This book hooked me immediately. What do you get when you mix amnesia with an unsolved murder? The answer is a fast paced thriller you won’t be able to put down. This twisty plot had me racing to a conclusion I never saw coming. “ The average person has thirteen secrets right now.” The lines between reality and fantasy are blurred as Vonny is tasked with finding the truth. Is someone out to get her, or is her mind playing tricks on her? “Safe is such a subjective term- entirely open to interpretation.” Is Vonny safe in her ignorance of the past decade, or is danger closer than she knows? Last Liar Standing is a riveting thrill ride. Thank you BookSirens and Red Adept Publishing for my ARC. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I paid for this not having heard of the author before which I don't do much. I am pretty sure it was the tagline that sucked me in on the cover...love that. I haven't marked it too highly because for me it seemed very, very drawn out for 80% and then the final 20% she rushed through a little too much, I found.
Certain parts just got WAY too unbelievable and farfetched for my liking and a couple of times I was going to jack it in but I had got to about 54% so stuck with it. Like Vonny would go into her house that she didn't remember and camp out on the ground floor....and then when she does venture upstairs she averts her eyes from the photos on the staircase. Trust me, that wouldn't happen in a month of Sundays. Women are just more nosey than that for starters and would, without a doubt, go poking around that house as soon as they got through the door !! Then she speaks to an old flame and we're to believe she wouldn't ask him why they split up once he gave her the nod that it hadn't been an amicable parting !! Then she sees a shrink and considers not mentioning she'd lost her memory in an accident. WHY not ? She came across as an utter nitwit at many times. At one point there's an assault and then she decides to get out of Dodge a YEAR afterwards !!!
Plus there are a lot of errors I don't expect to see in a properly published, paid-for book. Words missed out of sentences (try find a rhythm for my breathing), missed off apostrophes, she wrote stationary and not stationery, ticks not tics, misses a lot of hyphens as in gluten free or shape shifting.....annoying.
We did get to hear of Vonny's sleeping patterns ad nauseum.....then she mentioned word documents without capitalisation but mentioned them again on the next page and did. Why nobody spotted these annoyances is beyond me.
I liked the cover and the chapter headings were nicely decorated and looked very nice on my Kindle page. However, I wouldn't rush to spend money on another by her with these irritating mistakes, I'm afraid.

Danielle M. Wong, the author of “Last Liar Standing” has written an intense, twisted, captivating, and suspenseful thriller. The genres are Mystery, Suspense, Thriller, and Fiction. The story takes place in the present and goes to the past when it pertains to the characters or events. The author describes her dramatic characters as complicated, complex, suspicious, and dysfunctional. There is gaslighting, betrayals, danger, greed, threats, and murder. After a tragic hit and run accident, Vonnie Kwan, the protagonist in the novel, finds herself in a Nevada hospital, with a form of amnesia that has wiped out the past nine years of her life. Can you imagine waking up in terrible pain with no memory of a portion of your life? Two detectives do visit, and Vonnie finds out that she has a husband John, whom she doesn’t remember, and she is told that he has been recently killed. When she is ready to leave the hospital, the detectives provide her with her address. Vonnie is stunned at the size of her house and finds out that she is a psychiatrist. Several characters introduce themselves, and she has no recollection of who they are. Vonnie realizes that she has to find the missing pieces of her life, in order to deal with the present and future. Vonnie has some debilitating and frightening dreams and believes some are parts of her lost memory, and some are symbolic. Various unusual occurrences happen that make her very nervous and very suspicious of everyone around her. There are very edgy and scary moments. I would highly recommend this chilling thriller to other readers.

Thanks so much to @KateRockBookTours for including me on the tour for LAST LIAR STANDING by @DanielleMWong and for a gifted copy of the book which went on sale June 20!

Vonny wakes up in a Nevada hospital suffering devastating injuries from a hit and run. Just as distressing, she’s lost her memories of the last nine years. She’s shocked to learn she is a psychologist living in San Francisco and stunned that her husband, John, was recently murdered.

Returning home, she doesn’t recognize her extravagant house or expensive wardrobe and can’t help but wonder who she has become. Struggling to piece her life back together, troubling nightmares and memory flashes make her think her life was less than comfortable. But if she doesn’t start to remember the last nine years, she may be indicted in John’s death—or face the same fate.

