- F. Bordewijk-prijs (1992) for De dood als meisje van acht
- Frans Erensprijs (1995) for his œuvre
- Pierre Bayle-prijs (1999) for his work as a critic
- Constantijn Huygens-prijs (2006) for his œuvre
He also published as Jacq Vogelaar and J.F. Vogelaar, and he published one book under another pseudonym: Koba Swart.
