This epic journey will test his ability to protect his children—and they’re all he has left.
Missionary Elise Lane returns with her team to the Rocky Mountain native tribe they serve to discover the entire village—including the children she’s come to love—has been massacred. A fierce brave standing at the edge of the devastation has taken the only surviving child.
Goes Ahead returns home with his son to find his worst fears have come true—his entire village has been slaughtered, including his wife. Only their infant daughter has survived. But there’s no time for grief or vengeance. He must get his children across the mountains to the protection of his family.
The last thing he wants is help from the white people who’ve brought this disaster on his village, but his babe is not yet four moons old. Her hungry cries prove he can’t make this journey without the white woman already nursing a babe of her own. But she refuses to come without the rest of her group, including the opinionated missionary who thinks she knows best for his children. As winter closes in and the mountains prove treacherous beyond anything Goes Ahead can control, only a strength and love greater than his own can save his children—and the woman he’s come to love.

Calm in the Mountain Storm is book nine in the Call of the Rockies series, yet it is definitely a book that is able to be enjoyed as a stand alone novel if you haven’t read any others from the series. Now, if you have read book eight, Grace on the Mountain Trail, you will be excited to see that White Owl and Lola from that novel are side characters in this one.
This was such a wonderful story that emphasized the importance of knowing that everyone has value and is important to God, regardless of their background, upbringing, culture, or skin color. I loved the way Elise adored Goes Ahead’s children in this book. She was also very drawn to Goes Ahead, as he was to her. It was beautiful to watch as they began to have feelings for each other, even as they dealt with worry over how a relationship together seemed a bit scary after coming from such different backgrounds.
Goes Ahead’s faith journey was very touching to read about. The way he approached praying so directly when he was uncertain or scared came across as very realistic to me. He had an openness to learning and growing in his faith. He and Elise were truly made for each other.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I love the adventures this author takes me on! This time we have Elise and her brother Ben traveling with Lola and White Owl from the previous book in the series. It's devastating to think about the bloodshed from the massacre, but the author moves on and focuses on Goes Ahead and his challenge to take his children across the wintery mountains to the village where he was raised. The group's mission to bring the gospel to the tribes allows them the flexibility needed to travel with him and provide assistance with his nursing baby and his wiggly young son. I loved the perspective of Goes Ahead with single parenting and the struggles with his children that his wife usually dealt with. It brought a level of vulnerability to the strong warrior and opened his heart to the message of faith from his new friends. It took him a while to trust, but their actions proved the intent, and even though the journey was rocky in more ways than one, Goes Ahead and Elise deepened their relationship along the way as they relied on each other and brought out the best in each other. I especially loved the reunion with Goes Ahead's estranged family and the healing that took place.

I am a huge Misty Beller fan and this book is so incredibly precious! I love the series, anyway, but this one was extra special. I am a history buff, and Beller knows her history well indeed. I highly recommend this one. There's a lot more I could say about it, but it would be a spoiler. Suffice it to say, this book is great!
This book grabbed my attention from page 1. I am a real fan of this amazing author. She writes the most amazing historical books. I knew that I would need to read this book, too! So glad I did. This is an author who understands the history for the time period she writes. The book is a wonderful addition to this series. There is always adventure, and of course, romance in her books. This one did not fail in these categories. I love the missionaries and the trust in God.
There is sadness in the book and it is very touching. If you like these features in a book, I highly recommend it. Any of this author's books, actually. You won't want to miss a single book!.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author without expectation of a positive review. All thoughts are my own.
This may be my favorite book of Misty’s yet. Goes Ahead’s deep love and protection for his children - coupled with Elise’s humble learning to trust Him. Ahhhhh. Swoon!
I loved Goes Ahead and Elise’s story! The two of them were so admirable and I loved how their characters developed as the story progressed. The kids were adorable and I loved the inclusion of both Walking Bird and Pretty Shield into the story! Once again, another beautiful story by Author Misty M. Beller. She has left me looking forward to still more to come in the Call of the Rockies series in the future! Woohoo!
