Five Weddings and Wickham

Rate this book
A man who had felt less might have talked more. Imagine a Darcy who discovers his silence could cost him the love of a woman worthy of being pleased.

There is a stubbornness that can never bear to be frightened. Imagine an Elizabeth who insults Darcy’s appearance at an assembly and thinks his proposal is a joke.

Yes, his misfortunes have been great indeed. Imagine a Wickham whose various schemes for money are upended (repeatedly) by the Bennet daughters.

In a relationship fraught with misunderstandings, Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy find their way to love through four novellas.

A Conspiracy Against Love and an Almost-Compromise
At Netherfield, when Jane Bennet and Charles Bingley discover that the Bingley sisters and Darcy have discussed interfering with their romance, they are confident they have thwarted the plot. Unfortunately, they are unaware of threats posed by Wickham’s greed, his patroness’s desperation, and an almost-compromise with our dear couple.

The Runaway Bride and the Almost-Stolen Sweetheart
Darcy’s efforts to restore his friendship with Elizabeth at Rosings are complicated by the disappearance of Anne De Bourgh. When Anne reappears in London, Darcy and Elizabeth arrive in town to celebrate that happy ending, only to be confronted with the abduction of their sisters, as schemed by Wickham.

The Almost-Elopement and the Viscount
With the happy return of their sisters and the repair of their relationship, Elizabeth and Darcy find themselves in charity at Pemberly … until Darcy makes a disastrous proposal. Before our dear couple can resolve their misunderstandings, Elizabeth is called away to Lincoln to help Mary prevent Lydia from running away with Wickham. When Mary’s particular friend, the Viscount of Lincolnshire, writes to Darcy on Elizabeth’s behalf, Elizabeth wonders if her rejected suitor will answer her call for help.

Darcy’s Criminal Conversation and the Almost-Extortion
At last, Darcy and Elizabeth have acknowledged their love and received Mr Bennet’s permission to marry. Unfortunately, that permission is snatched away when the husband of a lady Darcy had once courted arrives in Hertfordshire to accuse him of a liaison with his wife—a liaison that the lady herself confirms. As for Wickham, his past indiscretions finally catch up with him.

Bonus novella, “Mary Bennet and the Murderous Stepmother”
A young viscount has won the heart of Mary Bennet, but they have to survive the machinations of the dowager viscountess to have a happy ending.

L-O-N-G and S-L-O-W

Too many stories with little to tie them together. The fact that the stories are all good makes this Four Stars but the length keeps it from Five Stars.

A Pride and Prejudice which unfolds as -
1. A Conspiracy Against Love and an Almost Compromise - Will an overhead conversation lead to changes
2. The Runaway Bride and the Almost Stolen Sweetheart - The story continues as Kitty visits the Gardiners and Elizabeth travels to Hunsford.
3. The Almost Elopement and the Viscount - Mary, Lydia and Mrs Benner are visiting her cousin Harriet Gordon, where Mary meets Viscount Anthony Littleton.
4. Darcy’s Criminal Conversation and the Almost Extortion - Ambrose Fitzwilliam, Viscount of Rutland causes mayhem.
5. Mary Bennet and the Murderous Stepmother - An expansion on story 3 which could easily replace part 3.
An enjoyable story.

Very long. The beginning was so promising, but by the midpoint, the story had petered out, and the pacing slowed so much that I began skimming, hoping to find something interesting had happened.

By the time the story started focusing on Darcy and Elizabeth, I had lost interest. I did finish it, but it was a near thing. The final section (Mary and the Murderous Stepmother) was mostly a rehash of the third story with some added scenes, and it was totally superfluous.

Read through KU. 2.5-stars rounded up.

Quite enjoyable group of stories

These stories aren't as short as I expected and fortunately they all connect to each other rather being a collection of different ones. The stories follow the visit the different Bennet women make and mostly the results of Mrs Bennet visiting a friend for a month. There her " plain spinster " in the making meets the family of a Viscount and we experience a multitude of exciting events from saving a dog, to the intentional poisoning of family members. Even the Viscount recognized that the Bennet family is definitely not dull! Of course the usual villains are roaming through the pages - Wickham, Caroline Bingley, the Matlock heir, and then a Dowager Vicountess is thrown into the mix! All create great havoc, dangerous situation at times, and even a few murders. It's definitely NOT a boring time regardless of what Lydia Bennet tries to tell you!

Absolutely Fantastic!!

5 Stars for story telling at it's finest! All of these lives separate yet interlinked in the most perfectly believable of ways. I especially loved the story arcs of Kitty Bennet, Mary Bennet, and Anne de Bourgh. I always feel that they deserve to be allowed to shine.

Enjoyable read.

I enjoy long books, and this one carried our favorite characters into new new adventures. The typos, missing words, and unfortunate repeat paragraphs
could be corrected with a New version. Did enjoy it!
