He wants an heir. He wants a slave. He wants to punish. He wants me chained.

I could have made the right choice and stayed away, but when the mob came knocking with the chance for quick money, I went down a road that led me to him.

Don Cartello.

He’s young, powerful, and rumored to be more beast than man. Only an idiot would cross a man like that. Guess who stepped up?

Me.

When things get too real, I decide to turn states, but once you’re in the game, there’s no getting out. Just when I think I’m safe a monster breaks down my door and puts a ring on my finger. A wife can’t testify. A slave can’t escape.

Til death do us part.

He wants an heir, and it’s my job to give him one. He wants revenge for my betrayal, and he’s going to use, break, and punish me. He will brand me with shame, forge me in the fire of lust and discipline, and make me something new.

A woman in chains. A slave in waiting. The only one that can give him an heir.

Whether I want to or not.

**1.5/5 stars**

I'm pretty sure I got this book for free, which is a balm knowing that I didn't spend a penny on this. I'm rarely this harsh in my reviews but there was nothing about this story that I really liked. I almost DNFed a few times but pushed through because it was short. Deep down, I was also hoping it would get better...

I went in blind into this story, didn't even look at the blurb; I just knew it was about vampires and mafia, which is two things I usually like. Somehow, those two things weren't even that important to the plot itself. Well at least in my opinion. I somewhat expected there would be biting and drinking blood but nah. The whole story seemed to revolve around Rachel's journey becoming Vincent's sex slave. There was a lot of BDSM, which I can appreciate and I think the author did a good job portraying this practice. My main issue was how cold it appeared because of the characters' lack of chemistry. Scenes that should've been sexy, just...weren't.

I was chained here, an animal in filth. A degenerate slave waiting at the beck and call of a sexual psychopath.

This pretty much sums up the story 🧐

I hated Vincent right from the start and not once did I feel like warming up to him. He was cruel, cold, controlling and annoying. The problem with him was how he never showed that he cared about Rachel. Or the times that he ''attempted'' just didn't come off as caring. His cold demeanor just made it hard to believe his words. He used her, punished her and humiliated her. And listen, I love me a good psycho boyfriend but this guy wasn't it. He was a crazy unhinged guy, but not in a mysterious bewitching way. You know what I mean? Nothing about him was intriguing or likable.

“What’s the point in having a slave if you don’t use her?”
-Vincent

As for Rachel, I thought I would somewhat like her at the beginning but I quickly realized she was just a doormat with Stockholmes Syndrome. I'm normally very indulgent with heroines and I always try to sympathize with what they are going through but it was just so difficult with her. She started out somewhat feisty and somewhat smart, which honestly gave me hope but spending time with Vincent only corroded her personality. In the end, she firmly believed that Vincent cared about her which flabbergasted me. Also, something that I didn't understand was her relationship with her parents. Many times, she mentioned how while growing up, her Christian parents were strict and always snooping around her, making sure she stayed in line. Yet, when the possibility that Rachel might disappear was brought up, they literally just shrugged it off? I guess if her parents didn't care about her, it explains a lot about why she thhought Vincent cared about her...But still? What?

“He cared about me. He was the only one that ever cared about me. If you think I’m in trouble then you’re wrong, Mr. Harper. I’m exactly where I want to be.”-Rachel

Sweetheart, no...

I really failed to see the romance in this story, nothing about this was romantic. It didn't feel like there was any development between the characters. Right from the start, it was clear that Vincent only intended to use Rachel, make her his slave, which he kept repeating throughout. And Lord help me! If I hear the word ''slave'' one more time, I'm going to have an aneurysm. This word was used a grand total of 139 times, in a book that contains 137 pages. Not only was it used to humiliate Rachel and make sure she knew her place, but it was also used as a nickname/pet name. Very not cute... Other than not being cute, it set a clear difference in power/position but also put a distance between the characters, which made it hard for me to find any chemistry.

I might have been the queen at his side out in the open, but behind closed doors and windows I loved to be the slave on her knees. Every day he used, defiled, and punished me. I always pushed the boundaries and tested his limits, finding new ways to get into trouble to earn new punishments. -Rachel

In the end, we got a mean hero who got what he wanted, and a brainwashed doormat for a heroine. They lived happily ever after in their master/slave relationship, and apparently loving each other. Good for them.

Would I recommend this novella? Personally, no. But if you feel like reading about BDSM stuff, the author was pretty good at writing it. Had there been actual romance and chemistry, I would've enjoyed this, or at least, my rating would've been higher.

**Note that I do not rate novellas and full-length books by the same standards**

This was so fun. Spicy vampires, who can say no to that? Every time I picked this up I was sucked right into this world. Rachel was surprisingly not annoying, which I usually find in these short erotic kindle books. But I liked her, she was feisty and kinda funny. The ending was a little rushed but didn’t take away from how much I enjoyed reading this overall. I’m ready for the second one!

1.5 stars OK, so I wanted some good smutty fun. Well, it was smutty. Fun, not so much. If you want little plot and story development and little character development but with BDSM then this is your story, otherwise, keep looking.