This is the first historical book I've read that is a romance between a Native American and a white woman. Goes Ahead comes to faith in Christ and Elise, a missionary to the tribes, see the character of the brave by the way he takes care of his family. Beller does a good job describing the process Goes Ahead and Elise go through to determine God's will in their relationship and the consideration they give to the feelings of their families as they consider where their cross-cultural romance will take them. Beller also does well at presenting a positive view of the two cultures and the people who belong to each.
Each of Misty M Beller’s novels in this series, Call of the Rockies, builds a little from the previous by using a character introduced in the book before. In Calm in the Mountain Storm, we find missionary Elise Turner returning to a shocking discovery in the Native American village they had left just days before. Accompanied by her brother, Ben, and White Owl and his Caucasian wife and young baby, more than horror meets their eyes. Across the unspeakable vista they view a lone Native American brave, holding Elise’s now-deceased friend’s baby. At first believing the little missionary group is behind the Sioux attack on the village, Goes Ahead finally is desperate enough to invite Lola, White Owl’s wife, to travel with him and his baby and son as he travels the 1832 Idaho mountain area to reach his native tribe. Knowing his child won’t survive without a wet nurse, Goes Ahead grudgingly agrees to allow the whole group, including Elise, to be included in the trip. But he doesn’t have to trust them, he just has to protect his children at all cost. Elise is particularly taken with Goes Ahead’s two children, baby Pretty Shield and 4-year-old Walking Bird. Elise is single, but she appears to be a natural nurturer. She cares for Goes Ahead’s children as if they are her own, but she stumbles over her developing feelings for their father. I love how Elise gently shows Goes Ahead the error of his childhood thinking…but that could only come by really getting to know the one person who is becoming way too important to her. Goes Ahead wants to rely only on himself to keep the children safe, and having the others help strains his patience. Plus, revenge is heavy on his mind for the atrocities his family has already suffered. Can he really be the person Elise needs him to be? I loved the emotions that Beller portrays in her characters. What an emotional struggle this whole situation would create. I easily put myself in different shoes, even those of Ben and White Owl, as I wondered, how would I deal with these thoughts? Would I be able to be Christ-like in this situation? Would I even care? I could feel the tension as White Owl cautions Goes Ahead, “We must speak peace words. Creator Father calls us to live at peace with every man if we can…” For action lovers, this novel is jam-packed. My heart was sore for all that Beller puts her people through in this book. If you’re a crier, have tissues handy!! If you remember the Oregon Trail game, this book felt much like it. Just as things were going well, you would hear the dreaded music and disaster had struck! What an exciting book this is. So much so, that when the end comes, it seems a little anti-climactic, as if there just wasn’t enough excitement left for that part. I received a copy of this book from the author through Celebrate Lit. I also bought my own ebook. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.
If you haven’t had a chance to read the books in this series I would highly recommend them. Each story has characters from previous books and highlights them in a beautiful setting of the Rocky Mountains. Set against breathtaking scenery we follow characters on their journey during the 1830’s. The hardships facing our characters show the strength and faith they have.
This book gives us more insight into Elise and her adventure that has her facing a devastating loss at an Native American Indian village. What is discovered there is destruction and lives taken by unknown enemies. It became clear that Goes Ahead is not sure of the visitors and isn’t sure if they are responsible for his wife’s death. With Elise, her brother Ben, White Owl and wife Lola and baby standing before Goes Ahead there is tension in the air. Will he trust them and join them as they travel the mountainside?
The beautiful illustration of leading someone to Christ is very well written in this story. Elise with her grace and wisdom shares God with Goes Ahead. His desire to change and live a life that honors Gods so heartwarming. With a newness inside him he feels hope and a new beginning for him and his children. I loved how the author showed how Goes Ahead felt this peace come over him as he accepted Christ. It is a moment that expresses how God forgives us of our sins and welcomed us with open arms.
