Reading aloud to baby is one of the great joys of being a parent. And it’s more than just fun; experts say that being read to is a critical component of a child’s ability to read, learn, and create. Favorite Mother Goose Rhymes makes the process fun with bedtime classics like Jack and Jill, Little Miss Muffet, and Pop! Goes the Weasel. This collection features such irresistible characters as bubble-blowing kings, tumbling lizards, and prancing kittens who have lost their mittens. Favorite Mother Goose Rhymes gives parents a chance to rediscover old friends in a beautifully illustrated format while letting children enjoy the delights of discovery.
A few rhymes with different illustrations, this was a decent book for me, but my 18-month old is enthralled by it.
3 months later: upgrading to 5 stars. It's one of the most popular choices at bedtime (his, not mine) and sometimes even takes multiple "bed time book slots". That's worth 5 stars in my book!
Title: Favorite Mother Goose Rhymes Author: Cricket Magazine Group Genre: Mother Goose/Nursery Rhymes Theme(s): Rhyming/Repetition Opening line/sentence: Three little kittens, They lost their mittens, And they began to cry. Brief Book Summary: This book consists of only 6 mother goose rhymes. They range from Jack and Jill to Three Little Kittens. Each story takes up 1-2 pages and is illustrated around the text. Professional Recommendation/Review #1: Kathryn Milkowski Nursery ryhmes are so important to learn as a child. As an adult, I know most of them and wanted to teach them to my children. I researched the perfect book that included all the rhymes I remembered. This book was it!! It had all the classic nursery ryhmes I remembered and more! And you will love the illustrations...beautiful! My son (age 4) remembers each picture and will talk about it. You will find so much detail in each illustration that will add to the nursery ryhme even more. I highly recommend this book! Professional Recommendation/Review #2: Ronda Mrock-Parks Beautiful quality book, nice thick pages that can stand up to my 3 year old turning them, lovely illustrations that capture his attention for a long time. He's at an age where he loves rhyme and this book is a bedtime staple. Response to Two Professional Reviews: I do agree that the book has beautiful illustrations. I also agree that the rhyme schemes and repetition help grab the reader's attention. The only thing I did not like is that there are only 6 nursery rhymes in the entire book (which is not very many in comparison to the price of this book). Evaluation of Literary Elements: This book uses the elements of rhyme scheme and repetitive patterns very well. It also provides a new plot with each new short story that is slowly worked through by the reader. The images also provide fantastic context for what is happening in each story. Consideration of Instructional Application: I think this book would be a great book to use for a writer's workshop. It shows imaginative stories that are strung together with rhymes and repetition. This would be a great book to lay a foundation, provide as an example, for students to try to use rhymes within their own writing.
Memorable Book-I decided on this book because my mother and grandmother used to read this to me. Also my grandmother bought it to read to my mother when she was a little girl.