Loved the story. Rachel is kidnapped just before the Feds come to take her into protective custody. Vincent, a vampire and head of the Cartello crime family, kidnaps and marries Rachel to keep her from testifying against him and his organization. There is a lot going on in this story including danger from other crime families who want war and they would like to capture Rachel. There is a HEA for Vincent and Rachel but a lot happens first that makes this an excellent read.

This is a dark romance that might trigger some people, some of the other reviews here have a list of trigger warnings. Rachel is a lawyer who took on what seemed like an easy above the bored job for a Mob boss, but not just any mob boss Vincent Cartello who happens to be a vampire. Rachel decides to go to the Feds not knowing it will turn her world upside down, she is now married to Vincent and kept as a slave. There is a good storyline along with character development for both of them. This is a short book of 137 pages so it’s a fast read. The steamy scenes are full of BDSM, degradation, some restraints. One thing I did not like about this book is how often she’s referred to as slave, it’s like 130 times for 137 page book. There is a lot not a ton of chemistry between the characters. Zara is great at writing brutish, brooding, $ex loving, spanking, “She’s Mine” type of men and if you like you will like her books. This is my fourth book of hers and so far I am also enjoying learning more about the world she had built for her books they are consistent with terms and what is happening which I love the consistency in it. I also thought the reward points to spent on various items in the catalog on the tablet was an interesting idea, I haven’t read that before.

★ Never cross a psycho vampire mob boss ★

—>>> Review Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars - Rachel Chase, always the good girl, just could not resist the lure of money offered in return for “simple legal work” for them when the opportunity presented itself. Unfortunately, she was caught after being flipped by the FBI, but ended up answering to the vampire mob boss himself before she could be hidden by witness protection. Some of the common weaknesses of vampires were confirmed, but Rachel was not going to simply give over to Vincent Cartello and all his ridiculous demands. Good twist to the story, along with drama of vampire politics, and steamy punishments and training to earn Vincent’s trust and become the woman he needs by his side.

I enjoyed this story because it was different to other vampire stories I have read. Nice to see that they only come out at night. The characters were complex and I was glad to see that Rachel was a strong character and really came in to her own, repeatedly rescuing Vincent. He was a very sexy character but I think he definitely met his match with Rachel. A good story which did have it's humorous moments and I liked the bit of intrigue to it. A nice ending and would love to read about them after the birth and the ensuing war.

Hmm, not too comfy...

I love vampire stories; I love a healthy serving of spice, but this actually made me feel rather uncomfortable with it's demeaning use of language & "slave" ideation. It's something that I wouldn't tolerate in my own life & I'm rather relieved to find that it's not part of my inner fantasy life, either.

I know that people do enjoy this kind of thing, it's just not for me.

A lot going on in this story that had me turning the pages as fast as I could. There are possible triggers in this story so be warned. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. There is nothing I didn’t love from the plot to the characters and their dialogue.

Yes!

Here it is again! 🙌Another insanely hot and heavy book greatness. The way she made you feel for the characters, shoot want to be the characters. I felt she did well with the overall plot as well as really giving you an idea of who these people were before coming together. I’m hoping there’s more to come.

Great story line!

I really enjoyed reading this book! The author doesn’t dragged out details about the scenery or the characters which I greatly appreciate, as I get bored very quickly when authors obsess over the tiniest details. Loved the characters and the backstory about breeders.

I loved how this romance turned out. I wish the book was longer to see fully what happens next for the characters. The author was great at sinking their claws in you. Great read.

What tf is this. As you can probably tell from the title this is a beam romance. But there's anybody with this one. The guy is a vampire and she is his slave. I thought I was going to be reading some astronomical sex scenes but it was below average.

Pretty good!

A bit predictable but am in all a good quick read. I think I would have enjoyed it more if it was at a slower pace. Maybe a bit less is more approach at the beginning. However I did enjoy the first book and will definitely look forward to the next.

This book had a lot of spicy scenes and very little story. The spicy scenes were very detailed though. I just wish it focused more on the mafia point of the story. It didn’t give very much of those vibes.

Good fast read

Well to be honest I liked all the dark demented sex. I wish the MTV would have fought a little harder again the domination, but it fit in ok considering the book length

Not My Cup of Tea

As always the author has a talent for writing descriptive novellas that are pleasing to the imagination.

The female H was an intelligent person and when was able to shine thru she did.

However, this is the least liked book i have read by this author so far.

Essentially the whole book was from the female H’s POV and she spent most of her time by herself, granted not by her choice. I felt the book dragged, was really boring. When there was action then it was fun to read, but there was not of that either. The ending left something to be desired, fell flat. Good epilogue though, did bring things full circle.

Really struggled to finish this book. Almost stopped reading 2 different times.

The depravity in this book was too much for me - the cell w/ nothing in it; all she had was a bathrobe; had to earn “coins” thru good behavior to “buy” necessities including food, etc. The idea this was to break her down and build her up a stronger woman.... Well like I said not my cup of tea.

Also, anal to oral or vaginal sex is not sexy. It’s disgusting and a turn off, but clearly this is just IMO.

Editing Errors - grammatical and syntax. Did stutter a few times while reading, but for the most part smooth reading.
