A poltergeist filled with rage. A frightened elf. And a familiar whose life is on the line. Easy peasy, right?
The magical world has caught on that I am the go-to witch for solving supernatural problems. Too bad they have no consideration when I've got my own to deal with.
After returning my ghoul’s soul to her, I should have been on a high. Instead, life slammed my feet back to the ground when my familiar was nearly killed during our visit to Stuleros.
To top that off, Nana has been acting odd. She’s always been sassy and sarcastic. Now she's spewing venom and shutting everyone out. My mom insists she’s coming to terms with Nana being at the end of her life, but I'm not ready to believe that.
With my to-do list firmly in hand, I'm on a mission to get the old Nana back, heal Tarja, and exorcise a poltergeist while saving the elf it was threatening.
What does it say about me that all of this has my blood pumping and my body singing with excitement? Never mind, don't answer that. I'm living my best life and loving every crisis-filled minute no matter what anyone else thinks.
NASTY CURSES & BIG PURSES – Brenda Trim (216) 07/04 DONE 26/04 This is book six of the Mystical Midlife in Maine series and the story starts with Phoebe, the new Pleiades for America, almost losing her familiar Tarja after they travelled to Stuleros in an attempt to bring more familiars to witches in their realm. There are lots of familiar characters around, from her mother Mollie, her daughter Nina, and even her grandmother Amelia, to their resident ghost Nora, Layla the wolf shifter, Selene the ghoul she managed to return her soul to in the last book, Thia (Mythia) the pixie, her best friend Stella, Tsekani the dragon shifter who is getting over the betrayal by lover, to Phoebe’s very own boyfriend Aidon (Aidoneus), who is a God and the son of Hades! Her family members have received magic from Phoebe accidently and while Nina is quite excited about it, her mother doesn’t believe she got any and wouldn’t want any of she did, whilst her nana has been acting a bit weird for weeks. Phoebe hopes she isn’t on her final decline, she is ninety! She is looking vacant and coming out with some nasty language and behaviour, which is worrying them all! Phoebe has to rely on coven member Clio, to come and heal her and Tarja repeatedly, leaving Clio put out a bit, never having to do this so often for the former Pleiades Hattie! In the midst of her trying to sort out the familiar problem, she gets a visit from an elf called Heidi who asks for help with a ghost in her home. It turns out this is a poltergeist and soon it locks Heidi inside the house and attacks Phoebe and Stella when they try to approach. She now realises just how serious the issue is, but needs to do a load of research to figure out how to get rid of the poltergeist, whilst still worrying that her familiar might never recover. That little voice she used to hear in her head is silent and she can only see a single link of the chain that used to link them together! The rest of her family and friends start helping by looking at Hattie’s secret magic library, for clues to solve Heidi’s issues, until a fire suddenly starts! Her nana’s behaviour gets worse and worse until Phoebe finally figures out that it might be a magical problem rather than a human end of life issue. On top of that, she has to try and connect other Pleiades from all over the world and convince them to come and help sort out the issue on Stuleros with witch familiars. None of them even believed it was possible to travel to the familiar’s realm, nor what the issue is there. Phoebe has had so much on her plate having only had magic in her life for less than a year and then inheriting Hattie’s powers as Pleiades, and has not had much time to get to know the other Pleiades, the other members of the coven she inherited nor visited witches on the far side of the country that she didn’t even realises he was responsible for. Even though Aidon lives almost next door to her, she doesn’t get as much alone time as she would like with him as she is being called in loads of different directions all at once. As a nurse, she was used to making loads of rapid and life altering decisions, as well as being highly organised. All of which helps her in her current role and even gives her loads of excitement and gets her blood pumping. Her powers have made her feel younger than she is and she is rid of her abusive ex-husband. She has bagged a god and she doesn’t believe it, but she deserves it all and more! Three separate and dangerous issues for her to deal with in this book and heaps of magic going around. Another exciting and fun read with Phoebe and the gang, as she gets more used to her magic and her new life. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
As this book begins, Tarja has been gravely injured in Sturleros, an astral plane for familiars. Phoebe is desperate to save her beloved familiar and guide.