The story has danger, hardships and two people who find themselves drawn to each other. Elise thinks that her and Goes Ahead are too different to be together. God shows her that he has brought them together for a reason. She needs to give her fear to God and trust Him. Faith helps them realize that they can work things out and be happy together. I look forward to the next book in the series which featured Elise’s brother Ben.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
Calm in the Mountain Storm is written by Misty M. Beller. This is book 9 in the Call of the Rockies series. I have been able to read the whole series, but you can read them as stand alone. The author gives a quick back story in recurring characters. This might be my favorite book in the series yet. I just loved the characters, the stories and the whole thing.
Elise is a missionary with her brother, Ben. They have been moving throughout different Tribes in the Rocky Mountains sharing the love of God. They have been joined with Ben's sister (this was in book 8, her story is good also) Lola, her husband White Owl and their daughter, Anna. They had gone on a short trip and returned back to the village they had been visiting to find it completely decimated. There is one small survivor, a infant named Pretty Shield. They also find Pretty Shield's father who has just returned and found his village murdered. He also has his oldest child, Walking Bird.
He has a hard time trusting Elise and the rest of the missionaries. He is not sure if they are friend or foe at first. However he knows that he needs a way to feed his young daughter. Lola is able to assist with feeding both of the babies. I enjoyed seeing Goes Ahead start to trust the team. Elise spoke the love of God over Goes Ahead and the children. Her caring and compassionate nature slowly melts Goes Ahead's fear.
I just loved this story. I love how historically accurate the author has made this. I have really learned so much during this series. I believe there is one more story in the series and I cannot wait to read it. The characters are well developed. The storyline is intriguing.
Thank you to the author, publisher and Celebrate Lit for allowing me to read a copy of this story. All thoughts are my own.
This book really kept reading. My favorite character, of course is the young children. I had to see if anything happened to them. The young boy had a few mishaps but I am happy the way things turned out for the characters in this story. Of course , the beginning was a little intense and sad. While reading this book, I kept wondering if the things that were written about diapers was factual. I bet you are curious about what was shared so what are you waiting for, just a copy of the book and find out for yourself. I was given a complimentary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own.
I loved this book by Misty M. Beller. I have really enjoyed reading this series and getting to know these characters. I liked how in this story we saw Goes Ahead come to know God through getting to know Elise and her friends. I liked seeing the group of travelers coming together as they hit trials but find strength through trusting God. I liked how kind and caring Elise was and how she took the children in as if they were her own. I liked how that helped to soften Goes Ahead’s heart. I thought this was a sweet story.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
Did the God who created the air and forced it to blow also guide these gusts with the full strength of His hand? Just one of the many questions Goes Ahead has during his time with the missionaries and their friends. I wonder what kind of answers he will receive.
Another wonderful story by this author, that keeps you reading right up till the end. There is plenty of danger, excitement and a love that grows unexpectedly. With fabulous detail this book is not to be missed.
An early copy was received through Misty M Beller Books and BookFunnel. These impressions are my own and were in no way solicited.
This series just keeps getting better, and each title that releases becomes my new favorite! Even as an historical fiction aficionada, I am always impressed by Misty Beller’s ability to create new plotlines set in the Rocky Mountains with the same general cast of characters without any redundancy ever marring the narrative. Add to that the thrill of wilderness adventure and a sweet romance, and the Call of the Rockies series always exceeds my expectations! “Calm in the Mountain Storm,” book nine, appealed to me by the title alone, and I appreciate how the storm reflects both the natural phenomenon as well as that which occurs within us at times.
From the first heartrending chapter, “Calm in the Mountain Storm” dives headfirst into the grittiness and reality of frontier life in the early 1830s, as experienced by a group of missionaries. Elise Lane and her brother, Ben, joined by Lola and her husband, White Owl (a couple whose story is told in “Grace on the Mountain Trail”), travel to various tribal villages to introduce them to the God of the Bible: “In every village where they stopped to share the gospel, the people there would be resistant until a single person finally softened. Then one by one, others would come to meet the Lord for themselves.” Beller does not shy away from the challenges of this lifestyle, presenting it authentically yet without graphic details, even when the opening scene reveals the aftermath of a massacre survived by a single infant, whose warrior father returns with his young son to find the mother of his children dead with the rest of her tribe. Despite his deep distrust and disdain for the missionary party, he has no choice but to travel with them on his way to his own home village. The Lord works in mysterious ways, indeed.
