A million pound heist. A man on the run. And a gang hellbent on seeking revenge.
When private investigator Detective Sebastian Clifford is asked by his former society girlfriend to locate her fiance, who’s disappeared along with some valuable pieces of art, he’s reluctant to help. He’d left the aristocratic world behind, for good reason. But when his ex starts receiving threatening letters Clifford is left with no choice.
With the help of his partner Lucinda Bird, aka Birdie, they start digging and find themselves drawn into London’s underworld. But it's hard to see the truth between the shadows and lies. Until a clue leads them in the direction of Clifford's nemesis and he realises they're all in more danger than he thought. The race is on to find the missing man and the art before lives are lost.

Sally Rigby was born in Northampton, in the UK. She has always had the travel bug, and after living in both Manchester and London, eventually moved overseas. From 2001 she has lived with her family in New Zealand, which she considers to be the most beautiful place in the world. During this time she also lived for five years in Australia. Sally has always loved crime fiction books, films and TV programmes, and has a particular fascination with the psychology of serial killers.
I DO like this series from Sally Rigby very much indeed. I guess if I had to pick a favourite it would still be her Whitney and George series but I've "known" them longer and better !! I do like both Seb and Birdie a great deal though her being introduced as Birdie Bird I find a little juvenile, like it's a bit too jokey to be taken seriously. I think I'd opt for Miss Bird instead myself....I look forward to her leaning more about her own back story and it being teased little by little as we proceed in the series. I still notice that the disclaimer in this book is unlike others I have seen. I spotted it in another by her...the any resemblance bit says "is almost entirely coincidental" whereas every other book I read doesn't include the word almost. An odd one. I like Birdie always looking out for Elsa as well. This goes a long way in my book and I appreciate her doing it. There were some amusing lines as she also navigates her way around Sebastian's entitled world. That always tickles me as well. They're an unlikely but well-suited team. She certainly keeps him very grounded, I'd say. And this case meant she got to be around a lot of "his sort" including Annabelle, the EX ! I look forward to the next in the series for sure and I must say I loved the final line in this one as well.
Another hit in the Sebastian Clifford series! I love the relationship between Sebastian and Birdie. Complete opposites in every way, they complement each other perfectly. Both are totally believable characters. Wealthy aristocratic Sebastian with his perfect memory and his intimidating physique is an effective PI on his own. Birdie, a commoner of small stature, keeps Seb human and makes him laugh, and her computer skills are invaluable, The bad guys tend to overlook her which is definitely a mistake. Birdie has now officially left the police department and joined Sebastian as a partner in his new company. This case involves his former fiancee Annabelle and takes them into Seb's world. Birdie is a bit overwhelmed and unsure in this world, as anyone in her position would be, but she handles herself well and wins everyone over. I definitely look forward to seeing more of Seb and Birdie. I wish to thank the author for the privilege of reading an early copy of this book.
Private Investigators Sebastian Clifford and Lucinda “Birdie” Bird are at it again with a new case involving art theft and a missing person. The person hiring them is none other then Annabelle, Sebastian’s ex and the missing person is her fiancé Jasper Pemberton who works at the art gallery where the painting disappeared. As the team races to try to solve this mystery, Clifford’s past will come out of the shadows to draw a tighter noose around the situation. From great characters to vivid descriptions to a fantastic storyline, Sally Rigby has brought us another suspenseful, nail-biting story. I look forward to the next installment in this great series. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is yet another excellent book from Sally Rigby. Seb Clifford and Birdie, the main characters of the series, are both brilliantly written. With this being the fourth book of the series the author really has got a sense of who they are. To be fair that could have been said right from the start. The story is once more extremely well written with additional characters really coming to life with their own motivations that lead our duo to investigate. If you’re a person that likes to guess, or work out, who did what etc. I hope you do better than I did. I never work them out and never saw where this one ultimately was headed. An excellent addition to this superb series that is most definitely a personal favourite.
Sebastian and Birdie are working cases together in their new agency. Seb's ex has asked for his help finding her fiance. Birdie and Annabelle don't get along which makes for an interesting dynamic especially as Birdie needs to be professional. They quickly discover a rare painting went missing at the same time as the missing fiance and they find out disturbing information about the deeper they dig. I'm very happy that Birdie is maturing. She's a great character but she sometimes acted very young for her age and/or job as a former police officer, but now she still has her personality while being mature. I love Sebastian! He comes across as a real person he's written so well. This book will keep you guessing until the end.
