It was interesting to read about the commaraderie and friendships between Bessie and the community spirit during the second world war.

A lovely story set during world war two. I find I really enjoy reading a Pam Evans book between grittier novels and although the stories are lighter they are non the less a very good read.
This story features Bessie and her family and friends. She works in a local post office, which often becomes a meeting place for the community. Life during the war in London is hard, lives are lost but among all the sadness life goes on and there are also new beginnings.

The story was good, but so much of it was told as dialogue - and very tedious, repetitive dialogue at that! Such as shame, but I found it very, very annoying

It was a really easy and enjoyable read. The only critism I have is that the book felt a little rushed at times with some of the storylines but overall a good read.

Really good storyline, a book that really captures the emotions, trials and tribulations of war time.

The story took a little dip in the middle and was very much dialoged but it was a good read

I have loved every book by this author. I am slowly working through Pam Evan's backlist and I knew this would be one I loved. I enjoyed it but didn't love it like others I have read. I found Bessie as a character quite frustrating at times. The storyline I adored of course as I love anything set in the wartime and loved the family dynamic and the romance throughout the book. This book like a lot of the authors other books have some sadness throughout the story but I just loved it. I found all the characters very likable and all played a small part into the story. The ending was rounded up perfectly so it finished the book off nicely but I just felt like the first half of the story was missing something which is why I had to put it down to 4 stars. Overall a lovely read if you enjoy stories set in wartime but it just lacked something for me.
