This novel obliterates the stereotypical sexually frustrated leading woman. Sophie isn't waiting for a charismatic, handsome man to sweep into her life and improve things. Sophie decides she doesn’t need a man to take her by the hand and lead her to happiness. Sophie wants to enjoy sex and explore her sexuality, but monotony and mediocrity seem to dominate her existence. Rather than wait for things to change, Sophie decides to change them on her own terms and in her own time. We follow Sophie Valentine as she takes control. We watch her grow in confidence and launch herself into new and exciting opportunities in all areas of her life. Sophie manages to negotiate some of the constraints and expectations that society puts on her, without the wholesale dramatic and damaging changes associated with a midlife crisis. Sophie revitalises her marriage in many ways, starting with improving her sex life, as she experiments with desires and fantasies. Sex becomes more fun and interesting than she could ever have imagined. Her new-found confidence encourages her to progress a career that had previously been a series of failures and false starts. This book follows her as she begins to understand her value, and asserts herself where she would previously have stayed quiet. This is the story of the adventures, setbacks, and successes, as Sophie Valentine becomes the person she wants to be.
Danielle Aimie is a new author for me. I’m a characters and couple’s relationship guy. This book was impressive and a different story.
It starts the usual way, successful husband working too hard, with a wife that’s pretty complacent about her career and marriage. She mentions that she isn’t getting the attention she wants and her husband responds that he’s bored with their sexual routine.
Its generally expected that the female collapses in these circumstances, and Sophie’s initial reaction is antagonistic. However, Sophie takes stock of her situation and does something about it. She begins to realize how little she knows, particularly about sex, and how complacent she’s become about her career.
Sophie begins to have a bunch of personal insights and, helped by being very good looking and having an insightful and understanding husband, launches herself into a series of personal explorations.
I generally thought the sex was overdone, particularly the final scene, but there were some very hot encounters. What was particularly interesting was how Sophie grew through the encounters and brought the experience and knowledge back into her marriage and working life. Husband Paul was an effective interpreter of the lessons Sophie was learning.
It says this book is 150 pages. I felt the writing was so dense that it was equivalent to a 250 page book. Yes there were typos and continuity errors, but I felt it was an excellent effort from a new author. Without a doubt, the insights overshadowed any shortcomings in the story. I’m not going to quibble over the nits, so a solid 5 Stars.
What a magnificent novel about Sophie’s exploration of her sexuality. Paul and Sophie begin the story as a slightly bored and tired married couple. Danielle writes with power and beauty. Brilliant plot. Sensational characters. Beautiful descriptive prose. Sophie is fairly innocent when the book begins. Her journey is an exploration not to be missed! Every scenario she imagines and explores Paul supports. Brilliant development of her characters and her plot. A beautiful sense of reality. Five white hot shooting pulsing stars for Sophie🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Each time I was pulled back in reading this erotic tomb! In fact I had to stop momentarily as I was so turned on, ie: hard! I couldn’t get enough! Danielle Aimie is such a find! Can’t wait for more!
Talk about mixed feelings. You want to show me a woman free of social constructs who enjoys her sexuality without shame and with her husband’s support? I’m all for it. And it could be empowering if the game wasn’t rigged from the start.
It’s the story of Sophie, a married woman who discovers through an argument with her husband that her life has stalled–a boring intimate life, and no progress in her prefered career. She decides to take hold of her life and change things. Good for her! The process leads her to enter an open relationship with her husband, with his encouragement even. The fact that her newly found confidence helps her with her employment is a bonus.
They often discuss her discoveries, and that means interesting conversations about love and sex, about jealousy, about trust. That part, I couldn’t love more. There’s not enough established relationships in romance, and watching them work through their struggles together was great.
Also, it’s hot. It’s erotica, remember? The ensemble scenes could have been written better, but it’s definitely a challenge to describe what’s happening to several people in a reduced space while keeping the sexy–it seemed a bit technical at times. More than variations, the author writes an escalation in Sophie’s experiences, which was interesting. Like a bird opening its wings.
So where is the game rigged, you ask? Sophie is pretty and has a beautiful body. And the men she encounters through her experiences–the men she chooses even–are all beautiful and athletic. At some point, with Sophie’s constant critical eyes, it felt that the empowering message was only addressed to conventionally attractive people. If you aren’t, don’t bother. Like feminism is only for pretty people.