Psychological thrillers with amnesia are always suspenseful since the narrator by circumstance is unreliable and either has to take people at their word or be suspicious of everyone. With short chapters and several unanswered questions, the book has a quick pace and several astonishing twists. I love San Francisco but haven’t been in so long; this book’s setting made me want to visit tout suite!

Some inconsistencies I noticed, though took me out of the story. (For example, Vonny loses her phone in the hit and run but at the end of the book she is looking at old pictures on her phone. Maybe they were downloaded from the cloud but because it made me stop and think of logistics, I checked out a little).

In Last Liar Standing, a woman, suffering from amnesia, is desperate to uncover the secrets of those around her—but first, she’ll have to remember her own. Danielle M. Wong packs this propulsive story with all the elements that are catnip to thriller readers—lurking danger, suspicious characters, eyebrow-raising surprises, twists upon twists—and caps it off with a final reveal you won’t see coming.

Amnesia troupe are one of my favorites, so of course I was immediately pulled into this story. It was a twisty ride, for Vonny to figure out her mysterious past 10 years and why her husband was murdered while she was out of town. There was so much gaslighting, lies, and deceit, you just don’t expect anything to come to light. Can you imagine not being able to remember the last 10 years of your life and how could you trust anyone.

When the murderer was revealed my jaw was on the floor because it was completely unexpected but after being revealed it made perfect sense! If you are looking for an edge of your seat thriller, definitely check this book out!

***** Many thanks to Danielle M Wong for the gifted copy as it was provided to me in turn for my honest opinion.

Last Liar Standing by Danielle M. Wong is an incredible gripping thriller that I absolutely LOVED!

The timeline alternates to the past and the present. The characters are complex and well fleshed out.

After a horrible car accident, Vonnie is left in the hospital with amnesia and cannot remember anything. She is in terrible pain, and she can't remember why or how this happened.

To make matters worse, her husband, who she doesn't remember, has recently been killed.

Last Liar Standing is an incredible, suspenseful thriller that will leave you flipping the pages.

There are enough twists and turns, and the characters are surprising in the best possible way.

Highly recommend this captivating thriller!

Not bad.

Last Liar Standing by Danielle M. Wong is a story about a woman named Vonny who suffers from amnesia. When she wakes up in the hospital, she remembers nothing about her past. Vonny makes friends and enemies, and people aren't who they seem to be. Everyone seems to have secrets, and Vonny isn't sure who she can trust. It doesn't help that the two detectives following her have hidden knowledge that could make things more complicated. Did something happen that triggered Vonny's amnesia? You'll have to read this novel to find out.

Danielle M. Wong is a talented writer. She takes time giving vivid details of Vonny's surroundings, and the characterization is superb. I like the book cover, and the twists were good. I did not issue this a five-star rating because Last Liar Standing was too long, and it would have benefited from keener editing. I noticed several typos as I read through this novel.

Vonny Kwan wakes up in the hospital with amnesia. The victim of a hit-and-run accident. The last she knew it was 2013 and now she finds herself in 2022 with absolutely no memory of the last nine years. Things get even more complicated when the detectives tell her that her husband John was murdered. Is something wrong here or is there is something wrong with Vonny? She has to put together the pieces of her own puzzle to find out. I was hooked by the first page. This was a fast read that kept me guessing. I couldn't put it down until I knew the ending.  What a twister with all the thrills. I loved it.

The writing in this book definitely created a tension that mirrored the mental and emotional state of the main character.

I really liked how we got some flashback to build the context for the novel. These clues that were woven throughout allowed the reader to start deducing what was happening.

I struggle with unreliable narrators and felt that way about the main character, Vonny, at times. It is difficult for me to understand how someone in a confusing or disorienting situation (like she definitely was) would make choices to impair themselves further. I understand how this functions in a novel like this but it is also something her makes me frustrated with the character’s choices.

Thankfully, the story moved on past this and I was eager to read through the second half of the novel to find out what had really happened. The author wrapped up the story in a way that didn’t leave any gaps, which I appreciated. Overall, a book I enjoyed and which kept me wanting to find out what would happen next!

I really enjoyed this amnesia trope thriller! Vinny wakes up in a hospital and has no memory of the past 9 years of her life. What follows is a ride full of twists and Vinny fights to recover her memory and figure out who murdered her husband.