One of the facets of Beller’s novels that I appreciate the most is the dual perspective that provides readers insight into both the Native American and white viewpoints. Realizing and recognizing such differences between people groups is just as important today, too, but can be easy to overlook. In “Calm in the Mountain Storm,” it becomes evident that Christianity is countercultural to the Native American way of life in general, and to that of Goes Away in particular. No matter how strong or capable we are, we will never be enough on our own because we all fall short and need the Savior, Jesus, who also provides strength in our weakness. The most incredible part is how, when the Lord is actively made a part of the equation, the two contrasting perspectives are brought together and reconciled, without either being cast aside. In the midst of prejudice, Elise’s frustration is no less apropos today: “Why couldn’t everyone let a person’s character stand for itself without worrying over their race or how they lived?” Then, as now, our faith must be demonstrated and lived out through our actions and not merely through words, because that is how we will reach people for Christ. Scripture is essential, yes, but only if we apply it to our lives.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through Celebrate Lit and was not required to post a favorable review. All opinions are my own.
Calm in the Mountain Storm is the 9th book in the Call of the Rockies series by Misty M. Beller. I have not read all the books in this series, but I have read a few of them before this one. I do like to read Series books, although this series is great as a Standalone book.
Elise Lane and her brother are missionaries in the Rocky Mountains to a Native Tribe. Being a missionary has challenges and hardships that they work through. Elise Is devasted to learn of that the entire Village she had been working in has been killed, a massacre. Elise is even more devasted when she realizes that there is a Mysterious brave standing holding a baby and she realizes that the baby's mom is one of the deceased. Goes Ahead is the Brave that had been gone for a while to go rescue his son. Goes Ahead is amazed that his 2 children are survivors of recent devasting events in their Tribe, but he also knows he has some choices to be made as he is now a single parent. He isn't very trusting of the missionaries at first, but he comes to trust them and even allows Lola to feed his daughter. Goes Ahead decides he wants to return to his family and the missionaries, including Elise, accompany him on the journey over the Mountain. Will Goes Ahead and his 2 children make it back to Family? Will there be a friendship or more between Elise and Goes Ahead?
WOW, Misty M. Beller has written another GREAT book! I have become a fan of Misty M. Beller in the past few years and I am always excited to read her books. I was captivated by this storyline from the very first chapter. I really have a heart for the work of Missionaries, so Elise and her brother were a couple of my favorite characters. They had some difficult duties when the Village was found Massacred. Goes Ahead was gone for a while to bring his whole family together again, only to get back to discover his wife had been killed. The friendship and relationship between Elise and Goes Ahead were wonderful. I love how the author progresses their relationship slowly. I think this book was my favorite in the series so far! I look forward to reading future books in this wonderful series. FANTASTIC BOOK!
Calm in the Mountain Storm is the ninth book in the Call of the Rockies series by Misty M. Beller. Although part of a series, it could be read as a stand-alone book. Having read and enjoyed several of this author's books, I eagerly anticipated reading this newest book, and I was not disappointed. The writing style is graceful and flows smoothly as the author tells the story of Elise, a missionary to Native Americans. The story immediately grabs the reader's attention as Elise and those traveling with her encounter a massacre site. And amidst the horror, they hear the cry of a baby. The author has beautifully crafted the characters--Elise is compassionate and courageous. Goes Ahead is a brave and capable warrior, and yet exhibits strong paternal instincts for his two young children. The people they are traveling with over the mountain and the relationships depicted add a great dimension to the story. Watching the relationship between Elise and Goes Ahead morph and change throughout the story kept my interest. And, oh, that sweet first kiss!! Strong characters that are so likable, realistic situations, and wonderfully descriptive scenes all work together for a delightful story. Threaded throughout the book is a faith in God who alone can bring comfort and strength in difficult times. It was refreshing to see Goes Ahead's journey to understand and realize a personal faith in the God of the white man. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading more of Ms. Beller's books. Readers who enjoy historical fiction with lots of adventure and romance will not want to miss Calm in the Mountian Storm. I received a complimentary copy of this book via CelebrateLit. I was not required to write a favorable review, and the opinions are my own. This review is part of a CelebrateLit blog tour.