Another point bothered me a lot, but I understand the reason of its existence. So it’s a story about a woman, for women, I get it. But where is Paul’s side of the story? The husband is also supposed to live in an open relationship, after all, but they never discuss his experiences. Does he have some? Does he hide stuff? Not knowing annoyed me, to be honest.
As for the writing, it wasn’t bad for a debut novel. The conversations sounded a bit stilted, not really natural. There were a few repetitions of words and phrases too close to each other, and some minor editing problems. But all in all, it wasn’t an unpleasant read at all.
A powerful message with a weak transmission, in my opinion, but just see for yourself.
Quickie
- Series: standalone - Hashtags: #erotica #feminism #married couple #open relationship - Triggers: N/A - Main couple: Sophie Valentine & Paul Valentine - Hotness: 5/5 - Romance: 3/5 - + interesting journey of self discovery - – the message is a bit biaised though, in my opinion
I appear to be an outlier with my rating of this book… I should mention that I don’t recall why I downloaded a copy of it on my Kindle: this is not usually the sort of books I read, but I imagine I must have been curious. The subtitle “A stunning exploration of relationships and sexuality in the modern world” is certainly catchy! And as I read it, I soon realized what bothered me about it: it’s too perfect.
Let me explain.
Sophie Valentine is in her early 30s, she lives just outside of London with her husband Paul, who travels a lot for work. She works as a receptionist at the gym she frequents, which is not what she wanted to do for a living, but her career had a lot of false-starts and she ended up settling in her stop-gap gig. Her and Paul are happy, but they are stuck in a rut, has becomes evident when he points out that their sex life has become predictable. This sends Sophie into a spin, but when she cools off, she begins to reflect on her life, particularly the fact that she feels she has not really explored her sexuality in a way that would lead her to a fulfilling sex life. She discusses this with Paul, who is very supportive of her decision to figure out what her fantasies are and to explore them, and see if she can make them a reality. Along the way, the new-found confidence leads her to a great job interview and trial event in the industry she has always wanted to work in.
So.
In theory, all of that is amazing. I love sex, I read and write a ton of smut, I strongly believe there is no age limit to sexual exploration and experimentation. It is, of course, all about communication, and Sophie and Paul’s conversations, that pick apart her curiosity and her interests, are the textbook example of how these things should be discussed with a partner. And this is where my brain went “wait a minute”. Those conversations. Go. So. Well. Surreally well. Paul is so chill with Sophie deciding to take nude selfies and post them online, to hop on dating sites and meet men. As long as he gets pictures of it all, he’s happy as a clam. I’m not saying that’s impossible, I’m saying that’s awfully convenient (it must also be noted that as the story is told entirely from Sophie’s perspective, we never really get to see how Paul feels about any of this beyond what he tells her).
Add to that the fact that Sophie is a beautiful blonde with big boobs, who works out a lot, so she has a great body. That’s awesome, except that I have never met someone who had zero insecurities about their bodies. I also noted the numerous mentions of her perfectly smooth… ahem, lady parts. It’s hard for me to think of her very realistically when she is constantly (self) described as so flawless. Not really relatable!
Speaking of perfection, every man she meets is handsome, fit, well-hung and perfectly happy to be photographed and filmed in the act. She has one bad date, which is not really that bad, it’s just a close encounter with a cad.
Maybe it’s just me, but I like my erotica a bit more realistic and gritty. I like the psychological aspect of human sexuality to be explored a bit more in depths. Sure, it’s feminist as hell that she decides that she is going to take control of her body and sex-life, it’s awesome that she has the opportunity and support of a loving spouse, but there no conflict or resistance at all on Sophie’s journey, and that doesn’t really make for a compelling story, in my humble opinion. I would have loved this if it had explored her hang-ups, her trauma, her insecurities, if it had described bad experiences, stumbling blocks along the way of her sexual awakening. But this was basically a smooth-sailing fantasy fulfillment.
On the plus side, the smut was fun! Sophie's fantasies are actually quite common, and it's nice to see them discussed honestly - and shamelessly!
What an amazing book. I read it in an afternoon, and then gave it to my wife to read (after taking her to bed). It's very erotic, but also a brilliant story, and a very interesting concept. It sparked great conversations between my wife and I, and we're much the better for having them. This is a must read for all married couples, in fact anyone in a relationship. Thank you Danielle Aimie, looking forward to the next book (I hope there is one).