Detective Sebastian Clifford is drawn back into his world of aristocracy when an old girlfriend asks him hunt down her fiancé who has gone missing. His friend and partner Birdy Bird reluctantly joins him though she is super self-conscious slipping into this upper world of society. Seb is initially skeptical until threatening notes change his mind.
While this is far from heavy reading, the story line in interesting and holds the reader’s attention. The characters are enjoyable to follow. I did find a lot of repetition where details are re-explained when not necessary. Yes, I’d reluctantly recommend this series as a quick read mystery.
Having the read the Cavendish and Walker novels, I was first introduced to Sebastian Clifford, when I noticed he had his own series, I knew I had to give them a go. I actually found this series more enjoyable. The main characters are completely different but work really well compared to Whitney and George, the characters in this book are much more likeable. I love both of them. This book was my favourite, and the only one I’ve left a review (I’m not saying I didn’t enjoy the others) I was a bit bummed at now being able to read book 5 until December, but at least it’s not years. I defo recommend this series, if you enjoyed the Cavendish and Walker series, you will defo enjoy this one
Hidden From Sight by Sally Rigby is book 4 in the Sebastian Clifford series. Seb and Birdie are such different characters, but both are so likeable and they seem so real, so genuine. With Seb’s phenomenal memory and Birdie’s great instincts, they make a great team, even though they are from different sides of the track. I look forward to each new book in the series to find out what they are up to. It is time for Birdie to make a decision as to where she wants to go in her career. Seb is approached by an ex to search for her missing fiancé. The story goes along at a steady pace until towards the end when the tension ramps up and my heart was in my mouth.
Sebastian Clifford, ex-policeman from the MET and now turned private investigator teams up with his new partner Birdie. Birdie has finally left the police to work with Sebastian. I love Birdie – she’s so quirky. They are working on finding a missing person, the new partner of his ex-girlfriend. Probably the last person I would want to help but they do. As they carry out their investigation, they discover he disappeared around the same time as a piece of expensive artwork from the gallery he worked at. I have read other books with these two characters teaming up and I love them. I received an ARC copy from the author and this is my honest review.
The 4th Detective Sebastian Clifford novel by Sally Rigby, is Hidden From Sight.
Set in Market Harborough, Lucinda "Birdie" Bird has joined Seb in his Clifford Detective Agency, (after previously being his partner in the local police force) and their latest client is Seb's ex, Annabelle, whose fiancé Jasper has gone missing...why doesn't she want police involved?
An unputdownable action-thriller that you will be quickly engaged with and are guaranteed to enjoy - grab your copy today and tell all your friends!
Highly recommended to fans of Ernest Dempsey, Agatha Christie and Nick Thacker.
I've loved all of Sally Rigby's books and this is no exception.
Seb and Birdie are faced with a case that draws them into Seb's world, a world of privilege and wealth, a world completely alien to Birdie, and a world which Seb had sought to leave behind. Birdie is coming to terms with her decision to leave the police force and join Seb full-time.
As usual Sally Rigby seems to lead you in one direction, then just as quickly draws you in a different one, she certainly knows how to keep the reader guessing.
Looking forward to the next book in this series.
I received a copy of the book from the author and am submitting my review voluntarily
Lucinda (Birdie) Bird has finally left her job in the police force and joined forces with Sebastian as a partner in his Private Investigation business.
Whilst the two of them are as different as chalk and cheese, they compliment one another perfectly and I love the dynamics between the two of them.
Sebastian’s ex-girlfriend’s new fiancée goes missing and she asks for Sebastian’s help to find him. Annabel and Jasper are due to marry very soon and his disappearance is totally out of character.
Whilst this is a serious crime thriller it has moments of humour that make it a great read.
An enjoyable read, with Seb and Birdy officially in partnership now, they embark on the mystery of a Million pound painting which has disappeared. It’s Sebs ex girlfriend who asks for help when her fiancé vanishes and she receives a threatening note, leaving Seb and Birdy trying to find the link between the mysterious disappearance of them both. I enjoy all of Sallys books, I find the relationship between Seb and Birdy interesting, they are complete opposites but somehow make a really good team in problem solving. There is enough mystery in this book to keep you interesting, with a good mix of humour too.
Jasper Pemberton is missing says his fiancée, Annabelle, who is also Seb's ex-fiancée. He also works in an art gallery, and a valuable painting is missing. Annabelle receives an anonymous note saying Jasper took something that didn't belong to him, and they want it back. Seb and Birdie have noticed that Jasper has a gambling problem. But there is something more going on as Seb and Birdie find out the more, they investigate. Birdie needs to have more confidence in her abilities around others. Love the bantering between Seb and her. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I love Seb and Birdie as partners! The story was full of new characters and a well written mystery. I love all the insights into Seb's past in this one. It gives his character more depth. The pacing was good throughout. As always, I was intrigued from the first page and didn't stop until the last page. The main characters are extremely likable, and I want to know more. This was the perfect book to escape with on a winter afternoon. I received an advance copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.