My review today is on the Historical Romance, Calm in the Mountain Storm. This is book nine in the series Call of the Rockies. I'm a huge fan of Misty's and I'm always excited to get one of her books. This is a great story. It's well-written, full of action, and heart-warming. I know you are going to love it.
Elise Turner and her brother, Ben are missionaries to the Indian tribes. They return to a village they had left a few weeks ago. While Owl, his wife Lola, and their tiny baby accompanied them. The village was quiet and felt strange. They soon discovered the village had been massacred. Only a tiny infant was alive. She was under her mother's body. Elise took the baby in her arms. An Indian warrior then showed up. Was he one of the ones who killed all these people?
Goes Ahead had left his wife's village to find his son who was abducted. When he returns the village is destroyed and only his baby daughter, Bright Eyes is left alive. There are strangers in the village and they help him bury the dead. They offer to go with him as he takes his children to his village several miles away. As he has no way to feed the baby or carry them both on his horse he agrees
An exciting story as they cross the mountains to reach his estranged family. God has a plan for these wounded souls. A plan for hope and a future. God has a plan for you too, a good plan for peace and not for destruction even in this time of political turmoil and unrest. Give Him your heart and watch Him move in your life.
Elise wants to take God's message and love to the Native Americans. So along with her brother, Ben, and Lola and White Owl and with their infant daughter, they have been traveling from village to village giving the peoples God's message. But when they head back to Bright Eye's village, horror awaits them.
Goes Ahead has come back from rescuing his son to find his wife's village decimated and everyone killed. He did not plan on running into the group of missionaries that he did. But he needs help as his infant daughter needs to eat and the only one that can help him with that is White Owl's wife Lola. So begrudgingly and in sorrow he leads this group of five adults and three small children back to his family's home.
Along the way and through Elise's persistence, he lets his guard down, especially around her. Dangers await all of them and he is unsure of the welcome or if he even wants to go back to his family's village. But as his heart begins to open to Elise and to her God, he begins to realize how important family really is. Even those he has blamed for so long.
This was a story of Elise and Goes Ahead's love story and how even though they were from different worlds, could they be right for one another? Another story of adventure and romance in the dangers of Rockies.
I was provided a copy of this novel from the author. I was not required to post a positive review and all views and opinions are my own.
Continue the adventure with White Owl and Lola, Elise and Ben. As they approach the Salish village where they had been staying and ministering, something did not seem right! Much to their grief, they discovered that while they were away, the entore village had been masacred. A baby cries and Goes Ahead enters the scene. Goes Ahead was Bright Eyes husband . He had been away rescuing their young son who had been kidnapped by an enemy tribe. When he returned to find Bright Eyes dead, he also discovered, hidden under her body, their infant daughter, Pretty Shield.
