She stares at me and my wolf shifter triad like we are monsters.
We stare at her with pure hunger.
I grew up alone on a hostile planet. I hunted with wolves. Every moment of my existence was wracked with agony, and there is only one thing that dulls it.
Her. My Fated Mate. My Goddess.
I would level planets for her. I would bathe the universe in blood to be by her side.
Even if she stares at me like I am a brutal beast…
I jumped right in - and I thought it was interesting and enough to understand without having the other books.
I'd say this is maybe a 3.5 for me. However I'd say on the lower end because it ends on a cliffhanger. And from what I've looked up, it's possibly a cliffhanger that gets solved as the series goes on...but the next book will probably be on another couple that's focused? If that's the case then it's a 3 for me. HOWEVER CW for me - that I personally would've liked to know, is that there is the slitting of wrists. That's apparently how Obsidian gets his two shadow guys in and out of him, and it's just the way he does it but... er...I didn't feel comfortable reading that.
I'd see this as a sort of Tarzan Alien romance book, with insta lust. And it is really the eroticism/pull to each other that gets the leads together. The upside is that there's no stupid misunderstanding drama (despite not being able to speak to each other) - downside is that there isn't much development of understanding their love for each other, besides just a general mate pull.
The other two shadows that are part of the RH are interesting I suppose, and I do find the RH that have the other men as "extras" but part of it - hot. However it really didn't seem much purpose of them besides giving the FL some hot sex? If the book as a whole was like an erotic romance - I'd be okay with it and let it fly... but this book clearly has a huge overlying plot, that it didn't work for me. There's a lot of erotic descriptions, but in terms to actual steam - in my opinion it's medium and a bit quick on each scene.
Anyways I did think that the idea of the two (if I was reading it as a quickie) was alright and cute I suppose. However BECAUSE it leaves on a cliffhanger and it suddenly turned 360 with the ML in the last chapter, I had some whiplash going on. Maybe I would appreciate it more if I read the other books since he's supposed to be a War-God --- but if the next book isn't a continuation of focusing on these two leads, it's a bit upsetting with how it ended then.
"I know my life’s purpose. To quell the anger of this beast. To give him solace from his agony."
Fay thought she understood the job she'd signed on for -- then they arrived at the planet and she got a dose of reality. Turns out the person hiring you and the person bossing you around on-site aren't always on the same page... or maybe one's just more honest than the other.
Obsidian is no Tarzan... he is an Alien living alone on an abandoned world with no idea an entire species has great expectations for him.
As much as I wanted this Kindle Unlimited quick read to be a done in one, this page turning adventure ended before I was ready, with more questions to be answered, and the ever coveted happily ever after just out of reach.
I loved how Fay faced the responsibility of educating Obsidian on Galactic events, wanting to inform him without making him feel like she had tried to present one side or another in a better light. Her character faced some interesting dilemmas in these pages.
This one leaves us with Obsidian and Fay separated and each in a bad place. We finally learn who Obsidian is. He was not raised to be the war God. He was raised isolated without human contact. Fay is his mate. As usual, the humans she is with make bad decisions, isolating them. Though they can connect through a mate bond, a significant portion of the of the book is them learning to communicate and Fay trying to get him up to speed on how the universe works. She can’t face teaching him about the Obsidian prophecies, so when their Idyll comes to an end he is unprepared. As the last chapter comes to an end we learn how quick a study he is and that he has some amazing gifts. As in each of the recent books, we have a universe coming closer and closer to war. We appear to be poised on the very verge of it as this book comes to an end.
Corin Cain wrote another great story. I was wrapped up in the story from the beginning. I enjoyed the interactions between Fay and Obsidian. I don’t want to give too much away though.
Fay has been traveling on a spaceship for six months to catalog species of plant and animals on a planet that hasn’t had anyone there for centuries. She doesn’t expect to meet Obsidian though. Obsidian has always been in pain and the apex predator of his planet. This all changed when he finds his mate. There is some communication problems. Will they be able to work out there differences to find a life together?

I loved Obsidian and Fay together. I have mix feelings about queen Jasmine. It seems she forgot what finding your mate feels like and she is the sole reason for the upcoming war. Maybe it’s time for someone else to be queen. I think that if the empire was not so strict about Auralians finding their mates then a war would not have broken out. At this point I hope Obsidian wins. Can’t wait for the next book.
Obsidian and the Aurelian Empire I usually hate a cliffhanger enough to knock a star off a good book but this one deserved all five stars. We finally meet Obsidian and love him as much as his fated mate Fay does. I can’t wait to read the next book, this one was fantastic… I received a free copy of this book. She is ours even though she looks at us like monsters. He knows she will complete them all and he can not wait until she was willing. How will it all go? Will she finally want them as much as they want her? How will life go? See just how it all goes

This is the final book of the Captive Mates series, and sets the scene for the next series in the Aurelian world. As such, it ends on a cliff hanger. I have mixed feelings about the Aurelian world, some books I really enjoy, others aren't for me, us however I keep getting attracted back to try another one. I was drawn in to this book from the start, and enjoyed reading it.
It took me a bit to warm up to this one, but once it really started connecting back to the earlier books, I loved it. I'm so excited to see where it all goes!
I highly recommend reading at least a couple of the earlier books first to get a sense of what's going on in the Aurelian Empire. Actually, read them all; they're great!
So we finally meet Obsidian. I liked him better than I thought I would, the poor, midi desktops lug. But dang. The story isn't over. Now I have to wait AGAIN!!!
I enjoyed reading this book, it has an entertaining storyline. The interaction and chemistry between the characters is great. The only thing I find wrong is that it ended with a cliffhanger. I received this book 📚, as a FREE ARC copy to read and I voluntarily leave this review
Well finally book 10. It’s been a long journey to get here. So how extremely annoying to find this doesn’t conclude the story!! If only I had read these reviews at book 1. Not sure I would have started.
