She's my best friend from childhood. The girl I thought I loved once. And the woman who just threatened to put me in jail, courtesy of the case she's prosecuting in court. She's also now my prisoner.

Sloane Brennan thought she was on top of the world. Hell, she was on top of the world. But she's also the daughter of my father's enemy, and when my father decides to kidnap her and use her as leverage against her own father, then puts me in charge of watching over her...

Let's just say it puts ideas in my head. Bad, bad ideas. Ideas that I've been fantasizing about for years.

After all, I'm supposed to be taking care of her while she's under the Rossi umbrella, right? And no one actually defined what that means. Right?

When the plan goes awry, though, and it becomes apparent that Sloane's life is actually in danger and my feelings run a whole lot deeper than I realized, I have to recalculate my actions, and decide whether my loyalty is to the family... or the girl I've always loved.

*Her Romeo is the second book of three in Sloane and Joseph's story, and is a dark mafia romance and includes violence and mature sexual themes. If you’re triggered by guns, sex, rape, or murder, this isn’t the series for you.

zzzzzzz.. this book was very boring. it was all the same stuff, basically just repeating the fact that sloane & joseph had once loved eachother and been bestfriends, and also that sloane was apart of an irish mafia family. if i didn’t get it at first, the next 15 times the phrase was worded differently, i got it. boring, even the action parts of it were just not great to me. i just wanted to finish it because it was so short, but definitely didn’t really get into it/enjoy it. 2/10

*I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review*

The first in the Mafia Rogues series following Sloane Brennan, the daughter of the Irish Mafia Don and Joseph, son of the rival clan. Joseph is ordered by his father to kidnap Sloane and drop her off in Italy to be watched by another Don. When he arrives, he realizes he can't leave Sloane alone, as her life is in danger. He decides to keep watch over her until she can be returned home to her father in New York.

I was a bit disappointed in this one after reading the prequel. I still really love the concept of the son and daughter of two rival Mafia gangs who used to be best friends but were told they couldn't be near one another. I enjoyed the forbidden romance aspect in this, but I found it to become very repetitive very quickly, which became extremely annoying to me. I liked both Joseph and Sloane as characters, and enjoyed the dual POV to get to know the characters even more. I am intrigued to see how their story ends, as the story did end on a pretty big cliff hanger.

First off I really want to thank bookstagrammers and spitfire press for sending me the ARC for me to read.

I loved this book more than I thought i would Romeo and Juliet retelling says usually hit or miss for me but this one wow!

Romeo and Juliet with a modern twist with a splash of mafia romance.

The chemistry between Joseph and Sloane is immeasurable and just flows so well throughout the book. The amount of spice throughout the pages is perfect.

It is the perfect book for anyone who usually enjoys slow burn; Mafia romance and second chance romance with the added mystery and intrigue.

PSA; I’m not the greatest at reviews but I hope it’s tempting you all to read this book :)

A modern twist to Romeo and Juliette although in this version they fluctuate between love and hate. Toss in the added suspense of being from opposing mafia families, a kidnapping and a violent double cross and you have a toxic situation to enhance those strong emotions of love and hate. Toss in some bedroom aerobics and you have a fun romance to read in a few hours. It is a short story or novella, and it does end on a major cliffhanger so be prepared for that. It almost feels like the author is writing a book, but publishing in sections rather than the full book. All in all, I'm hooked now and can't wait to see how it wraps up in the next book!

Thank you to the author and the publisher, Spitfire Press, for sharing an ARC of this great book with me through Bookstagrammers.com!!!

“Not enemy. Never that. Son of my father’s enemy, yes”

“She’d always been mine.”

You’re telling me I have to wait for I don’t know how long for a sequel to this amazing mafia romance ???
No way I’ll live through that !!!
Not only this great author started building up my expectations with her first novella , “A very Rossi Christmas”, but she made the torture even more terrible it’s this great start of a series !!!!
I already can’t wait for another book to be out !!
A forbidden relationship between the son and the daughter of two rival mafia bosses. They were once best friend and reformed something for each other. Then they were forced to become enemies and now they’re real enemies … and we all know where this is leading to !!
Yes, I was expecting spice. And I got it.
Yes, I was expecting a possessive mafia romance. And I got it.
But the plot surprised me completely!!
It was deeper than I imagine it’s be and way more interesting!
Honestly if you haven’t already check this one out, out the 22rd this month because you’re gonna regret it !!
It’s not necessary that you’ve read the first novella but it might be useful to have a clearer version of Joseph and Sloane’s relationship !!!
I thought I’d started feeling something for Joseph … after this one I’m sure !!
And I know a lot more people will!!

“Which meant I had to stop waiting to see if he was going to save me, and get to work on saving myself.”

