Honey and Ice #4

Thorn Kissed and Silver Chains

Rate this book
A continuation in the world of Honey and Ice . . .with new characters, new loves, new enemies . . .

Underhill is my ruthless mother. Her realm is my deadly home. The brutal creatures here are both foe and friend.

But the group of fae that just attacked me? They're all foe. Dragged from my game of hide-and-seek with a dragon, and my home of twenty-one years, I'm thrust into a weak, ugly realm.

Earth.

Something is taking the fae children of the Irish court, and an Oracle has declared I must find them. Nope. Not my problem. Bye. Except a three-year-old girl they suspect is the next Queen of All Fae was taken too. She's crucial to the success of my mother's work and the wellbeing of all, including these simpering fae who've forgotten who they are.

Now they have my attention.

The child-snatching darkness flickers in and out of sight, spreading in secret, reaching through cracks and fissures to seize and steal the innocent. Yet I earned each breath in my life by understanding that which seeks to kill me. I will learn the ways of this enemy and find its lair, ideally without the Seelie and Unseelie males who only slow me—even if they're not quite as stupid as most Earth-dwelling fae.

All I'm sure of is that Underhill is testing me. My mother is testing me in her typical, brutal fashion. And I will not fail.

If you adore Jennifer L. Armentrout, Sarah J. Mass, Holly Black or Elise Kova, you'll love this escape into a world of fae where heart-aching romance exists and the odds seem impossible.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far away, I was born into a family of Star Wars nuts. I have a lot of siblings (somewhere I lost count but I think there was more than could be numbered on one hand) and being one of the young padawans I was subjected to Star Wars marathons, on a regular basis. If you've read any of my books you'll see there is often a reference to said movies as a small homage to my upbringing. May the force be with you and all that jazz.

I started writing when I realized I didn't want to grow up not believing in magic, or not believing in creatures everyone else said didn't exist. That being said, I have never seen a fairy, unicorn or dragon. I had a neighbour who swore they fed the leprechauns in their garden, but I never caught the little buggers no matter how long I lay in wait. (And consequently had to help the neighbours plant new flowers to replace those I killed waiting for the leprechauns to show their faces.)

Along the way, I found my husband who is the rock that keeps me from floating away into my dreams, and we have a little boy who is the centre of our world. Living on a farm keeps us busy (as if the writing wasn't enough) and I have more than my share of stories about wrestling with cows, helping birth calves and ending up in the creek during the process, falling in the mud (we'll call it mud but we all know that on a farm, mud is rarely mud) and chasing escaped livestock in the hopes the four legged convicts don't make it to the highway.

I've taken up archery, and the goal is to move into horseback archery in time (you know, when I can hit the target on a consistent basis) and when no one is looking, I love to bake (this doesn't happen often as it's hard to keep the sweet treats in stock with two boys in the house.)

As to what's coming next for me? More stories (since those never stop inside my head, I might as well share them with all of you!) and more adventures. Pretty much, when the fancy strikes, I'll jump on it. Leap before you look I'm sure that motto was created for me.

Or was that . . . think big and dream bigger, ready, set, pull the trigger . . . yeah. That one is a good one too. But only if you have a gun. And are hunting elephants. Which is not cool because of so many reasons. Let's stick with the first one with an addendum.

Leap before you look and let your dreams carry you on their wings. And that, my friends, is me in a nutshell.

Update: It turned out to be neither horrible nor brilliant, just not really worth it.

❌ I made it to 11% in before I threw in the towel. In fact, that 11% came WAY earlier than I was expecting, because this book is really short. It's only 271 pages, so you already know something must have been sacrificed for it to be that length.

❌ It turns out that what was sacrificed was any attempt to catch new readers up with the 'world of honey and ice'. (Which reminds me, have I mentioned yet how much I loathe titles that go 'A Court of Something and Something'? Because the original series did that and it was just as irritating as you'd expect.) Even though this is a spinoff series, the fact that this is the first book means there should have been SOMETHING in the way of exposition. Unfortunately, you're just dropped in it as a reader, left to deal with nagas and a maternal Underhill and some kind of prophecy without getting any much-needed background. At least, that background doesn't come in the first 11% I read, which you'd think would be a pretty good place for background.