The writing was sooo intense! I found myself engrossed in the storyline and on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen. Wong did a great job keeping me entertained and guessing the whole way through.

This story was told in dual timelines, which I love. There was good background information as well as great character development. Vonny was an unreliable narrator, and I enjoyed trying to figure out what was true and what wasn’t.

Thank you NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Last Liar Standing immediately draws you and keeps you riveted to your seat until the final twist is revealed! This is an intense psychological thriller that will leave you begging for more. The story is intricately written, with twists and turns that will leave your head spinning. The layers upon layers of information that is slowly revealed will leave you changing your mind every time you turn a page. This is not your typical amnesia story; this is so much more!

Vonny Kwan wakes up in Nevada after being hit by a car. She has lost nine years of her life and she believes she has just graduated from NYU. She has no idea where she lives, if she is married, or what she does for a living. Her mind is completely void of any of this information. As Vonny struggles to uncover who she is and how she ended up in Nevada there are more questions than answers. Leading her down a dark, horrifying path of discovery. That are linked to flashbacks that come at a snap of a finger, giving her some insight into who she was.

I do not want to go into too much detail and give away the entire book. If you are looking for a fantastic, well thought out psychological thriller this is the book for you. Thank you to Danielle M. Wong, Red Adept Publishing, and Kate Rock Book Tours gifting me this thrill a minute read.

4.5 stars rounded up.

I really enjoyed this book. I was pulled in from the prologue and really liked Vonny as a character. I loved the quick pace and the how the past and present alternated but in small groups. I could feel all the emotions Vonny went through, from panic to frustration as she tried to piece her memory back together to determine what was real and what is a lie. I loved the suspenseful moments and the psychological trouble that came with the amnesia. There were multiple twists and each discovery kept me guessing until the end. I don’t stay up late reading very often, but this book had me desperately needing to know the ending.

Thank you @daniellemwong_ for the gifted copy.

This is a well written psychological suspense book that kept me on the edge of my seat from the first page until the last. The female protagonist is very sympathetic and at times I almost didn’t want to turn the page for fear of what would occur next for her. My only problem with this story is that the protagonist was referred to as a psychiatrist but in fact she had gone to graduate school not medical school making her a psychologist.

I received an arc of this book and voluntarily provided a review.

I think I'm one of the few that thought this book was only ok. I did not find it propulsive and thrilling at all, nor was it written at "breakneck speed". I found the premise interesting and was even quite intrigued in the first few chapters and wanted to know what was going on. After the MC Vonny loses her memories however, I just found everything after that boring.

Lots and lots of chapters are of Vonny moping around home doing nothing except be scared and not even willing to look at photos on walls or even explore her home? I get it, she's lost her memories, I don't need to be reminded of that on every page.

Anyway, don't want this review to be too negative. I enjoyed the beginning as I said, the writing was well done even though I usually don't like first person narratives. Gave it two stars because it really was ok, it wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either, so I do recommend you read it for yourself and base your own opinions.

I think this book just wasn't for me as I'd come off after reading a brilliant mystery/thriller before this one and was probably tainted by my expectations of my next read.

I can’t believe it took me this long to read this book! Thank you so much @daniellewong for sending me this signed copy 😍

I honestly really enjoyed this book guys! It started off very suspenseful and I had no idea where it was going. This book was truly refreshing. I don’t think I’ve read a thriller with a similar topic and I loved that.

The reasoning behind my rating is based on how the book was set up. It was kinda dual timelines. Maybe? A little over half of the book was present day, and then the last of the book was the MC’s recollection of the past. In my personal opinion, I would have liked those chapters to be scattered throughout the book so we could jump back and forth between timelines while connecting them in some way as you read. Having multiple small flashback chapters instead of one big one, would have been my preference. For me, having it like it was made parts of the book drag, especially in the middle.

Overall though, I would 100% recommend this book because it really had an amazing plot and I was not expecting the twist at all!

“𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘴 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘸.”

Vonny wakes up from a horrible accident and suffers from amnesia. Years have passed, and she remembers nothing, not even that she was married to John, not even that he was murdered recently.