“let that stupid, possessive beast that lived inside me come roaring to life, eager to build a wall around the girl I’d always thought of as mine.”

Want to thank bookstagrammers.com program for the ARC

This book start 3 years after the prequel and once again MCs cross paths again but this time danger in in every corner.
They love/hate each other: he is the heir of the rival family of Sloan and they used to be best friends in kids. Not only that but Sloan actually is lawyer and against Joseph's family style.
I fall in love with the prequel and now even more but I'm made with Quinn: how dare you to end the book like that? Now I need a date for the next book! :)

Thank you to Spitfire Press for gifting me an Arc of Her Romeo in exchange for a review!

Her Romeo is a sexy retelling of the classic tale of Romeo and Juliet. In this one, the star crossed lovers happen to be heirs to rival mafia families.

Forbidden romance AND mafia? Sign me up!

Sloan Brennan and Joseph Rossi had defied all the rules of their rivaling families to become the very best of friends. They’ve been inseparable since they were little kindergarteners, obviously in secret in order to protect themselves and their friendship.

After being caught by Joseph’s family at the end of their senior year, the beautiful and forbidden friendship they share comes to an end.

Fast forward a few years, Joseph finds Sloan again and the former best friends end up spending an activity filled night *wink wink* (These events take place in the prequel novel titled ‘A very Rossi Christmas’)

The story jumps ahead a few years again in Her Romeo. This time, Sloan is back in New York as a qualified and highly skilled lawyer. Her most recent case? Putting Joseph Rossi behind bars for racketeering.

Joseph, on the other hand, is ordered by his father to kidnap Sloan in an attempt to get her father to yield the current war between the two families. The only problem with this is that Joseph can’t seem to forget about their one night spent together and the many years of friendship that came before that.

This book was filled with longing, forbidden romance and fatal attraction. It’s high stakes, it’s romantic, it’s everything you wish for in a mafia novel.

It had some of the best tropes I’ve ever read such as enemies to friends back to enemies to lovers and I absolutely adored every second of it.

Sloan is a badass character, I loved it because mafia novels sometimes tend to make their female characters weak. I also loved Joseph’s character because he wasn’t a complete asshole like some characters from other mafia books.

Overall, it was a quick and fun read especially if you love reading about the mafia world, and definitely if you love a good ol’ forbidden romance!

Her Romeo was a fast-paced read with a unique take on the original Romeo and Juliet story. A forbidden friendship between Sloane and Joseph crumbled when their mafia fathers found out they were spending time together, and since then, the two have been on opposing sides. But when a reconnection in LA reignites sparks between them, it’s only a matter of time before they succumb to their attraction again, even if they know they can never really be together.

Sloane and Joseph were both characters with great potential, and I enjoyed watching them interact with each other, knowing that they used to love each other and were best friends. However, I felt that in almost every chapter, they were both constantly thinking about their pasts and how they shouldn’t fall for each other again; it quickly felt a bit repetitive to me. I didn’t really feel individually connected to Sloane or Joseph either, but I did understand the attraction between the them. The build up between them was super slow as well, which I wasn’t expecting, but I can see how that could lead to more chemistry and spice between the two in the sequel. The plot was interesting and kept me engaged; I love a good story that has a full plot as well as some spice.

Overall, this wasn’t a new favorite romance of mine, but I think it set a good foundation for what is meant to happen next between Sloane and Joseph!

TW for attempted rape, sexual content, violence, death.

Thanks so much to Spitfire Press for the ARC of Her Romeo by Quinn Marlowe.

“what are you doing?” Gets shoved against wall “What’s happening” gets shoved against wall “what’s going on” gets shoved against wall “where are we” oh guess what she gets shoved against a wall “why” gets shoved against a door
SLOANE SHUT UP!!!! GOD, YOUR SO ANNOYING I'm about to shove you against a wall. She asks these questions over and over and over again on almost every page. There's hardly any dialogue between all the characters. Just mostly paragraph after paragraph of describing what is happening. You are inside the MC heads most of the time that you really never get a sense of who they are and who they are to each other.

I wish I had read the book before this cause then I’d been saved from reading this piece of horse manure. But this says it’s book one in the series but then the other one said it’s book one. Ughhhhhh whatever. Just glad it’s only 200 pages and it got me closer to a bingo on my card at work. I better win something from this

If a slow burn mafia romance is your thing.. this is the book for you!

And when I say slow burn, I really mean s l o w burn. While the storyline dragged a bit, it does read fast, which I liked. I probably finished this book in a couple of hours and by the last 5 chapters I was invested in these characters and was eager to find out what happens next.