I believe this is the first published novel by a new author. Danielle Aimie attempts what I think is a unique and never tried approach to the erotic telling of a wife’s foray into extra marital experimentation.
Sophie is stunned when her husband says their sex life is routine. She takes it personally and at first lashes out in self defense. Then she decides to figure out what’s wrong and fix it. The story takes us along on her journey of sexual self discovery. We find her in total control of what she decides to do and who she does it with.
Sophie is up front and candid with Paul, her husband, about her intentions and the results of each tryst. Paul is supportive and encouraging (surprisingly with zero angst and jealousy) as she delves deeper and deeper into her sexual encounters. Along the way she finds herself developing greater confidence and self esteem. Which positively impacts her career and she feels even her marriage.
Let me be clear that this is not a hotwife nor femdom story. Not sure what genre the book belongs in. Maybe it’s a new genre all together. It was certainly something I’ve never read before. But it was at times erotic and titillating with numerous sex scenes.
So if you think you have read it all and are getting bored with erotica author’s same old tropes then I encourage you to give this book a try. I’m sure we will be seeing more books by Danielle soon. Her writing is flawless and I hope she takes a stab at delving into the mind of the husband who wants to share his wife.
"What do you mean our sex life is boring?"- The argument that started it all
Sophie's Marriage is in a rut- she doesn't feel like she is desired or wanted by her husband, it hasn't helped that they haven't had sex for a while as he always seems to be working. Paul said something about their sex life being boring. This soon lead Sophie down the rabbit hole to rediscovering herself both sexually and her confidence, not only with a partner but through her career and everyday life. I quite enjoyed the story it was very relatable in terms of communicating within a relationship. So many times relationships don't last due to lack of talking and all they need to do is be open with each other. It was refreshing to read about this. The only thing I would improve is that I would like to see more from Paul. If they are now in an open relationship I would like to see his side- experimenting and seeing how the experience affected him. There was also just a couple of places were I felt the writing didn't flow quite right, didn't feel as natural between Sophie and Paul. Overall, it was an easy and enjoyable read it was only about 150ish pages, but felt a lot longer. I would definitely read Danielle's work again in the future.
*I received a copy of Danielle's book for an honest review
Being a man with two ex-wives and multiple ex-girlfriends, I thought understood women. After reading Sophie Valentine by Danielle Aimie, I realized there's a very good reason I have all those ex's. Sophie Valentine is an extremely well written book that delves into the sexuality of a modern woman. More to the point; her sexual fantasies. Now, I always knew that women's sexual fantasies are different than men's, but Sophie Valentine pretty much took what little knowledge I thought I did have and slapped me upside of the head with it. In other words: I'm just another clueless man. However, after reading Danielle's Aimie's earth shaker, I feel like I'm better equipped to understand than ever before.
As for the book itself: this was a difficult read for me. Maybe due to what I mentioned above. Maybe it was the shock value. Maybe I wasn't ready to have my preconceived notions about female sexulaity shaken to the core. But in my opinion it was a must read for me.
As for the story: In think the difficulty I had reading it was the first person narrative. When reading third person narratives the reader is delegated to that of an outside party. Somewhat of a voyeur if you will. It's a safe way to observe the events on the story. Not so with first person. The reader is right there with the character. Couple that with me being a clueless man, watching through the eyes of a beautiful young woman as she explores here fantasies, and you have a recipe for male over hill uneasiness in way over his head.
Oh, but what a ride.
Sophie and her husband Paul, are young professional Londoners, who live a nice safe life. Then one day all that comes into question, and Sophie see's her life as perhaps unfulfilled. They've fallen into that inevitable rut that most marriages, even good ones, fall into. A rut that Sophie was even unaware of, but once she did an epiphany takes place. An awakening of her very being. After she realizes that her life needed a boost, she confronts her husband with what she's about to do. For his part, Paul was very supportive of her planned endeavor, and thusly armed Sophie began a journey to find herself. Not only does she find the sexual being, that had been dormant, perhaps even suppressed, but she finds empowerment, not just as a woman, but as a professional.
That's all I'm going to say about the plot. Because while the plot is important, the real teeth of Sophie's Valentine are the scenes where she discovers herself. That this has vivid sexuality, is pretty much a given. That it is presented via first person female makes it uniquely visual in my eyes. I highly recommend this wonderfully written book to both men and women, because both genders will perhaps discover part of themselves.
