Finally I managed to get around to read this one. First of all I want to state that SOTUS the series is one of my favorite Thai LGBTQ+ series out there. Mostly due to the relaxed and healthy relationship we see portrayed on the screen. For those who do not know about Asian cinema, Thailand is a country that produces many LGBTQ+ projects out there and the one country that seems to be pretty open about it too. Thus I would say generally you would find many dramas based on BL or few on GL as well. Unfortunately due to this same reason we see many unnecessary elements added to the storylines which generally leave them quite toxic. For an example the currently airing Tonhon Chonlathee which too is based on a novel, portrays our lead character Ton in quite a homophobic element. Maybe it's a decision taken by the producer to give the character more space for character growth but the fact it greatly deviated from his character in the novel somewhat upsets me. A very good example of a realistic coming-of-age LGBTQ+ drama series out there is "I Told Sunset About You". For all those who want to try a drama, I would highly recommend to start there.
Now to the review of the book. As I have been mentioning and slowly building up this review to that point, SOTUS is special in my heart due to the portrayal of a very healthy relationship. I saw few fans having a problem with Arthit's character struggling to come-out even as an adult but for me the story was written in a simple way you can understand his tribulations when it came to that point. As any happy-ending-book, he did finally come into terms and publicly accept it and even took steps to talk to his parents and Kong's parents (we don't get to see it but please give us a third season). The journey they came to reach that point was the most natural. The TV adaptation too has a really great fanbase (mostly due to the chemistry between the characters) and still is considered one of the best among fans of BL series. Although I read only a partial translation, I really do hope that some saving grace would finally officially translate all these books and give the opportunity for international fans to get our hands on physical copies too!
No me gustó la dinámica de la pareja, Kong siempre detrás del otro... Me pareció cansado, creo que yo no habría sido capaz de estar así con una persona durante tanto tiempo. Siempre Kong cediendo... Odié eso.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Sotus was a pure classic. This one deals with reality. The series shoud have included Arthit's mind talkings. We could get a proper in depth view then.
The beginning is really difficult to get through. But I really like how it shows the SOTUS System at Thai Universitys. Also the Charkter Growth is really a lot and good. And I also like how you See over the books so many years and how it is in Uni after it and so on.
