She’s everything he wasn’t looking for—and exactly what he never knew he needed…

After a mission gone wrong cost him one of his brothers-in-arms, Navy SEAL Rob Bishop needed space. Living the reclusive life of a mountain man gave him more than enough of that. But just as he starts settling into a comfortable routine, he runs across a damsel in distress who turns his world—and his heart—upside down.

Taliyah Trent is not having a good day. Instead of getting married, she’s fleeing to the California wilderness from a fiancé who might’ve put her father in prison…and might be trying to kill her. Luckily, her sexy-as-sin neighbor steps in to help. She can only hope his good deed doesn’t get him killed.

Now, Taliyah and Bishop must search for a way to clear her name—and her father’s—while their enemies circle like vultures. And if they’re not careful, they could lose a lot more than their potential happily ever after on this mission…

“Bishop” is a novella by Em Petrova that also introduces us to ‘SEAL Team Blackout’. If this first story is any indication, it’s going to be a fantastic series.

After a mission gone wrong cost him one of his teammates ( who are as close as family could ever be), dedicated Navy SEAL Rob Bishop needed time and space away from everything connected to military life. He started to find some solace and peace being a ‘mountain man’ living in a cabin so remotely located it was basically off the grid of the world. When he unexpectedly stumbles across a woman stranded on the side of the road, his world gets shaken up again, although in an entirely new way.

Taliyah Trent was supposed to be getting married. Instead, she’s literally on the run, still in her wedding gown. She’s trying to escape to a remote cabin in the California wilderness and owned by a family member, because she unexpectedly discovered that her fiancé is not at all who she thought he was. In fact, he might be her biggest nightmare. She didn’t love the man, but she never imagined what his real motives were. When the gruff, sexy wild man in the only cabin nearby is there to save her, she’s both shocked and grateful. Taliyah and Bishop have to figure out a way to get to the bottom of the dangerous mess that destroyed her father’s life is trying to destroy hers. It’s made even more complicated because somebody is trying to kill her.

This is a well-written, fast paced story. It pulled me in so quickly and effectively that I couldn’t put it down - I kept having to see what would happen next. Within the great story the author layers in strong chemistry between the lead characters, scorching hot passion, some surprising emotional depth, a good mystery, suspenseful and humorous moments, and more. I thought the resolution was solid and I’m looking forward to this series!

BISHOP is book one of the Seal Team Blackout series. Bishop ex Navy Seal just retired feels responsible for not being able to protect and save his best friends back while on a mission couldn’t forgive himself and feels that he cannot and will not risk him being a danger to any other of his brother seals. Now has retreated and lives alone on a mountain in a cabin away from society so to speak minding his own business until Taliyah “The Runaway Bride” just fled her wedding minutes from walking down the isle to marry a man that she just discovered she believes might be involved with the reason her father is in prison for something that he didn’t do. Bishop and Taliyah end up meeting over a flat tire in the pouring down rain which Bishop changes for her, and Taliyah tells him she is headed to the cabin that is just a hop, skip and a just away from his. Anyway they end up at Bishops cabin and three thugs show up and Bishop has to kill them and they are on the run, Bishop thinks they are there to kill him Taliyah thinks they are there to kill her, now we are on the journey of protecting Taliyah all the twists and turns, ups and downs, danger, killing, mystery, emotions, off the charts chemistry. This is an excellent story the writing is superb as always with Ms Petrova’s books. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series. I highly recommend this series. Bishop feels guilty for not being fast enough to save his fellow brother in arms which causes him to leave his Seal Team. He heads to his mountain cabin so he can come to terms with what happened and he's finally making some progress finding some peace when he comes across Taliyah. Taliyah is in a wedding gown and she's struggling to change a flat tire looks like she needs his help. Taliyah had been at the church all set to get married when she gets a call from the hospital that her father was stabbed in jail. When she calls her fiance to tell him he tells her not to worry that her father will survive the stabbing but Taliyah didn't tell him that her father was stabbed. She immediately flees the church going to the family cabin no one knows about but on her way she gets a flat tire and meets Bishop. Bishop feels an immediate need to keep her safe and an urge to protect Taliyah that when danger appears he's going to do whatever he can to keep her safe and protected. I don't want to say anymore and ruin it for anyone else with spoilers. You really need to read this exciting action packed story to see what happens. I would definitely recommend reading this book.

Rod Bishop was not fast enough to save his brother in arms causing him to leave his SEAL team. He decided to go to his mountain cabin and hid out for months. Taliyah Trent was at the church ready to get married, when the hospital called telling her that her father had been stabbed at the prison leaving her a message. When she called her fiance to tell him, he told her to forget about her dad. He would live through the stabbing, but Taliyah had not told him her father had been stabbed. She immediately ran from the church escaping town to the family mountain cabin that no one knew anything about. A couple of miles from the cabin, she had a flat which was where Bishop found her trying to figure out how to change it. Bishop felt protective of Taliyah from the moment he met her so when her fiance's men caught up with her, he went on the run with her to keep her safe and clear both her father's name, and her own. An action packed story filled with the pain of loss and learning to pick up the pieces going forward.

