An e-mail correspondence between friends during their simultaneous pregnancies presents an intimate, occasionally hilarious look into the details of their diverse and universal experiences as they laugh, cry, rage, and celebrate their first year as mothers. Original.
Sara is author of The Mommy Chronicles (Hay House, 2005) and The Must-Have Mom Manual (Ballantine/Random House, 2009). Before becoming a mom she was a copywriter. She lives with her husband and two children in Charlotte, North Carolina. Sara is also a cancer survivor.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Two friends become pregnant right around the same time and chronicle their pregnancies through email. One friend lives in Atlanta and the other in Charlotte, so they are never able to get together, but through emails share their experiences. I loved the back and forth emails, it made it a very quick read, easy to pick up and put down as I wanted. Each woman has different experiences (one suffers postpartum depression, another decides to co-sleep with her baby, one breast feeds, another bottle feeds) yet their friendship doesn't become a competition, they are supportive of each other's struggles. It was a great book to read, and I hated to reach the end.
Meh. Particularly skip-worthy, if you ask me. I think it seriously annoyed me that both of these women so bought into the theory that they can do everything all at the same time and nothing will suffer. No one can do that, dum-dums! That's why you were so mad at your husbands the whole book!