It will take every bit of creative thinking and use of power and energy to have even a chance of keeping her alive.
Some of the advantages Phoebe has over the other Pleiades is her different education and thinking, a team of resources around her, and although she struggles with it, her willingness to utilize the skills and talents around her, even though some trusts were broken by people around her.
Can their unique team approach help the Pleiades save themselves and the realm where their familiars might interact and mingle?
Is Nana suffering age related dementia and acting out, or is more in play?
A particularly nasty poltergeist type of situation shows that hauntings might not all be simple situations and might need more thorough review before action is taken.
As Amelia and Mollie discover and explore their witchly talents, Phoebe is reminded how much there is to know and do, and the importance of teamwork is reinforced- as well as the importance of good orgasms and self care.
The drama and action continues in this exciting series, as women in their midlives and beyond discover their sisterhood, their power, and complex connections and balance.
I enjoyed reading this book and others in this series on Kindle and Kindle Unlimited.
If you haven't read the other books in the series, well go do that I'll wait....Done? Good. So, the last thing we knew was Phoebe and Tarja had astral projected to Stuleros with Luci and Zephyrus, right? Then Tarja was attacked by the phantasm and hurt badly enough that Phoebe could no longer feel her through their connection. She managed to get them back to their plane, but will she be able to save Tarja? (See, you need to go back and read the other books. Hurry up.)
That is just one of Phoebe's problems on her long to-do list. It is the most pressing since she will be lost without Tarja. She just hasn't had her magic long enough to possibly be able to handle her duties as Pleiades with no guidance from her familiar. There is also something weird going on with her grandmother. Nana is saying and doing strange things and what is with that purse she won't put down? Then there is the elf that showed up saying there is a poltergeist that is taking over her house, the chance that both her mother and grandmother may also now have magic, still needing to do something about the phantasms in Stuleros so that more witches can have familiars, and, uh, getting to finally go on a hot date with her boyfriend Aidon (can you call a god your boyfriend?). So, the book is jam-packed with magical action!
I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.
WARNING! Cliffhanger! This one ends on a book-hook cliffhanger, not nearly as big a deal as the last one!
Phoebe’s familiar Tarja has been hurt, Nana is acting weird, the familiar realm needs a helping hand, and an elf is stuck with a poltergeist haunting her… it’s business as usual for Phoebe and the gang!
The book picks up from book five’s cliffhanger ending, quickly resolving that situation… but we still have Phoebe dealing with a lot. Fortunately she has some fantastic friends by her side, and a mate worth his weight in gold!
This enjoyable addition to the series gives answers to some long term issues, which are resolved in this book, while some new issues sit on a back burner. An entertaining read for paranormal women’s fiction fans, and followers of the series.
I have read all the books in the series so far and this book is no exception in the strength of writing, warmth and humour portrayed.
The heroine Phoebe is middle aged she is smart and sassy, has a literal God does boyfriend. A loyal group of supernatural friends and intergenerational family who have all become witches since the Plaiedes witch power was transferred to Phoebe.
In this as the previous books there are trials and tribulations to overcome which she does with the love and support of those around her.
The book ends on a cliffhanger.. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Trim has outdone herself in this installment in the series! The action and angst begin on page one, and your heartbeat never slows until the end. Oh, never mind, because mine is still pounding with excitement and the need for the next book! Trim has taken a green mundie, with no knowledge of the magical world, and turned her into a master at thinking outside the normal magical box.
If you haven't started reading both of Trim's Midlife series, stop reading reviews and start reading! Best two series I have devoured in a long, long time. Oh, and if you can buy them, rest assured that you will reread them many times!