A cryptic message and update on her dad minutes before her wedding, makes accountant Taliyah Trent realize she can’t marry Richard. He was too indifferently cold about her dad’s injuries which she hadn’t mentioned and the message from her dad is a clear sign to her that she should run for all she’s worth.

Wracked with guilt over his best friend death, ex-SEAL Rob Bishop withdraws into nature instead of re-enlisting or joining a civilian team. With supplies on his back, Bishop emerges from the woods and sees a drenched woman in a wedding dress, dripping makeup, befuddled by her car’s flat tire during a rainstorm on the mountainside with only his cabin and one other.

Taliyah refuses to talk to Richard but talking to Bishop in his cabin the next morning, three men break in to either kidnap or kill them. Talking to Bishop in his cabin the next morning, three men break in to either kidnap or kill them. Taliyah and Bishop each think the men were after them. After learning Taliya is news, her photo is everywhere, Bishop vows to help clear Taliya of Richard’s accusation that she is an embezzler like her father. .

Well written, but a bit boring.

It’s really well written but I just didn’t find it engaging. I wasn’t rooting for them, and I wasn’t sad when I finished it. It’s weird as I can’t really criticise anything, the sex scenes were okay, not amazing, I loved how Rob was with Taliyah, but I just didn’t connect with them.

When Taliyah discovers that her fiancé set her dad up, and sent him to prison, she runs away, from her wedding. As she’s heading towards her dads cabin in the woods, she gets a puncture and Rob rescues her. He rescues her a few times after that as Richard her ex wants to silence her. Rob is a retired navy seal, who lost his best friend. Trapped in grief and loneliness, he lives in his cabin in solitude. Until he meets her. As they run away from men that seem to find them remarkably easily, they fall in love.

There are a few questions about this book that didn’t really make sense. How did Rob manage to leave the navy when he wanted to? Was he not under contract? How did Richard’s hired men keep finding them? How did they sneak past a navy seal?

I’m not sure that I’ll read the next book. Sadly.

I can understand why many people gave this book a better rating. It was a good book. My personal taste for a book like this is first person writing and so this third person POV story telling was not my favorite. Also the POV sometimes switched back and forth between paragraphs and would get somewhat confusing for me at times. There were also a few dated terms or weirdly phrased sentences where things like 'bedding her', 'round globes' or 'piece of tail' were used and that was bleh.
However, this was a really great story and, other than my personal feelings about it, the writing is good. I thought the characters were developed well and that it was a good intro into this series.
One last thing...The story was so interesting that the characters inability to focus on the task at hand but rather ogling each other was kind of off putting as well. There would be a serious plot advancement and after three sentences both of the main characters would get distracted by their attraction and go off on a tangent in their brain about wanting to get in the other one's pants. Don't mind this happening some but it was the whole book. Personal opinion. Still enjoyed myself!

Rod Bishop looses his friend in combat and feels guilty for not being able to save him. He leaves his SEAL team and retreats to a mountain cabin to regroup and find himself. There he finds a woman - Taliyah - in a wedding gown after she has a flat tire. She needs his help. Taliyah leaves her wedding on the run when she realizes her husband to be was involved with her father being sent to prison for a crime he did not commit. The husband to be sends men to kill her so that she does not find evidence to indicate him as being the one who committed the crime. Rod and Taliyah have instant attraction to each other as they try to blend together. This book is sexy as all get out. There is emotional power and lots of passion. There is hot, steamy goodness and a sizzling romance with lots of sex. It is captivating, emotional and so sexy! Well worth the read - hard to put down. Looking forward to the next book in the series. This book was erotic, physical and fun - a perfect book. I received an ARC of this book from Booksprout and voluntarily chose to review.

Loved it!

I love this author’s sizzling stories and Rob and Taliyah have become one of my favourite couples. With danger following them everywhere, this military-adjacent romance played out with excitement, action, and of course, love…

Taliyah ran from a hot pan to blazing fire when her wedding day exploded. Luckily, Rob was there to help her. What started as an accidental encounter quickly turned into a run for their lives. Not that Rob was afraid – far from it. He was an alpha in all the good ways and stepped up again and again as danger stalked them. Taliyah was not a pushover but she wasn’t prepared for the deadly stakes, and Rob, well, he was built for them…

The balance of intriguing plot, likable characters and passion was perfect. I like the sizzle yet sometimes it can take over a story and this one did not. Instead, the chemistry between Rob and Taliyah complemented the story and made for an even better read. Can’t wait for more in the series!