Goes Ahead does not know if this group of people are friend or foe. Elise, Ben, Lois, and White Owl do not know if Goes Ahead do not know if they can trust Goes Ahead. Lois has her own infant daughter to nurse and take care of. Pretty Shield has no mother to nurse and care for her. The group agrrees that the children must come first and they agree to help each other. They will travel with Goes Ahead back to his parents village so that Lois can nurse Bright Eyes. Even though there is distrust and no one knows what lies ahead, will they learn to trust each other? Become friends? Is there a possible romance waiting to take place as they travel along? What does God have in store for our friends from the previous books in the series? Will Goes Ahead learn to trust the group he travels with? Will he accept not only their friendhip but the love that their God has for him? Adventure and faith travel with this group. Let's journey with them in this wonderful, spell-binding adventure by Misty M. Beller
What a great story of healing and finding love when all seems lost. This series is a continuing journey of friends and strangers that become friends in their journey through the Rockies. Times are challenging but together and with God's love they survive and grow. This is Elise and Goes Ahead's story and it starts with tragedy but ends with love and healing. Elise is one of the missionaries we met in the last book Grace on the Mountain Trail and she and her brother along with Lola and White Owl are traveling from village to village spreading God's word to the Indian tribes. When they first meet Goes Ahead it is not a pleasant meeting and only time and love will heal the wounds they first find. These two strangers will learn that even though they come from different worlds they are meant to be together. Great story and a page-turner. I loved the characters and can't wait for the next book to see what happens for our friends. Each book in this series is about two main characters so their books can be read as standalone but they all intertwine and their stories continue as we go so I recommend starting at the beginning to get the full enjoyment from our group. This series is so well written and exciting and takes you back in time to get a glimpse of what life was like for our ancestors as they tamed the lands and survived the hardships.
Guys. If you’ve never read anything by Misty M. Beller you are missing out. If you’ve not read the other books in this series you need to go do that, now. I’ll wait. Her series need to be read as a series. They are that good.
Okay, if I’m honest, you can actually read this on its own. You wouldn’t have to read it with the series. It can stand alone. But why? Why would you just want to read one book? I guarantee that if you read this book you’re going to go back and binge the rest of the series.
Calm in the Mountain Storm is an amazing read! You’re going to love it. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry but most importantly you’ll be changed.
Goes Ahead managed to find his son but comes home to everything else gone. Everything that is except his infant daughter. Now he’s alone without his tribe and with two small children. He can’t do this on his own. Enter Elise and the help she can be. It’s a beautiful story and I don’t want to spoil it for you. Just go read it.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.
As a former missionary to Native Americans I always look forward to titles that deal with this topic. Calm in the Mountain Storm by Misty Beller continues the Call of the Rockies series. The story focuses on Elise and her brother Ben, missionaries to the Native Americans in Idaho in the 1830’s. They are traveling with fellow missionaries White Owl and Lola. Upon returning to a village where they had been witnessing, they find everyone dead. Or almost everyone. The baby of one of the women who had accepted them is the only one alive. Her father had been away from the village rescuing his son. The two of them returned to find the same carnage as the missionaries. Beller has written a beautiful story of redemption and acceptance. The story, much like life, has its share of disappointments, dangerous situations, and storms as well as joyful life events. While it would be beneficial to read the books in the order of the series, I think readers can read Calm in the Mountain Storm without having read the previous titles. Although written for the adult audience, Calm in the Mountain Storm and the rest of the books in the series could be placed in a K-12 Christian school library. I received a complimentary copy of Calm in the Mountain Storm. This is my honest review.
Continuing the saga of the Call of the Mountains, Calm in the Mountain Storm chronicles the lives of Elise Lane and Goes Ahead. She, her brother, and her friends White Owl and Lola along with their baby daughter Anna. Goes Ahead and needs the help of the group to care for his two young children.
As missionaries, Elise and her brother Benjamin strive to share the gospel with all they encounter. So when they find Goes Ahead with his baby daughter, and in need of help with her and her older brother, the entire group agrees to come together.
This work of historical fiction illustrates the importance of being the hands and feet of Christ to those we encounter. Even though Goes Ahead’s wife and the mother of his children was murdered, he finds himself trusting the group even in times of trouble.
I loved seeing the way Elise and Goes Ahead come together for the children and eventually recognize their feelings for one another. So if you enjoy works of historical Christian fiction, check out this book for yourself.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
One might assume that the books in the Call of the Rockies might get redundant once you get to book nine in the series. That would not be the case for this series. I have enjoyed reading each one and going for a different journey. Beller is very creative in the selection of adventures she has taken the characters and readers on.
Elise feels led to tell others about Christ to the native tribe and is devasted to find an entire village destroyed by an enemy. When she meets a warrior with two young children, she prays for ways to reach him for Christ. As they journey to his native village, there are many obstacles that try to stop their journey.