This is one of those thrillers where you don’t know who to trust. Vonny is confused and, having suffered a brain injury, is what she is seeing reliable or hallucinations? There are plenty of people who seem to want to help her: nurses, doctors, detectives, her mother-in-law, and even her lawyer, but, as the opening quote states, everyone has secrets!

The story does slip back to before Vonny’s accident to help us piece the puzzle together. The fast pace and interesting characters make this a gripping thriller.

I received a complimentary copy of LAST LIAR STANDING by Danielle M. Wong as part of a Kate Rock Book Tours scheduled tour. Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read the book and participate in the tour!

LAST LIAR STANDING finds Vonny Kwan waking up in the hospital in Nevada with no memory of the last several years. She’s been the victim of a hit-and-run accident though she has no idea how or why she came to Nevada. She is shocked to learn that her BFF no longer takes her calls and that she’s a married woman. Worse yet, she gets a visit from the police to let her know that her husband Jon has been murdered.

With her physical ailments under control, Vonny returns to the home she doesn’t know. Without anyone in her life to really turn to that she remembers, Vonny must try to piece together her past and figure out what happened to John and to the life she had expected to have.

The synopsis for this one immediately intrigued me and I am happy to report that the book itself did as well! I picked it up to make a start and wound up flying through the whole book in less than 24 hours. I felt so bad for Vonny and the situation she found herself in! I can’t even imagine finding out you had a husband and then lose him all within the same day! Her amnesia makes Vonny (and the reader) struggle with who to trust and this makes for some very interesting twists along the way.

Thank you again to the author and to Kate Rock Tours for the opportunity to read and review this book! LAST LIAR STANDING is available now!

I’m a sucker for books with characters like Vonny who lose their memories and are forced to put the pieces of their life together on their own. The way Vonny doubted her own memories and reality kept me guessing until the very end on how much of what she was/had experienced was real. I loved how the other characters were harboring secrets and how they’d manipulate the situation. So many great plot twist through the story. The ending felt rushed but was still so good!

I also loved this authors other book Tinny Wild Things.

I listened to this book, and while I didn’t love the narrator’s voice, it gave me what I wanted - something I could pick up and put down whenever I was working on chores and wanted to make them more entertaining. I had about 50 incorrect theories before the whole mystery unwound, and was not disappointed by the big reveal in the end. I’d recommend this book as a fun distraction. It’s not high literature, but it has its place.

My Thoughts:
When Vonny wakes up in the hospital she has no idea what happened and why she’s in there. But she soon realizes she can’t remember a whole decade of her life and she soon learns that her husband has been murder which causes her to become Suspicious of the people around her. As she starts remembering more the story has some twist and turns.

Last Liar Standing by Danielle M. Wong immediately hooked me with the first sentence…”𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘴 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘯𝘰𝘸” and it steadily intensified at breakneck heart hammering pace.

The MC, Vonny, has woken up in a hospital after a terrible accident to discover she has retrograde amnesia and the only person still alive that she remembers is a friend from college who doesn’t want anything to do from her.

I know the amnesia thriller is a trope that has been done all before, however, this book might take precedent on how it can be done with so many unexpected twists and riveting turns, trust me you do not want to miss out on this perfectly executed thriller!!

4/5 stars! This is my first book by author Danielle Wong and I really enjoyed the twists and suspense elements. The time-hopping didn't bother me as much as it seems like it did some readers, but I also have a psychology background. I was fascinated by the concept of 'experiments' taking place and read the book in two sittings. The only part that kept this from being a 5-star read, is that when she does get her memories back, the author didn't do a great job of showing grief towards another killed-off character. I also figured off the final twist a few chapters prior. But overall, a strong story and I look forward to reading more by this author.

Last Liar Standing is a suspenseful thriller where the heroin experiences amnesia. Vonny must piece back together her life after she's found many states away from her home. On top of the amnesia, her wealthy husband has been murdered.

Vonny finds herself unable to shake the feeling that someone is after her after she catches glimpses of danger in her mind. I've not read many novels with amnesia, not sure its something I enjoy in books or not.

Wong has written this story in the first person so the reader feels immersed in the stories short chapters. When the last puzzle piece is put in place in regaining her memory, the reader will be left with their mind-blown!

"The average person has 13 secrets right now..." - do you? Thank you Kate Rock Book Tours for the complimentary paperback.