*I happily reviewed this story

Shattered Ties is a phenomenal romantic suspense by Em Petrova. Ms. Petrova has delivered a well-written book populated with an outstanding cast of characters. This is a fairly quick read, perfect for those with limited reading time. Taliya sneaks away from her wedding when she suspects her fiance of having something to do with her father landing in jail and then the hospital. Now she's on the run. Rob left his SEAL team after his best friend was killed. Overcome with guilt he holes up on a mountain. Rob and Taliya's story is loaded with drama, humor, sizzle, action and suspense. I enjoyed this book from start to finish and look forward to my next book by Em Petrova. This book is book 1 of the SEAL Team Blackout Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliffhanger.

I voluntarily read a complimentary copy of this book that I received from Bookfunnel. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Bishop and Taliyah

This was a great start to the SEAL Team Blackout series. Bishop was the ultimate SEAL/mountain man and he was the perfect character to use to introduce SEAL Team Blackout. This book had suspense, humor, romance, a fierce heroine and an alpha hero.

Bishop leaves his SEAL Team after his best friend is killed and retires to a remote cabin off the grid. His peace is shattered when runaway bride, Taliyah flees to her family cabin after learning her fiancé set up her dad for embezzlement. Bishop and Taliyah work together to clear her and her father’s name with her ex-fiancé hot on their tails. As his protective instincts kick in, Bishop is forced to re-evaluate his reasons for leaving the teams and not accepting a position with SEAL Team Blackout.

This was a fast paced adventure that had me on the edge of my seat and rooting for Bishop and Taliyah as a couple.

It is rare that I don’t finish a book but I got to the point with this one where I just couldn’t go on. New author to me. Excerpt in insta ad sounded interesting but I never made it to that part I guess. No real chemistry between the mcs. Dialogue between them was both boring and over dramatic. Didn’t make sense most of the time. Seemed like the author made up the story with no real planning and then had to shoehorn details in to prolong it? The secret cabin was the only hidden asset. Ooops! Wait there was also a secret sailboat! Let’s go there!

I don’t know, nothing about this book worked for me but the straw was when they are working up to sex and he hesitates for the 100th time and she says “Please Bishop…I’ve never been…with a..a real man. Not like you”. After that my eyes rolled so far back in my head that I literally couldn’t finish so there. The cringe was strong in this one.

Rob Bishop was a Navy SEAL until his best friend was killed and he watched. Bishop left the team and went to stay at a cabin in the mountains. Taliyah Trent was minutes from getting married when she received a call her father had been shanked in prison. He was in prison for embezzling money from old people. When she calls her fiancé, he mentions her father’s stabbing but she never told him. Taliyah receives a message about not forgetting the cabin. She runs and goes to the cabin but gets a flat, in the pouring rain, and is saved by a mountain man. While trying to clear her and her father’s name, they are ambushed by three men. Bishop saves them and they go on the run. Bishop thinks they were attacked because of him but Taliyah’s ex has accused her of stealing millions of dollars. Now they are working together to find the evidence to clear their names.
Action packed. Steamy. Instant attraction. Suspenseful.

Bishop is the first book in Em Petrova’s new Seal Team Blackout Series. This is a happily ever after alpha military romance that is action packed, suspenseful, and erotic.

Navy SEAL Rob Bishop is settling into his new life as a reclusive mountain man when he comes across Taliyah Trent in a wedding dress on the side of the road. The attraction between them is instantaneous and when they are attacked Bishop’s protective instincts are thrown into overdrive. Together they search for proof to clear both her and her father’s name but will they find it before they find her? Read it and find out!

Wow! What a fantastic start to a great new series! Petrova does a fantastic job creating intense, action-packed love stories with amazing characters. I can’t for the next book in this series!

Rob Bishop is a SEAL who after a mission gone bad, leaves the teams to become a mountain man. He only wants solitude and to be left alone.
Taliyah Trent left her groom to be at the alter, after having second thoughts. She flees the church going to the cabin that her father owns. On the way there, she hits a pothole that flattens her tire. Since it's raining she gets out of the car to find the flat tire. Getting soaked in her wedding dress was not on her agenda nor was the flat. Bishop happens on her looking at her car and tells her he can change her tire. She agrees since she has absolutely no clue how to do it herself.
Lots of action, suspense, and fate intervenes.

First time author for me and it was an okay read. Nothing I hated but nothing that stood out and caught my attention either. It is a novella so I knew not to expect much in terms of story arc or character development (not that I haven't read novellas with both). Even if I were to excuse that and the insta-love/insta-lust, there were quite a few plot holes to really enjoy this book. For example, a navy SEAL unit on bodyguard duty for one of their former teammate. Did the author forget that SEALs aren't private contractors and are bound by military rules and regulations?? They cannot just go about helping out their teammates and killing people left right and center. Might come back someday to check out a full length novel. Hoping that they would fare better than this

Lil’ thrill, lil’ steam

Bishop is hiding from the world in the wilderness after witnessing a fellow SEAL die in combat.