❌ The linguistic plot holes are already apparent. Our main character, whose name I've already forgotten, is some sort of wild fae princess who doesn't know Earth words like 'lingerie' and 'makeup'. Yet she knows pretty much every word necessary to make her sound like an American 20-something, not least 'shit' and 'home turf'. (According to the OED, 'home turf' is a phrase of 19th-century American origin, which makes sense as it's never felt massively popular in the UK, but I see Americans use it quite frequently). Anyway, the point is that inconsistencies like this really bug me. She was also written as having a very odd speech style, which inconsistently appeared and reappeared as needed.

❌ The cute little animal sidekick is already annoying me, I'm sorry... the heroine randomly acquires a pet bat who can talk to her, and it doesn't just talk. It sounds like a bloody mix-up between Cher from Clueless and an 80-year-old, proverb-loving grandma. Not sure I've conveyed that correctly, but that's the impression I get... Also, the bat gushes about how 'hot' the fae guy is, so effectively it fulfils exactly the same role as the bumbling airhead best friend so many NA heroines are saddled with.

Overall

Yeah, this is probably going to be the last St Clare co-write I read. I'll just wait for her to go back to producing good books on her own.

Things to know going in:
It's a reverse harem/why choose novel. I missed this peace of news and just dove in without even reading the synopsis because I generally just love Kelly's books, so that's my bad. It's important to me to rate it for what the book is and not what I wanted it to be. With that being said,
I like Silver, I really really do. Her journey is unique and yet we get some familiarity with old characters from the prior Honey and Ice series (Yes, Hyacinth is still bae).

The two males? I suppose they are ok? I'm not going to speak on this too much as in general, I don't feel like we get true focus and as much development as I would like in why choose novels. But, for my hatred of them, our 2 men are....entertaining.

I was really interested in Underhill as a living sentient character as well. We touched upon this in the last book and you get a second look at her and her personality right from the get go in the prologue. I was a sucker for it.

For those who loved the Honey and Ice journey and don't mind (or love!) RH novels, you won't want to miss Silver's story!

A note of warning: I would recommend reading the first series prior to starting Thorn Kissed and Silver Chains. I suppose it could be read as a stand alone, but you'll likely be really really confused on a lot of the characters and wonder why some characters are there in the background not being developed (because they were done so in the prior series.)

(4.5⭐️) I wasn’t sure what to expect going into Thorn Kissed and Silver Chains by @hijinksink and @kellystclare but I never doubt Shannon! I mean, she made me fall for a golden retriever, so she has my eternal trust ♥️

This story is so unique, it’s almost hard to describe … but I’ll give it a shot! We meet a young woman living in the world of Underhill, who we later call Silver. She’s a fighter in every sense of the word, but she’s captured and taken to the human realm after the Oracle declares that she is the key to saving the children who have gone missing - one of which is the future queen of the Fae.

The story starts a little slow as we learn about the two worlds, the creatures, and the different powers they possess. But it really takes off once the quest begins, where Silver faces multiple obstacles and tests to both her power and her fate.

Accompanied by Aaden - the Fae with green eyes, ambition, and a huge heart - and Cormac - our broody wolf trying to save his niece - these three form a unique bond with unexpected tension that I’m excited to see grow!

The last 10% of this book was a whirlwind and I can’t wait for book two! Also, I wanna be best friends with Orry, she had me cracking up!!

** It’s worth noting that this is book four in this world. The first three focus on one story and this book kicks off Silver’s. You don’t need to read the first three to read this 😁

0.5/5 stars. Wow the main characters of this book was so much worse than the girl from the last 3 books... I am not a fan of a love triangle and even less of a fan of whatever happened in this book. The only thing semi-good about this book was that the plot was semi-interesting and I'll read the next one since I think I know where its going but I want to know how it ends.

Not like the rest of the series

The first three books were a delightful, intense adventure. This felt like a fever dream. I hope the next installment goes back to the same coherent story as the rest of the story.

I am such a sucker for a book with a quest and this book is exactly that! Thank you Bilbo Baggins for making me a glutton for any quest in any book! lol

This book is the start of a new series within the world of Honey & Ice created by the talented Mayer and St. Clare. While yes, you can read this alone without having read the other books, but... what would the fun of that be? Get your buns back to the first book and start there so you can really get a feel for the world and all the ruthless qualities that inhabit it!