This is a series not to be missed. Start from the beginning, you won't be sorry. Phoebe still can't catch a break. She always seems to have so much on her plate. I won't give spoilers, but I can tell you this book has it all. Magic, curses and mystery. The group still manages to find their way through all of the drama. They provide humor, a sense of family and time for a little romance. Another great addition to the series. Ms. Trim is an absolute rockstar. This is my honest opinion of an early copy I received.
Once again Phoebe and gang are pushed to the limits and not only succeed in a glorious way but celebrate each others successes also! Too bad life won't give them a break... curses, tainted spirits, and astral projecting are the name of the game in this episode. Grammy and Nana find out they each have a little magic of their own. The bad spirits are defeated and then HELLO here comes another incident knocking on the door. These gals are on the go nonstop and marching to their own tune. Love this series!!!. The magical world is still exciting and full of problems to solve for Phoebe and her friends. Poltergeists wreaking havoc, healing Stuleros so that more familiars can be created, and a new murder at the end to create a cliffhanger are just a few of the adventures in this book that kept me reading well into the night!. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I am loving this series. Each instalment is exciting and very entertaining and this latest addition is every bit as good as the rest. A poltergeist filled with rage. A frightened elf and a familiar whose life is on the line, the paranormal world know who to run to with their problems and as each is solved yet another appears. There’s magic, mystery, drama, curses, it’s a fantastic adventure with some fantastic characters that I cannot recommend enough!
I enjoyed this book. Phoebe has her hands full. Just when one problem is solved another crops up. You get so much in this story. Astral projection, A poltergeist, A ghost, ghoul and an elf. That's not including a God and a dragon. A curse and a troublesome handbag of all things. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Phoebe really gets herself into some tough situations, but I love the fact she is bad a$$ enough to get out of them too.
Watching her grow more confident in herself as the series has continued has been a joy. The cast of strong women around her adds so much depth to these stories.
I love Phoebe and Tarja and this book definitely didn’t disappoint! All the great characters and the stories just keep getting better. A truly great read. Best enjoyed if other books in the series have been read. . I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Wow so much action in this book Phoebe, Aidon and the gang have their hands full in Nasty Curses & Big Purses... It was like being on a rollercoaster... So many things to help with and Nana hasn't been acting right...Phoebe is worried about her... Brenda Trim really knows how to keep your interest in a story Highly recommend this series
Nasty Curses & Big Purses (Midlife Mysteries & Magic Book 15) by Brenda Trim. Phoebe’s familiar Tarja is gravelly injured and it is touch and go for a while. Then Nana is cursed and and Heidi’s house is taken over by a poltergeist. Is Phoebe ever going to get a rest?

Seems Phoebe can’t catch a break. Phoebe is asked too help get rid of poltergeist and it won’t be easy. Stuleros isn’t safe and it will take a lot of help from more witches to make it safe again. Another great read that I enjoyed.
I voluntarily reviewed this Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

This group of newbie witches is growing stronger and getting better with each book. Strong, smart, and growing in confidence every task they complete. I love this group.
I have enjoyed all the books in this series. Magical, romantic, with characters always growing and changing. It was nice to see her mother and grandmother come in to their powers….and to watch the relationship blossom between the two main characters
Each book has had it's own set of troubles and the interesting main characters thinking of solutions. The plot is easily followed, and I like the out of the box thinking. I definitely recommend this book and the entire series.
Nana's acting strangely. A new client has a poltergeist problem. Mom's finally accepting her magical side. The realm familiars come from is in heavy need of cleansing. And Phoebe is still with Aedoneus. Just a normal week in Maine
Brenda Trim has worked her magic on this sixth installment of the series. The character work and story line were well written and kept me reading from start to finish.

So much is happening in Phoebe's life. She and Tarja astral projected to Stureos, and Tarja was attacked and badly injured. An elf comes to her for help with an angry poltergeist, and Nana is behaving strangely. Phoebe's to do list just keeps getting longer.
Nasty Curses & Big Purses is the sixth book in the Mystical Midlife in Maine series. This is an entertaining read with quirky characters and an interesting storyline.