Taliyah learns her fiancé might have had something to do with her father’s incarceration and subsequent stabbing and jilts him at the alter heading to her father’s cabin in the same wilderness.

They meet when Taliyah’s car breaks down in a downpour. After thugs try to kill Bishop and Taliyah, they set off to exonerate Taliyah and her father. They fall in love with immediate steam and adventure that mildly introduces the members of Bishop’s SEAL team.

The plot is quick. You don’t really have time to build an emotional attachment to the characters. The love story is a quick burn. It is mildly steamy with several scenes.

While this may be a shorter story in length, it is jam packed with suspense, action, sexual tension, and humor. Right off the bat we have a runaway bride who questions whether she can trust her fiance, then she gets a flat tire on a deserted dirt road in the rain and has to decide whether to trust a mountain man. And the action just continues from there as Taliyah tries to decipher a cryptic message she received from her father. For Bishop, aka "mountain man", he's just trying to avoid human contact at his secluded cabin when he some men burst in. But are they there for him or Taliyah? This is such an intense start to a new series and I can't wait for the next book.

Seal Team Black and Em Petrova brings us the story of Bishop. Is it fate that brings together Taliyah, a run away bride and Bishop a recluse hiding from the world because of a disastrous last seal team mission? They meet when Bishop stops to help Tali with a flat tire. They meet again when she seeks Bishop out at his cabin hoping to find he has WiFi. Their adventure begins when they are faced with danger and go on the run together. This fast paced adventure gives the reader plants of action - both in danger and in the bedroom. This promises to be another great series from Em Petrova!

When a mission goes sideways, Rob walks away from his SEAL team and the world. Walking back to his mountain cabin he comes across Taliyah - a runaway bride with a flat tire. For the first time since the tragic mission, Rob feels something. When 3 men storm his cabin, Rob thinks his past put them both of them in danger. He soon learns there’s a price on her head. Fortunately he’s got the skills and connections to keep her safe until they can retrieve the information that will clear her name. Both realize their attraction is much more than just sexual chemistry though they have plenty of that too. Quick, sexy, action filled read.

I always have a soft spot for Suspense romance and this is no different. I like that the plot picked up quickly. There was no waiting around for the point of the book. I like that they were thrown together from the first second practically.

And their romance was cute. It happened organically and believably.

The smut was … eh, fine. And sometimes the dialogue got a little preachy. Also, it would have been nice to see some scenes stretched out towards the end. She went from being America’s most wanted to innocent in the span of about three pages, and Richard when from golden boy to criminal in about the same time.

But overall I enjoyed it.

This action packed book took off and kept me on the edge of my seat until the last page. Bishop and Taliyah deal with danger, betrayal and lies. Bishop is living in his cabin without human contact until Taliyah shows up. He gave up being a SEAL after his best friend died in front of him. Taliyah is running from her ex fiancé after finding out he had someone stab her dad in prison. Other things come to light after shew stands him up at the alter. A fantastic start to this new series and I can't wait for the next book.

A union built on deception, fraud and a runaway bride, start off our getting to know Taliyah and Bishop. Meeting during a storm while changing a tyre, we are brought into their sphere of danger, running and protection while true culprits are found, brought to justice and the innocent set free.
Although I was introduced to the writing of Em Petrova through her cowboy series, I have fallen under the spell of her Security and Protection services.

Em Petrova will take you on a wild ride with plenty of steam and drama mixed with action. A SEAL, who lost a member of his team, is living off the grid to make peace with what happened on the last mission. Taliyah is on the run from her fiance. He is not the man she thought he was. Rob offers to help her and they are forced to come up with a plan. Her fiance is trying to find her and someone is trying to kill her. Is it her fiance or someone else trying to kill her?

Bishop has abandoned his life as a SEAL after losing his brother. He feels it was his fault.
Taliyah is about to get married when something horrible dawn on her. She runs away trying to follow her dad’s message to discover what is going on and why her father is in jail.
I liked the story, the characters and the brotherhood of the SEALs. The only thing I missed was an encounter between Taliyah and her father.

Can a flat tyre bring everything you ever needed?

Taliyah may think a flat tyre is going to lead to her death, Bishop thinks her flat tyre is the end of his peaceful solitude, but all it does is give them exactly what they need....each other.
She needs him to save her life and he needs her to start living once again.
A fast paced, action filled start to this new series I love both Taliyah and Bishop, but I also look forward to meeting more of the shadowy Team Blackout.
