the mind occupied, to remain in the present. It might sound easy, but practicing it in real life is far from that.  'You're Not Alone,' does a commendable job of talking about an issue without making it sound preachy. There are no clear-cut formulas to heal, each person has their own method and this book provides a lot to choose from.

Westerbeck did a very good job of making me feel like I am...well...not alone. I've been struggling with anxiety and depression from a very young age, so this book didn't tell me a lot that I didn't already know. But there were certain aspects that he worded in ways new to me that I really liked. Mostly, the fact that he refers to mental health as brain health throughout the book. Brain health has a much more tangible and severe connotation to it, that I think needs to be adopted everywhere, and definitely how I'll be referring to it from now on. He is thorough and, while always reminding us that he is not a doctor and to consult a professional, providing tips and tricks that have helped him personally. For example, he recommends sensory deprivation tanks and acupuncture as forms of relaxation, things I've thought about myself but never tried. I was also reading this book not only as a way to help myself but as a way to help a friend in my life who is struggling with anxiety and depression as well. My friend's symptoms and struggles are fairly new, and I think this book would be tremendously helpful to him in beginning his road to repairing his brain health. So, if you are considering reading this book because you need a starting point, I say you're on the right track. If you are already familiar with anxiety and depression, and the treatment of brain health, I still recommend reading this book, if only to put things in a new perspective. It's also just always comforting to know you are not alone, whether or not this is your first time struggling with brain health. Because... you are not alone!

I'm with you

The first and the last thing you should know is that it is treatable, don't think you're all alone in this world. You've to overcome it day by day. (Telling this from personal experiences)

You need to understand that you don’t need to justify your pain. It’s just as valid as the next person’s. You are allowed to feel however you feel, no matter what. It’s okay to not be okay.

You might think you're stuck with it forever, but

This too shall pass. You were in the darkest place of your life not too long ago and look at you now. This is just another speed bump on the road of life.

Remember, seeking help is always the answer.

Sometimes when you’re in a dark place it feels like you’ve been buried alive. But perhaps, you’ve just been planted, and now is your time to bloom.

I appreciate that this book was able to defy my expectations of a self help book. While at times, yes, it did have the elements of habits of healthy people, but what this book did was to be geared at college students. The examples given were relevant and the healthy habits were geared to the lives of young people. But also this book explained things like therapy in detail that is often not explained and can be very helpful to someone who is considering it an option.

This book is a great resource for young people looking to improve their mental health and make a plan to do so. Although targeted for students and young professionals, I found it a good reminder for adults too on some best practices to have a healthy brain and healthy life.

Its very generic and basic information. It is geared towards college students, and generally people who may just be beginning to feel the effects of depression and anxiety. For someone that has struggled for a long time or has a disorder, this is not for you