What a tangled web of lies and secrets. When a former girlfriend asks Clifford to help find her new boyfriend. Birdie has quit her job, of which the captain is glad, less of a headache for him, she had the knack of bending the rules. Has partnered up with Sebastian and his company. The plot takes them into the underground, with hopes of getting out alive. Readers will enjoy reading, and finding how Birdie fits into her new job. Given complimentary copy for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
Seb and Birdie are finally in a partnership and their first case involves Seb's ex-girlfriend. She hires the duo to find her present fiancé who disappeared at the same time a work of art has disappeared from the gallery where he works. The case is much more complicated than it appeared at the beginning Birdie makes a touching and unexpected friendship and Seb seems to understand her world better as well. The plot has some rather interesting twists, and the story, as always, is very well written. I thank Ms. Rigby and her publisher for the copy of this book. Great read!
Another great installment in the series but this one is PERSONAL!
Sebs ex is in a frenzy (as much as someone so Posh can be) as her beau is missing and so is a very expensive piece of art...
Looking into this brings all sorts of people and info out of the woodwork - including a gangster. What's relevant or related to the case? All leads have to be followed leading into MORE stuff and people! Will Seb and Birdie be able to unravel this mess?
I am really enjoying this series from Sally Rigby, and am working my way through after starting with the newest one. I love the dynamics between Sebastian and Birdie, it's nice to have such polar opposites that work well together. I also love that the dog, Elsa, is woven into the story. The story here is complex, with a few unexpected twists. The additional characters are well detailed and you get to know them well. It is not a heavy read and holds the attention well. If you like to keep guessing then this is for you. For me it's on to the next in the series!
Sebastian and Birdy are now in Partnership of the PI Agency and the first case they get is from Sebastian’s ex-girlfriend whose fiancée is missing, as well as a very valuable painting from the gallery he works at. As they investigate the discover that the owner of the painting was broke and organised forth painting be stolen and put a forgery in its place. A gangster from Londons underworld is also involved and out to seek revenge on Sebastian for putting him in jail. Wonderful narration by Jonathon Keeble.
This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series! Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Sally's books just keep getting better. Seb & Birdie are approached by Sebs ex when her fiance goes missing in strange circumstances. So begins their first case as a independent investigation outfit. Forged paintings , drugs and various aristocrats become part of the investigation. The interaction between Seb & Birdie are well written when they bounce ideas off each other in this intriguing tale.
The fourth in the series and it’s still interesting and not full of plot holes. Our investigators take evidence and do their best to resolve what is happening. It’s nicely paced and again, this was an audiobook with the same narrator who has really given life and character to this couple. Weirdly portrays birdie well for a female voice but this guy is Seb! I wouldn’t have voiced him like that and it’s perfect!
Just like others have also said, this book remains consistent with the earlier works. characters remain consistently portrayed, and despite a couple of odd interactions, remain consistent in personalities. The actual events flow semi slowly through the book to an inevitable and somewhat predictable outcome, but that's ok as you have been entertained along the way. not brilliant but a solid 3 stars from me.
Seb and Birdie make a really good team. I enjoy how much Birdie picks on Seb, so funny. Seb’s ex has a case for him, her fiancé is missing. Can him and Birdie find him? This one was a little slow in places, but still a suspenseful read. Once the action picked up, it was a quick read. I can’t wait to see what the pair get into next, hopefully no divorce cases.😁
Seb convinces Birdie to leave the police force and join his PI firm. A former girlfriend of Seb's, Annabelle, hires him to find her missing fiancé. A missing million-dollar painting looks like the fiancé, Pemberton is involved. An investigation that takes them to a criminal gang. Threats, kidnapping and danger keeps your interest.
another wonderful book in the series! the characters are interesting complex and quirky! I loved the fast paced story which was intense at times and filled with mayhem! Lots of twists and turns. This author piques your interest on the very first page of every book she writes! A real page turner and a must read! cannot wait for the next book !
This is an enjoyable new series. The plot was interesting and kept you reading to find out what was going to happen next. Birdie and Clifford make for an odd pair, but they seem to work well together in spite of their differences in personality and backgrounds. Looks forward to the release of the next book in this series.
