I, Yuki, have no intention of admitting it. Never. The last thing I will ever do is plead guilty to the crime of maybe possibly having a soft spot for my cheeky playboy of an underclassman-who's an absolute brat-Naruse. Speaking of which, instead of focusing on his strange grade school rivalry with this Shizuka guy, he needs to get his head in the game and focus on our qualifiers...!! Maybe I was expecting too much from him, after all...

I’m still not superrrr convinced on this but I like to trust the process. Yuki and naruse are cute but I just don’t see how this is going to develop. My problem is Yuki admitted to herself that she already feels some type of way about him in volume 1, normally that doesn’t happen for a while, and I wouldn’t really have a problem with this but the way she’s acting just has me confused HAHA she won’t actually say she likes him out loud but her actions def scream she has some sort of feelings for her. I’m also just not super attached to naruse. I think he does have some similarity to usui (I know a lot of people compare him to usui) but he’s just not at that level yet in my opinion. He goes after what he wants and I like how he speaks his mind and has eyes for only Yuki but I’m just not convinced yet. I do like the sports aspect and how much the team and basketball mean to both Yuki and naruse! I want to see a little more of that in the next coming volumes. I also see this guy from an opposing team continuously pop up and he just has trouble written all over. I think he’s going to be the second male lead and cause some sort of love triangle and I’m 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫 haha I don’t want it to happen!!! I think the story overall just needs to pick up the pace. This volume was just ok but I’m looking forward to the next!

Reread 10/16/25 - I enjoyed this one overall! But it was definitely a bit slower than book 1.

Original read - March 2024

I liked some scenes of this one, but a lot of Naruse's behavior rubbed me the wrong way in this one. He came off as pouty and sulky. We get a bit more background for him, but not much relationship growth.

I LOVED this volume! Considering how much I was super on the fence with volume one in how pushy Naruse is (and how I even basically dropped the series because of it only to try the series one more time), I was glad he "backed up" somewhat, but I think more than that, we saw some depth to his character. He's not just some playboy who is into Yuki, but genuinely loves basketball and was glad that actually shined through a lot more because I love my sports elements. LOL!

I very much enjoyed the date that takes place in this volume because Yuki was so adorable! She probably hate me saying so, but it is the truth! LOL! I also really enjoyed seeing the development of her feelings for Naruse, even if he at times does act like the most impossible guy. LOL!!

Ahhh Shizuka!! While I'm definitely hoping this doesn't turn into some kind of love triangle, I LOVEEEEEE his character! He's definitely the opposite of Naruse and makes the perfect foil in this series! I deeply enjoyed seeing them playing against each other on court and hope that we WILL see him again!

Naruse is Naruse and not sure what else to say. LOL! Granted, he too had growth in this volume and really enjoyed getting to know him better. I feel it will be slow-going (in a good way!) in getting to actually know him better, but I feel after this volume, I'm totally here for it! While he may still irk me just like he does Yuki, I'm hoping these two will have a consensual romantic moment (mainly by Yuki if I'm honest LOL) here soon.

Also the ending! SO GOOD! (The bonus comic was super funny! LOL)

I enjoy the characters and development between them :) Naruse cares more than he lets on and Yuki has more feelings than she lets on. Its cute seeing both of those sides come out.

Yuki won’t admit she likes Naruse. Naruse goofs off, or does he? An old teammate of Naruse’s enters the picture, but he’s scared of girls. Basketball happens and a date happens and kisses are stolen, but when has love ever been this dull?

Last volume that Christmas party really saved things; too bad Christmas comes but once a year and it won’t be saving anything this volume, which isn’t terribly romantic and not especially interesting either.

The fact that this basketball team apparently can’t function without Naruse is something else, so when he swans off like a prima donna to go on a break without saying anything, they all implode like they go on that court as his backup dancers and little else.

When it turns out that he’s been practicing this entire time on his own so he won’t let them down? Who cares! There’s a serious cult of personality around Naruse for no especially good reason - even his thoughtful gesture to Yuki on their date is spelled wrong for pity’s sake.

And that date is absolutely boring. Yuki says she refuses to let her emotions show, except she does all the dang time and these two have about zero chemistry this time around. There’s no especially good reason for these two to be dating except that they’re on the cover - this whole thing is like watching somebody drag a sack around.

I feel bad for Yuki, whose family is being played mostly for comedic effect but are actually horrible human beings who do nothing but take advantage of her nature. They should have tossed the romance and just focused on how much effort she puts into managing the basketball team.

Between Naruse’s hissy fits there is the broad suggestion that he might grow up a little, but it explains nothing about why Yuki would find him attractive now. Yes, I get that she says all the things she bottles up elsewhere when she’s around him, but that feels like the relationship you have with your therapist, not your lover.

Shojo about basketball are a dime a dozen and there isn’t even the ‘oh they’re so trashy, give me more’ aspect of the first volume here. Waiting For Spring is pretty by-the-numbers, but it’s more interesting than this by a mile.

Looking over the reviews for book one, I see a lot of people comparing this to Maid-sama!, which I could totally see, and that may easily explain why this is doing nothing for me, as I don’t like that series either.

2 stars - from guilty pleasure to just guilty in a single volume. I am very ambivalent about bothering with a third volume of this now and we’ll just see what else is released the week it comes out, I guess.

I love Naruse Shou, but him in his highschool era? Not so much. Definitely not in the first few volumes, at least.

I want to say that I have just read too much yaoi and yuri to appreciate this but that is not the case. This story is problematic and dull. I should’ve known better than to pick up a story circled around sports. Doing sports right is difficult and throwing a toxic relationship in doesn’t help. The two main characters are horrible for each other. The romance is like a playground crush with constant verbal jabs and physical humor. The dialogue is repetitive and I have not a clue how this series could possibly go on for 23 volumes with its vapid characters and boring basketball premise. Volume 1 wasn’t bad but I saw the formula in volume 2 and I’m not a fan. Sorry.

This was as dull as Naruse’s personality. Sorry but I don’t find a single thing about him charming. It was nice seeing his facade crack just a little, but still… I can barely stand him. I gave it 2 volumes but I’ll toss in the towel here.

YESSSS, she finally convinced her love to Narus (in one way or another). Man her smile when they won was indeed a man-killer.