But I digress.

With this book, you get an epic quest, prophecies, magical abilities, lost kids (I'm a sucker for a cause), and some nasty fae that really need their mothers to go back in time and spank them.

Silver is our main character that plays games with dragons and has never been outside of her home, but is now the main person who can help find these lost kids. She has some major heart and a major stubborn streak but it makes me love her all the more. Time is ticking and Silver will stop at nothing to figure things out.

I highly recommend picking this up, either first or after you've read the original series. Highly worth the anticipation!

I really enjoyed the Honey and Ice series so I was excited to start this book.  While this writing duo still gives us quirky characters, I will say it was hard to warm up to Silver in the beginning and I felt like Cormac and Aaden.  But as Silver's awkwardness grew on me, I began to trust her the way I trust Kallik in Honey and Ice.  Cormac and Aaden balance each other out and since Silver is all about balance this threesome is going to prove to be very interesting...because they are like oil and water at times.

While this series is connected with crossover characters, new readers can still follow the storyline.  For those that have, there are going to be a few WTF moments when comments are made about Kallik.  So much so that I had to go back and read the last book just to see if I missed something at the end.  There are going to be some twists and I can't wait to find out what they are.

“Those are the worst types of hurts. The ones where you’ve got to separate the love and hate, the likes and dislikes, before you can understand how you feel.”

I was quite excited for this spinoff because I loved Honey & Ice series and it didn’t disappoint! Silver is such a unique character. She filled these pages with pure entertainment! I also realized that I’ll never like Kik. And that’s OK 😂

The two MCs were impeccable! Both so different yet so alike in their loyalty. I’m still not sure how to process the ending… it’s a hard one, guys.😭

Hyacinth is still one of my favorite characters in this world and I just can’t wait to see our beloved… oracle… yet again 😎💃🏻 (her soul has legs…. All the feels. All the feels)

What’s inside:
🖤enemies to lovers
🖤why choose
🖤quest
🖤crime to solve
🖤spinoff of Honey & Ice

NA. 4 stars ⭐️ Thank you so much Shannon Mayer, Kelly St. Clare, and @the.bookish.besties for this eARC.

While this was good, I was a little disappointed with it, really. I guess I expected it to be better?

I liked Islbet and her feral nature. That was probably my favourite part. I liked the main storyline well enough, although it felt what what thrown together or a bit disjointed... It's hard to put my finger on what bugged me about it.

I think my biggest issue was the romance. I've got no issue with RH, although with two guys I would say menage rather than RH, but I didn't really feel the chemistry with either of them, which was a shame.

I'll still read the next, though.

I nearly put this book down after the first chapters & I would of missed out on a great story with fantastic characters if I had , never judge a book by it's start is my new motto..You can't help but like Silver she's definitely a que sera sera type of person & I've never encountered a hornless unicorn before but I liked this one . Once the story for going it was fast paced ,witty at times & by the end you need the next book asap

I really didn’t enjoy this book. Which was disappointing because I did like the other series that takes place in this world. This one however was a very strange story. It was boring and the writing was just not good. And I rarely say that because writing is subjective. It was boring. There was no real storyline. It was confusing. I didn’t care about any of the characters. There was no relationship development for anyone. It seems just thrown together. I really didn’t get it.

*Thoughts*

Thorn Kissed and Silver Chains is the first installment in the authors World of Honey and Ice series by authors Shannon Mayer, and Kelly St. Clare. Apparently, according to my trusty notes, this story takes place after the ending of the co-authors previous series. Once could legitimately call this book # 4 is the authors Honey and Ice series but with a new cast of characters and a few returning ones including Queen Hyacinth and Kik, land kelpie.

**3.5 STARS**

Well, I wasn’t planning on reading this spin-off but I was bored and wanted to make use of my Kindle Unlimited subscription so why not! Plus I did enjoy Honey and Ice series a lot. So here is what I thought:

+ Our main character is nameless until one of her potential love interests names her Silver. She is feral and her mother is Underhill. If you read the Honey and Ice series you would know who/what Underhill is. Anyway, Silver is not anyone to mess with, she is powerful, strong, brave and reckless but it’s fun to see her kicking butt.