I enjoyed the banter between the main characters, I just wished there was more chemistry. For two individuals that were childhood friends who had time apart and then reconnected.. it seemed a bit lacking. With it being centered around mafia, I just expected more tension and drama.

Overall, I actually enjoyed this book more than I thought I would have. It’s your typical Romeo + Juliet story line without it being so drab, which is always a plus.

I also want to thank Bookstagrammers and Spitfire Press for sending me an ARC. :)

This was my first venture into mafia romance and it didn’t disappoint.

The relationship between Sloane and Joseph is just 😍. I love how fiercely protective of her he is; even though it is literally deadly to him. But he just can’t help it! I love that protectiveness from him!

I really enjoyed the plot, the spice wasn’t the only thing in the plot and I liked that. I liked that the story was more than just spice. I’m excited to see where it goes!

This felt a little too fast-paced for my taste. So I couldnt really connect or love the characters like I would've liked. I did enjoy the action and romance between Joseph and Sloane but I wanted more from them. I hope we get more of that in the next book. Certain parts felt a little repetitive but it wasn't too bad. Overall, I thought that this was a decent read.

Quinn Marlowe shows up again. The chemistry between Joseph and Sloane is enough to incinerate the pages. Her Romeo flows just as effortlessly as the prequel. Quinn stokes the fire of suspense and passion, keeping the reader invested.
The story picks up 3 years after the prequel and it starts with shocking circumstances. I didn’t see it coming. Both MCs are caught in the middle of their feuding families, just in totally different ways.
Marlowe has created a fast paced and page turning book that has you clamoring for more.

I was not ready for this book to end. I need the next book like yesterday.

This book really drew me in from the first page and I just knew it was going to be excellent, although I do wish there was a little more to the first book, there were some bits that seems perhaps a little rushed but it all flowed well and read well.

I will be like a starving book dragon hunting for book two that's for certain, I love that this book has focused on every aspect from the plot to the bond between the two main characters. I am highly awaiting the next book to see these characters evolve and grow together.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

For a "Spicy Mafia Romance", this book barely had any romance moments and the book basically consisted just of the kidnapping.
Very disappointed, especially since I thoroughly enjoyed the first book.

I'm hoping the third book will redeem this series for me. I would love to see the relationship of Brennan and Rossi blossom!!!

I nearly DNF'd this book. I was looking forward to reading it as I quite liked the Prequel (His Obsession) but this book was not enjoyable. The amount of times the FMC kept saying 'He was my best friend' 'We grew up as best friends' the constant repeat of the information surrounding how they used to be friends was boring and quite frankly ruined the story. Too much happened at the beginning which meant the rest of the book draaaaaagged. Will not be reading anymore of the series.

This was a really enjoyable read. The protagonists—Joseph and Sloan—had this little love-hate relationship going on. Their families are long-time rivals, and this feud looms heavily over their decades-long friendship. Recommended if you want a short and spicy mafia romance novel.

First, let me preface this by saying there ARE some content that may be triggering so be sure to check for Trigger Warnings about this book.

Also, even though this book says book one & can be read as a standalone, there is a short about these characters that takes place before these events that is mentioned throughout the story. Yes it can be read without reading that, BUT to get the full story of these characters (& know what they are talking about) it's best to read A Very Rossi Christmas first.

Sloane Brennen, is the daughter of Irish Brennen, one of the head Mafia families who live in New York. And also, someone who got out. She didn't want that life. She is an up and coming head lawyer. One who just landed her the case of all cases. That of Joseph Rossi.

Joseph Rossi was the son of Jimmy Rossi, the head of the other Mafia in New York. One who stayed in the life. One who used to be best friends with Sloane once upon a time. And one who now has a job to do.

Kidnap Sloane and turn her over to Reno, the guy in Italy more frightening than anyone else Joseph has ever met. All to get her father to fall in line, and follow the rules Jimmy set out. And, bonus with her gone, Joseph won't see the case Sloane has against him hit the courtroom.

It should be easy. Kidnap Sloane, hand her over and walk away. Sloane's life may now be in danger, so Joseph must now figure out if his loyalties lie, with his family or with the girl he has always loved.

This was a quick read. If you are into enemies to lovers, forbidden mafia romances then this book checks all of those boxes.

It's a Romeo and Juliet retelling- two families, sworn enemies and at war with one another, and the heirs of the families dealing with hidden attractions & feelings for one another. From friends to enemies to lovers, this brings that second chance romance to life.

Is Joseph the man Sloane remembers from their past, or has his father gotten his claws in too deep?

Is Sloane the girl Joseph once loved and saved countless times or has the years apart changed her?

And what will happen between Joseph and Sloane now that their lives may be in danger?