I enjoyed getting to know the characters in this book. I appreciated the depth of the inner struggle of the characters to make it feel true to life. The struggles and experiences, especially the ones involving the children, were very realistic.
I would definitely recommend this book. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own and I was not required to leave a positive review.
A new element is found in this author’s newest historical mountain adventure novel: a missionary team reaching out to native Americans. Elise Lane and her brother, Ben, have been serving in the wilderness, but they come across death and devastation when they return to a native village. Along with a small group that includes a baby and a young boy, they begin a treacherous journey through the Rocky Mountains in winter. The story seems quite realistic in the compelling characters and their reactions, white vs. native interaction, historic setting, and the trials they encounter. It is easy to picture the scenes and to relate to the people in the tale. You feel like you’re actually there witnessing the action and the danger. The author always does a good job creating these historical adventures that are filled with excitement and intrigue. Each one stands on its own but may have some recurring characters. I received a copy from Celebrate Lit. All opinions are my own.
Calm in the Mountain Storm is the ninth installment from Misty M Beller’s Call of the Rockies series. I have loved this series to date and was excited to have the opportunity to read the latest addition. It is exactly what I would expect from this author. The story was full of adventure, action, romance and danger. I enjoyed taking this journey with Elise and Goes Ahead. A beautiful book of faith and inspiration.
Fans of clean historical romance with want to pick up Calm in the Mountain Storm. I believe they will definitely love it as much as me. I am giving it five plus stars. I will be eagerly waiting for the next book written by Misty M. Beller.
I received a paperback copy of Calm in the Mountain Storm from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.
Calm In The Mountain Storm is the 9th book in the Call Of The Rockies series by Misty M. Beller. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this series. The story of missionary, Elise Lane and Goes Ahead, along with his son, Walking Bird and infant daughter Pretty Shield is both heart wrenching and endearing. They must overcome many trials betqeen them and along the trail to the village of Goes Ahead's family.
Be sure you have a box of tissues for this one! In spite of the tears this book is well worth the read.
I wish you could give half stars! I gave this book four stars instead of five but would have given 4 1/2 if I could. Had I read this at a different time I probably would have given it five stars but I'm sure reading it just after a loss of a dear family member influenced my rating.
Calm in the Mountain Storm is another great historical book set in the Rocky Mountains! You will love how missionary Elise and her group help an Indian warrior, Goes Ahead, care for his young children after he finds his village massacred and his wife dead. Goes Ahead's daughter is only three moons old and crying from hunger so a white woman, Lola, nurses her as well as her own child. Goes Ahead doesn't trust the white people and the group doesn't really trust him either. I liked how Elise kept witnessing and showing God's love to Goes Ahead and his children as they helped him reach his parents' village. I recommend Calm in the Mountain Storm to anyone who enjoys historical mountain fiction. I received a complimentary e-book from the author. This is my honest opinion.
I enjoyed this latest instalment of the Call of the Rockies series. There is some overlap of characters so I would recommend reading the books of the series in order, but this book could be read as a standalone book also. I liked how realistic Goes Ahead's feelings and emotions are. There was an excellent biblical faith thread and clear gospel message. After so many books with characters traveling from one place to another, it must be hard to come up with new difficulties for them to face, but this book did not feel repetitive and had unique challenges. I look forward to reading more books by Misty M. Beller.
I got a free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own and given voluntarily. No compensation was received for my review.
There are books that you read and say "yeah, that was ok". This book was way more than ok. I can not resist a Misty M. Beller book. I have never been disappointed in her stories.
Elise and her brother were on a mission to share GOD'S love to others. Her loving heart was there for everyone to see and feel. Goes Ahead could not help noticing how much she gave of herself to his children.
It's a beautiful story of Elise and Goes Ahead developing relationship. They come from such different backgrounds. Is there any chance of a future for them?
My favorite character is Walking Bird. He's Goes Ahead's young son. He is so curious. He gets himself into all sorts of predicaments.
I received this book from Celebrate Lit to review.