+~ There is a reverse harem situation or menage a trois thing going on with Silver, Aaden who is a Seelie Fae and Cormac, who is an Unseelie Fae. Honestly didn’t know this going into the story, because I was definitely rooting for bad boy Cormac but it seems like for now she’s vibing with both guys. Thing is, I’m not the biggest fan of reverse harem but at least there isn’t five guys for her to choose from, two I can deal with. I’m not sure how I feel about the ending of this book yet – but it’s definitely not what I expected.

+ This is a very quick read at under 300 pages long. It’s definitely pure escapism especially if you love the world of Faerie. By the way I loved her bat companion Orry, she’s funny, she’s my favorite character I think.

~ I really need to know what the deal is with the thorns. There are so many questions and no answers yet.

~ Silver is feral and speaks that way. She doesn’t speak in long sentences until later in the book when she all of a sudden does? I kind of felt like that was distracting because then she reverted back to simple speech. That threw me off.

~ If this is a reverse harem/menage give us some steam. This one definitely is only a teaser of things to come. But there was always something stopping these three. Aaden is okay – he doesn’t intrigue me much. Cormac, definitely is the one I wanted her to end up with but I guess the theme of this book is “balance”…so we will see what will happen with this threesome.

Tropes: feral girl, reverse harem

Why you should read it:

you liked the Honey and Ice series
there is a reverse harem romance brewing with a feral girl, alpha male and a sweet male
Why you might not want to read it:

not into any mentioned above
My Thoughts:

I found the start of this series quite entertaining but I’m not sure how I feel about the romance aspect of it yet. I like Silver and her being feral, but it would be nice if she stayed in character especially with her speech. Orry was my favorite part of this book for sure. I’ll definitely give book two a try and see what happens after the cliffhanger ending we got in this book.

Highly anticipated and one of my favorites of '22!

Spin offs are not always great, sometimes they are mediocre. Yet this particular spin off to the Honey and Ice Trilogy? Well, it's fantastic! Set 3 years after the events in Crown of Petals and Ice, it's filled with all the wild action, mysterious happenings, and comedic relief you could want, along with slow burn steam. This can be read alone, however, to understand Underhill & the events leading up to this book, it wouldn't hurt to go back and read the trilogy. There are some Easter eggs and old friends that show up, but it is mostly about the feral-raised Silver in all her stark honesty, belief in balance, and endearing naïvety. Her upbringing broke my heart in some ways, but without it, she couldn't be the ultimate kickass female she is.
I loved "Silver", enjoyed seeing Kik and Queen of all Fae again, and adored little Orlaith "Orry", the golden bat with a hairstyling fetish, who is so much more than she appears. (She reminds me of Lila from the Desert Cursed series.) I can't wait to get her backstory! Then there's "Green Orbs" Aaden who understands "Silver's" succinct speech, and then grumpy Cormac AKA "Asshole" who also understands her & is much like her in their fighting, but annoys her and has "Silver" wanting to unalive him from their first meeting. Both males are interested and it makes for hilarity when her views of attractiveness were taught by a land Kelpie who prefers horse attributes over all.
Toss in an evil invasion and missing children, and you have a wild romp in and out of fae and human lands. I ripped through so fast, hardly able to stop and deal with holiday preparations, and stayed up late into the night just to find out what was going to happen next.
I have my theories of what may happen from the clues dropped, but will keep them to myself here. For if there's anything I know about the writing duo of Shannon Mayer & Kelly St. Clare, they'll point you one direction, but tap your opposite shoulder & like spin the bottle, you'll land in a completely unseen direction! I love twists, especially one's that I never see coming, and these authors are experts at it.
That ending! Such a hook! I turned the page, and felt like I'd been in a full speed carriage that suddenly came to a jarring stop and was still rocking! The next book can't come fast enough, I need to know all the things!

I also grabbed the audiobook, and it was well done, with my favorite side character being Orry the bat!

An Edge-of-Your-Seat, Harrowing, Spin-Off Quest

Thorn Kissed and Silver Chains was a solid 3.5 into 4-star read. I took off a star and a half because I struggled to start. It took several chapters for me to engage, and then a chapter or two more to connect with the characters. Part of the cause was the jarring, jerking speech of Silver, our protagonist. I both enjoyed and was frustrated by this ‘Underhill-speak.’ Secondly, I felt like I was missing pieces of the story to begin, and I might have benefited from a re-read of the original trilogy prior to reading book four. Of note, these are both author-intended style choices that are influenced by the reader’s personal preferences/thoughts, so they may not bother everyone. Overall, I am so glad that I persevered because this book is well worth it.