This book from a new author in the genre was read and reviewed by Mrs R as I felt it would be more to her taste.
Her initial thought was it was aimed at the female market, but by the end, she decided it would be enjoyed by anyone into Hotwife stories.
Sophie is a 30-something wife whose life is in a rut, she is bored with her job and her husband tells her their sex life has become predictable and stale.
Taking matters into her own hands, this is her journey to becoming a confident woman and vixen. Seizing control, she explores her sexuality as she desires and at the same time discovers her husband’s kink and reigniting their relationship.
A slow starter that is worth preserving for the action that follows.
This was my first time reading hotwife-themed books, and I was really blown away by the good story told to us. It has a good plot and good characters to read about and learn from their experiences and feelings. Also, it is very hot. It is an excellent book and I can only wait for a new story with Sophie Valentine
Good relatable fun about a subject that isn't often addressed: marital bed death. As in, the sex just dwindles. This short story outlines a pretty sensible way of addressing this if this is happening to you, although the heroine does do a couple of really silly things involving the shower where she works. Silly, silly woman...
The reason I'm giving it 4* is because the paragraphing is slightly off and the ending was rather abrupt. I understand there is more to come in subsequent books, but either do a cliffhanger or don't - don't just cut it off in the middle of nowhere.
Story about a married couple bored with their sex life, so I bed, tell of their fantasies. It turns out wife has not much experience with other men so husband encourages her to go out and fulfill her fantasies. With the help of a big dicked camera man, that's what she does! Book is one sex scene after the other, culminating in a big orgy scene..where husband is in all this, who knows. He seems to be OK with everything she does and she professes her love for him but really !!! Can't see it myself unless of course, husband is off plowing his own field! Very sexy read but not realistic for me..
I did not expect this book to offer so much. I sometimes enjoy spice, and it is very erotic, but it's so much more than that. Following Sophie Valentine through her transformation in confidence and experience has made me live in a different way. I'll never be as sexually adventerous as she became, but her changing attitude towards love life and work will influence me for a long time. All women should read this and be empowered. Anyone in relationships should read this and will have truly honest conversations with their partners, maybe for the first time ever. Highly recommended.
3.5 stars How do you say you sex life if boring without saying boring. Well Sophie finds out and does something brave and adventurous about. We follow Sophie as she explores her sexuality and add spice to her life. Hot and spicy with some interesting characters. Sophie journey not only helps her marriage, it also opens her mind and gives her more confidence in other aspects of her life, like her career. Short but still a full story.
A very Erotic read!!! A must for couples that feel their s*x lives can’t get any better! I’ll leave it to the very confident and talented Sophie Valentine to explain the details 😉~HHW
This is one of the sexiest books I have read. Gave me lots of new ideas which I know my husband enjoyed! If this book doesn't make you horny then nothing will xx Amanda
Get ready for all the heat! Sophie's marriage is in a bit of a rut and she wants to spice things up. After a discussion about sexual fantasies with her husband, she gets a little daring and turns in to a proper hotwife! Sophie's adventures in navigating her new-found confidence and sexual appetite lead to a series of very steamy scenes that any reader with an open mind can appreciate. This wasn't a "romance" story with a requisite HEA in the traditional sense, for me. Sophie and her husband are happily married but want a little more. Her encounters with other men were not cheating since she and her husband discussed her having these meet-ups and she talked to him after, as well. It was all part of the lifestyle they were exploring. I think the story did a good job of showing what the communication should be like between a couple considering a hotwife lifestyle. That was probably the part that helped me see they were both being honest with their fantasies, their expectations, and their feelings about it all, and that they were happy with each other and the activities. *Disclaimer: The author gifted me a copy of this book for an honest review.
I loved this book! The way that Sophia Valentine handles her stagnant marriage with her husband Paul is unconventional, but genius. Instead of heading to divorce court, she finds a way to bring her own sexy back which ends up bringing her sexy back into her marriage. By exploring her sexuality, Sophia gains the confidence she has always wanted to feel as a women. My favorite or most intriguing character was Nathan. She met him on a dating site and what a gem he turned out to be. He was her camera man, with benefits. Loved this guy! I am a women with an open mind. I can really see this story as a viable solution to a marriage that needs to find that spark again. Most, unfortunately, would just end up in divorce or even worse, staying in an unhappy or unfulfilling life. This story, in my opinion, should be a conversation piece in any marriage that seems to be standing still. This was a really fun and exciting read. Congratulations to the author on this incredibly exciting and relatable story. I look forward to reading more!
