Susannah Nix is a RITA® Award-winning and USA Today bestselling author of rom-coms and contemporary romances who lives in Texas with her husband. On the rare occasions she's not writing, she can be found reading, knitting, lifting weights, drinking wine, or obsessively watching Ted Lasso on repeat to stave off existential angst.
This story serves as a standalone prequel to Nix's Starstruck series, though readers may remember the female lead, actress Kimberleigh Cress, from her brief appearance in book #2 ("Rising Star"). Kimberleigh has avoided speaking with entertainment reporter Spencer Devlin ever since an uncomfortable interview she did with him went viral. However, after he helps her through a panic attack, she realizes that Spencer isn't actually who she thought he was. I loved this story and can't wait for more in the the full, expanded version, "Star Bright."
A short but steamy story with a fun ending that will be followed up with another book. This was an enemies to lovers story that started off with some drama. They then had a shared moment that led to more.
It's a fast read that I read in one sitting and it was well written but I’m not sure that I am inspired by the couple to read the next one.
Kimberleigh Cress is a starlet in show biz. She puts on a persona, & she has her fans & her enemies. She is attending a charity event but is exhausted since she has been on press junkets, jet hoping from one event, or country to anther without any sleeps. This charity event was the one gathering she insisted on representing. Though, unfortunately because of her burn out Kimberliegh is getting, flustered, sweaty, & she knows what's coming on... One of her panic attacks; she cannot let the press see her like this. It will destroy her career. She didn't bring her medication because she has not had a panic attack in months. She needs to get out of there ASAP. While trying to mingle & escape Kim runs into one of her press enemies! Entertainment reporter Spencer Devlin. She has blackballed him from doing any interviews with Spencer since their uncomfortable interview last year went viral. She has a few choice words before she graceful leaves. She cannot even get in the elevator so she finds an empty room & falls to the floor in a fetal position to get her barring's straight.
Spencer Devlin isn't shy about wanting to make his career. He is sarcastic, arrogant but you do what you need to do when it comes to being in show business. Which is why he cannot believe spoiled starlet Kimberleigh Cress is at a charity event. He has to push her buttons & attempt to rattle her cage. They play tit for tat & Kim walks away. But Spencer seems to think something is off. But he isn't going to deal with it now. Spencer has heard rumors that Carson Daily wants to end his late night talk show. Spencer wants to put his hat in the ring. Must make a private call to his agents but in private. He finds an empty room. NO WAIT.... Who is that in the corner shaking like a leaf? No it cannot be? Kim... I could be a jerk, & report this. But I cannot, because I know exactly what she is going thru. I had to have therapy for my panic attacks. I go to her side & ask if she is okay. Kim- Damn it! Of all the people to witness my breakdown! It cannot be! But instead of belittling me, or asking if I'm drunk or high. Spencer actually asks if I'm okay. Do I need help? Do I have medication. Because I'm hyperventilating, all I can do is nod... No, No, & No. What Spencer does next changes my how perspective of his character. Spencer calms me down by distracting me a ring he pulls out of his tux pocket. It must mean something to him. We have a conversation, about his own panic attacks, how therapy & his grandfather's ring helps when he feels like a panic attack is coming on. He then comes to take me to my limo to make sure I get home Okay. A few days later, I realizes I have taken his ring. I need to give it back. We must meet, but not in public. So when Spencer says he isn't doing anything tonight Xmas eve like myself. I decide I want to invite him to my place. Things sure do change that night.... a simple returning his grandfather's ring... Turns into a night of passion. Where do we go from here? Find out in the Book STAR BRIGHT!! to find out what happens next....
This is a fun and steamy enemies to lovers romance that anyone who gets panic attacks can probably relate to. Spencer Devlin made some bad decisions as an up and coming journalist, and Kimberleigh Cress is one of the people he hurt. However, he learned from the experience and is genuinely trying to make amends. I loved how he was able to help Kimberleigh feel safe during a stressful time.
This is a short story prologue to Star Bright, which will be part of Susannah Nix's Starstruck Series of contemporary romances. This story ends with a happy for now situation and is enjoyable on its own, as well as serving as a fun introduction to the Starstruck Series.
The story contains crude language and an explicit sex scene. If that won’t bother you, then I recommend this to fans of contemporary romance.
I originally read this story as part of the Tinsel & Tatas anthology.
So, let me start by saying this is a completely new author to me and I was utterly suprised by how much I loved her writing! Enticing, captivating, sexy, and overall well written. Well done! That being said, I freaking loved Kimberleigh and Spencer's story. Enemies to lovers is a personal favourite trope of mine and this short novella did not disapoint. Be warned though, it ends on a "Happy for now" note as their story unfolds in STAR BRIGHT, coming out in a week. I honestly cannot wait fo it and will be investing more in this author. I read this story as part of the Tinsel & Tatas anthology.
Previously titled "Star Bright" in anthology "Tinsel and Tatas" (unavailable)
Good! Really liked the characters, especially Kimberleigh, a secretly introverted movie star who thought she'd gotten over her panic attacks. Spencer is a reporter she despises, but has become a better person unbeknownst to her. She has a severe panic attack in front of him with unexpected results.
NOTE: "Kimberleigh and Spencer's story will continue in the full, expanded version of STAR BRIGHT". Quote from afterwards of story in the anthology noted above.
I'm so looking forward to Star Bright, to which this is the prequel, and after reading this, I can hardly wait for its release. I loved the establishment of the relationship between Kimberleigh and Spencer. It made sense--the reasons behind why she disliked him and the reasons why she came to change her mind. And even though it was a prequel intended to give the back story to the upcoming book, it was complete and satisfying in and of itself.
This is a very short story than starts another book as I found out at the end of this book. It was ok, as it was very short it felt very rushed. Will I read the full story of this couple? I’m not sure.
mf - celebrity - enemies to lovers - short story prequel with cliffhanger - one night stand - anxiety in both main characters - free on all retailers - 4 stars. Cute steamy story. Look forward to the novel Star Bright.
Aww gee, I really loved this. It was a quick sweet read. I love a bit of enemies to lovers and this just hit the spot for me. Cannot wait to find out what happens next for Kimberleigh and Spencer.