Authors Mayer and St. Clare have a talent with world-building, character development, and plot twists. With each book, their voices and writing blends even better. Watch for easter eggs, both from within this series and others by these authors. And, oh, the emotional roller coasters these ladies make readers ride. Bravo!

A High-level Summary:

🌱Length: Novel

🔗Genre: Fantasy – high, portal, and urban fantasy elements with fae, shifters, witches, and magic, etc.

🌱POV: First person, female main character

🔗Age: New adult

🌱Warnings: Language, violence, and sexual content

🔗Spice: Mild/Moderate; there is on the page descriptions as things heat up; “why choose”/multiple love interests with sharing

🌱Violence: Moderate, action-focused, though there are a few feral characters

🔗Editing: No noticeable issues

🌱World: Earth realm and parallel/portal worlds

🔗Series: Honey and Ice - Book 4; this is a spin-off, so you do not have to read the first three books, but I highly recommend it as you will get so much more from the story

🌱Tropes: Fate, chosen one, enemies-to-lovers, balance of good and evil

🔗Ending: The initial storyline has a resolution, but there is a hook for the next book and the overall adventure has not been completed

🌱Continue the series? Yep, I will definitely read the next installment

I really enjoyed the previous trilogy in this world and was looking forward to jumping in to this new series. Apparently, this is the first book in a brand new spin off but set in the same world as the original series. Unfortunately, it did not have the same impact on me and I had several problems trying to settle in to this one.

First of all, the new female MC - Silver - is hard to like. She has sporadic bouts of issues with her language. At the beginning, she is speaking in words only, like a cave person and has no idea about life in the human realm, Then as things progress, there are sections of the book where she was able to speak perfectly, sometimes in complex sentences (and not only that, but with current slang as well) and then, a paragraph or two later, she was back to the one word grunts. The consistency (or lack there of ) really did not settle well with me and only served to pull me out of the story.

Then there was the odd relationship with the Silver and the 2 male MC's. I was not aware at the beginning of this that it was going to be a RH. I have absolutely no problem with RH's, but this one felt like it wasn't sure what it wanted to be...RH? Or not?

Without going into spoilers, at the end, I'm not even sure what this qualified as. Did it actually count as an RH? I don't know, Truly, I have no clue. The whole thing was odd.

Then there was the entire plot. As I mentioned before, I really enjoyed the first trilogy. This new book just felt very chaotic. There were things that didn't feel cohesive and because of that, I had issues with the whole goal and game plan of our MC's. And then Orry? She is a bat (granted, there is SERIOUS back story there that we are not yet told) but her commentary was just way out there. It didn't make sense with who and WHAT she was.

So - this writing team has built up credit with me so I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. But I will say this....if this was a brand new book by a new author, I would NOT be continuing on with this series.....

Welcome back to the world of Underhill

At the decree of the Oracle, an unnamed girl, the daughter of Underhill, must be found. She must undertake a quest to find and free the stolen children of the Fae, including the young queen of all Fae.

This begins Thorn Kissed and Silver Chains, the 4th book in the Honey and Ice series by authors Shannon Mayer and Kelly St.Clare.

This daughter of Underhill is quite the wild animal when a contigent of soldiers find her. Fierce, filthy, and unfortunately, injured, she is captured and taken, treated as a monster, barely human. One of the soldiers calls her Silver, for her barely visible hair color, and the name sticks.

Silver is rough around the edges, having only had contact with her mother, Underhill, and a few characters we met throughout the first 3 books. She is out of her element, trying to navigate this new world, using the lessons of Underhill to guide her. But nothing has prepared her for what awaits her, or the attraction she feels for the soldiers that join her on this quest.

Thorn Kissed and Silver Chains is seamlessly written between St. Clare and Mayer, nothing you wouldn't expect from their caliber of talent, but seeing it executed flawlessly makes a reader happy. The world building is spot on, and the descriptions of action scenes are so clear, you never need reread to understand what just took place. This book is the full package of what a fantasy read should be.