Sophie Valentine: A stunning exploration of the power of feminism in the modern world, sexy, erotic and truly thrilling
Sophie Valentine excites on many fronts; it's not just another contrived story about a billionaire dominant boss subduing a sexy siren. It's truly an exploration of the power of feminism. The rollicking tale traces a sexy woman's growth from conventional conformity to erotic free-thinker.
Like many self-published books, it's rough around the edges. There are typos, word-choice errors, and even occasional sentences where the writer changes thoughts midstream. If grammar perfection is a must for you, the lack of professional editing may be a dealbreaker. It was not for me. The freshness of her approach, the importance advancing feminist sensuality, not to mention the 99-cent price on Kindle, smoothed over the rough edges for me, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book.
wow, full of spiceeeee, if your looking for a read that has some steam then this is it. Sophie Valentine a wife who is in a stagment marriage but brings the spice and steam back to life in unconvential ways. Sophie explores her sexuality and whilst doing so gains confidence by the abundance and not just in her sex appeal
I really enjoyed reading this book with the way the marriage unconventionally goes down a path you wouldn’t expect and deam ok . My only critique would be be the way the book ended I felt it could have ended a little different I felt it just ended a little abruptly but that’s just my opinion it doesn’t take anything away from the book. 41/2 *
The story of a woman taking control of her life in and out of the bedroom, Sophie Valentine is the Bridget Jones for female sexual empowerment. Facing the realization her marriage suffers from the dreaded dead bedroom, Sophie tasks herself with not just putting heat back into the relationship with her husband, but to also go after the kind of sex she wants, strictly on her terms. The confidence she acquires through her carnal adventures has a knock-on effect on other parts of her life, and particularly her efforts to revive a stalled career. A fun, breezy and erotic read, Sophie Valentine is the Fear of Flying for the 2020s.
I like going on this journey with the writer and Sophie. The character arc for Sophie moves fast and steady into the world of being sexually and professionally independent, Taking every right step pursuing her dreams and leaving her old self behind. I think each one of us has such phases in life where you can relate to this lady and read about her how she takes all the positive steps towards her freedom.
In terms of being a pureplay erotica, I would say the sex is well defined and would make you lustful for sure reading through it. ;)
Sophie has hit the dull marriage blues and decides to do something about it. Instead of marriage counseling she tries a very unconventional way of handling the problem. While not for everyone, I found this book to be a rousing success. Danielle Aimie has found a different way to deal with the issue of a dull marriage by letting us see it from the woman's side. Marvelous!!!
Sophie was informed by her husband that their routine had become boring. Sophie had misheard and thought he said their sex was boring.
The damage was done though. In her mind she has set off on a path that has led her to fantasies and exploring different areas of sex, sexual encounters and experiences.
Upon a calmer mind she talks things through with her husband Paul and then a plan formulates. With his agreement she sets off to explore her fantasies.
This was a trip. I kind of expected this upon reading the blurb but yeah I was still shocked.
Just so we are clear, I am no where near a prude I am all for everyone experiences in what ever shape or form I was just wowed I guess.
That said I have to say it was hot as well. Like seriously HOT. Danielle should absolutely continue this story on especially where it finished I could definitely keep reading. 📚
It wasn't badly written. Sometimes Sophie came across as very selfish but at the same time this is the point. She was exploring her wants and desires so I kind of got that. Paul I did not get. He seemed like he just....I don't know took his wife doing it. But hey whatever floats ya boat I say.
Overall enjoyed the book and I do hope to read more!
I was asked to review by Danielle Aimie and provided a copy via smashwords.📚
Such a great book! Kept me intrigued, and made me feel like my fantasies could be reality. My imagination danced with these characters in my head. Loved it
i really enjoyed this book , i found it very interesting and insightful , once i started reading it i couldn't put it down , i cant wait tho read more by danielle aimie !
Sophie Valentine isn’t our typical romance heroine; she isn’t looking for love, she has already found it- what Sophie is looking for is heat.
What Sophie needs is spice and heat and confidence; when she finds it sparks fly in the sexiest and most entertaining way, even if the way she goes about ending her sexual apathy and the boredom in her marriage is wildly unconventional.
Danielle Amie’s writing is sparkling, smart, and so much fun; anybody looking for a quick spicy read should get all over Sophie’s story!