High fantasy, adventure, budding romance, snarky sidekicks, a timer ticking down on a life or death quest, what more do you need for a rollicking good read? Humor, intrigue, Easter Eggs, it's all here. Bring some tissues for the final chapters, a twist will leave you weepy. And if you remember the final chapters of A Crown of Petals and Ice (Book 3), you might even get an inkling as to who's who! I can't wait to see what Shannon Mayer and Kelly St.Clare have in store for Silver, and us, in Book 5!

I loved this book so much. I love a book that is well written and has a story line that pulls you into the story. Characters that you can root for or that you love to hate. This book is all of that and more. This book is full of magic, a wonderfully strong main protagonist. I love Silver and her pure heart. She is naive about so much of the outside world but knows that her instincts and reflexes are what often keep her alive in Underhill.
Silver is not afraid to tease dragons but when it comes to the world outside of Underhill she is lost. She knows nothing about the world outside of Underhill. She is about to learn more about that world than she might like.
Something is stealing children and the Oracle has sent word that Silver can help get them back. The ruler of the Fae has sent some of her soldiers to Underhill to search for Silver and to bring her back to help find the missing children.
Silver is not an easy person to find and even less easy to talk to especially when you are trying to capture her and not talk.
I love the brave little sidekick that Silver ends up with.
Aaden seems to be a kind soul and Silver doesn't think he is bad to look at either. Owen on the other hand was a male that Silver would dearly love to hurt.
When the future queen of all the Fae is taken Silver, Aaden and Owen must work together to find her and the other children before it is too late.
I love the pace of this story, I love the adventure that it takes you on and the world that is built with so much detail that you can picture it in your mind while you are reading.
If you love a story full of action, suspense, twists, magic, adventure, a touch of heat, and a great plot then this book is for you.

WOW!!!!!

If you haven’t read the Honey and Ice trilogy, you’ll want to read those to understand Underhill and “its ways”. It’s not a prerequisite but it would be helpful and you would recognize two characters who make appearances as well as references of the last series MC. There is also another character from a Shannon series that makes a surprise cameo.

Children of earth Fae are being kidnapped by a force no Fae on earth can fight, much less defeat. They are in fear for the future Queen of All Fae. Enter Silver, in a most dramatic fashion, who is thrust from her Underhill home to the Earth realm. She has been sent to restore balance in the realm and she has no idea why or how.

This book has it all. The “say it like it is, no bs” MC, Silver is simply awesome. There are two hot guys, Aaden and Cormac, who are complete opposites, and an absolutely adorable and hilarious sidekick anyone would want to have. Orlaith. She reminds me of a cross between Lyla (Shannon’s Desert Cursed) and Kinkly (Shannon’s Forty Proof). I wasn’t sure what to expect in the first book of this new trilogy but I can say that, in my opinion, Shannon and Kelly have outdone themselves. All kinds of magic from different beings and sources.

Don’t miss this book! It is fast paced and a wild ride in so many different ways. Just when you think you have something figured out, Shannon and Kelly laugh and say “Surprise!!” It has me still trying to figure out what happened and what will happen. The wait for book two is going to be a little excruciating for me.

Decent Start

This book takes place after Rubehazel’s defeat. It’s been about 3 years since then. I found issue with this timeline since silver, our FMC, lived in Underhill and underhill was broken in that series. Yet, silver doesn’t seem to have much knowledge of any of that.
Second issue, Mayer and her star crossed lover trope kills me. Every book I read by Mayer I think we might finally have some smutty time but we get a taste then it’s ripped away from us. St.Clare normally brings the steam and I thought we might get some from her but nope we didn’t.
We learn a ton about Silver while also learning nothing. We are presented with tons of questions and basically zero answers. I like when a series has a progression. This is supposed to be a trilogy and I hope it doesn’t follow the same path as the other series in this world. One where we get all these questions in book 1 & 2 and then bam an overload of answers in book 3 that feels rushed.
We learn next to nothing about the MMCs and the development of relationships is all based on their feeling when they touch. There is little dialogue between them and even less opening up. No one is trying to help Silver acclimate to this new world even though they know she grew up alone in underhill.
Also for people who Revere underhill why do people treat Silver with such disrespect?
So all in all it was fine but I’m not holding my breath probably because I hated book 2/3 of the last series in this world. Maybe I’m not giving it a fair chance. You read it and decide.

Unique and Twisty… Nothing is as it seems with Underhill!

When these two authors get together and write, there is something seriously magical and unique that happens… I am so drawn to their combined writing. I’m going to try to keep this spoiler free… Trust me on this, you need to experience this one without any preconceptions!!! Even if you have read their prior Trilogy based in this world.
This is a new series within a world we know all too well from the Honey and Ice Trilogy… Or do we?!
I loved returning to this world and getting to reconnect to some of the characters of the prior trilogy… However, make no mistake, this new timeline and this heroine is like nothing I’ve ever read before. Silver is such an unique character, and her development has been very entertaining to read… so much fun already, and this is just book 1 of the series.
I immediately found myself drawn in and wanting to learn more about who she is, where she really comes from and what will happen to her. In this first installment, I did get some answers, and even more questions that are yet to be uncovered. I completely enjoyed the banter between her and the other cast of characters, and found myself laughing out loud on more than one occasion. I mean who knew Naga tastes like chicken! 🤣
I cannot express enough how unique this character and storyline is, and I’m so excited for the next book to release in February.

Stranger in a strange land to the rescue!

Oh goody a quest!!! Me likey a good quest 😉. Especially with lots of snark and an amazingly fierce and awesome FMC at the center of everything. I'm thrilled to be back in the same world as the HONEY AND ICE TRILOGY. We see a few familiar faces make appearances along the way. Dive into this wonderful adventure as Silver tries to find out who/what is stealing fae children from the kingdom. Apparently The Oracle thinks she's the ONLY one who can find out the why of it all. Strange things are afoot both with Underhill and the land of fae. Silver is out of her depth, and only has these strange men and a talking bat named Orry to help her find the kids. Get ready for all kinds of excitement along the way. There's danger, magic, mystery, intrigue, action, adventure-and a unique, resilient, fearless, talented, strong, brave, and flat out awesome female at the heart of it all. This book does a great job of introducing us to these characters and the start of the quest. I absolutely loved reading this one. I was a huge fan of the original trilogy, and this was just as great a read!! After that ending I already can't wait to see what's next!! Two very enthusiastic thumbs up!! P.S. watch out for wooden spoons 😉

This might be the world of Honey and Ice, but don’t expect it to be anything like that. This is a very different series, with mostly new characters, it just involves the fae worlds. It's more NA than YA too.
It’s forty years later (I could be very wrong on that timeframe, that’s just what I think I read) and starts off with a wildling child of Underhill who has raised herself in this ruthless world.
They’ve invented a way of speaking for her that’s meant to be somewhat primitive and paired down to basics, but it’s just super annoying. And her thoughts don’t match her speech (thankfully) but that doesn’t make a huge amount of sense. Especially when she doesn’t understand ‘regular’ human speech, which is how her thoughts are organised. It makes it really hard to warm up to the character, because you truly just want her to stop talking at every moment.
It's mostly a travelling fantasy, which are my favourite sort, but predominantly set in the human world, so not a huge amount of world building going on.
The big bad is intriguing and it gives you enough conclusion to be happy at the end point while still leaving some story hanging.
It's sort of a love triangle/possible menage, but the ending sets it up to just be off doing its own thing.

Okay, Thorn Kissed and Silver Chains gave me everything I crave from a fae fantasy! Sharp edges, dark humour, dangerous beauty, and just enough chaos to make my mortal brain short circuit.

We’re back in the Honey and Ice world, but with fresh blood (literally). We have new characters, new enemies, and a FMC who absolutely refuses to play nice.

I listened to this one on audio, and wow… the narration was chef’s kiss. Perfectly captured that dangerous fae energy and the main character’s ruthless, defiant attitude.

Our girl has grown up in Underhill, where “home” is more a survival game than a cozy hearth. She’s dragged to Earth (ugh, the weak realm), and suddenly tasked with finding missing fae children, including a three year old destined to be Queen of All Fae. And once her mother’s involved? Oh, it’s personal.

The story is lush, tense, and brimming with mystery, layered with just the right amount of snark and vulnerability.

There’s danger, reluctant alliances, and that signature Mayer & St. Clare mix of high stakes magic and emotional bite.

It’s a darker, more mature expansion of the Honey and Ice universe! I'ts full of heart, grit, and thorn tipped beauty. I need book 5 ......now!