I can't wait to find out the answer to these questions and more. 4⭐ out of 5⭐.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

She's my best friend from childhood. The girl I thought I loved once. And the woman who just threatened to put me in jail, courtesy of the case she prosecuting in court. She's also now my prisoner. I am obsessed with this book!!!! This is a modern twist to Romeo and Juliet. This is a love/hate story though as she is the daughter of his fathers enemy. But when they were younger Joseph thought he could have loved Sloane and they were really good friends. But now things are different and she is is now an attorney threatened to put him in jail. Sloane is at the top of her games and doing good living her own life. But when she is taken by the Rossi family you know that things are about to get very interesting when a violent double cross that causes a toxic situation and emotions of love and hate are flying all over the place. I don't want to say to much about the story as I am afraid I will give something away and I don't want to do that. I loved this book and couldn't put it down. You do not want to miss this book.

This short novel is the sequel to the teaser novella A Very Rossi Christmas, and is the second book in the series... it picks up three years after the events in AVRC.

Sloane Brennan is the daughter of the Irish mob boss in NYC, and Joseph Rossi is the oldest son and heir apparent to the Italian mob in New York... they use to secretly be best friends as children until their circumstances torn them apart on the night of their high school graduation. Over the last eight years, Sloane had distanced herself as much as possible from the family business as she studied to become a lawyer. Joseph, on the other hand, leaned into his role and worked his way to becoming his father's right hand man. Three years ago, a chance encounter in LA led to a one-night-only affair. Now Sloane is back in NYC as a lawyer and prosecuting Joseph for racketeering. Despite this, they’re obviously still fighting the emotions they've been worked hard to ignore all these years. When the simmering tensions between their feeding families reaches the boiling point, the pair finds themselves literally caught in the crossfire. Before she knows what’s happened, Sloane’s kidnapped by Joseph, transported to Italy, and held as leverage until her father bends to the will of Joseph’s father. As the pair realize that they don’t know who they can trust and that whatever plans there were have gone awry, they find themselves fighting not just their safety but also for a chance at a future together. It they can make it out of Italy alive

This ends on a cliffhanger, ensuring you'll keep reading to get to the end of the story (and hopefully a happy ever after). There's Romeo-Juliet style mafia romance if that's your thing, good girl-bad boy trope, and steam.

I really liked the mafia idea but plot was just not sensical. Sloane was smart, she’s a prosecutor that won most cases. But she made the most illogical decisions. Why would she not notice that prosecuting Joseph at that time was the worst timing ever??? And as the beloved daughter of the mob leader, and the whole mob coming to save her when she was surrounded by Rossi soldiers, why did nobody tell her anything about what was happening? She had a phone. And with the low tech in the book, I doubt anyone will hack the phone call. So they could have just told her not to come and avoided all the bloodshed... And Joseph, I cannot understand what is going on inside his head. Because he’s literally got an empty brain. His father got the brains, Hugo got malicious plans and Joseph was just chilling. And the writing style really put readers off. Too much irrelevant thoughts during exciting action scenes. They were about to get shot and Joseph was rambling about how perfect Sloane was. He really should save it for another time. Regardless, Sloane and Joseph getting together is to die for.

I was expecting that 'Her Romeo' would pick up soon after the events of the prequel, but it actually takes place 3 years after all those events.

We start with a more "grown-up" version of both Sloane and Joseph, both on very different sides of the line. Literally. Sloane just prosecuted in court, and is trying to get Joseph in jail. From childhood friends, to lovers, to, well, practically enemies. However, the playing board is changing, and now Sloane is a prisoner, and Joseph is a free man.

Sloane gets kidnapped by Joseph's father, to use her for leverage. The feud between the mob bosses is ever growing, and it starts to become more and more dangerous, now there are lives one the line.

I enjoyed how easy going the writing is of Quinn Marlowe, it made reading the book very easy (also a recommendation for those who struggle with reading English!) and I just flew through it.

However, if you are here for mafia smut books, then I wouldn't go for this book. Mostly, since smut is a very tiny thing in this book, it is very action packed and full of exciting things! So be prepared :D

I really don't need to read the same information over a dozen times in over a dozen different ways. I got it the first time.
The first book said it all repeatedly.
This book repeats it all again, multiple times.
Sloane for some weird reason decides to drive through a war zone instead of phoning her parents to find out if they're still alive. 20 ft from safety Joseph puts a cloth over her face and picks her up then walks back to his side. Surely within 20 ft he'd have been shot in the head not in his arm by her dad's men? Why does she think her dad will save her when she was on her way to see if he's still alive?
There's a gun fight in the plane at high altitude. No one can see because of smoke bombs. There's 9 or 10 of his men that know one mentions after 2 show up then suddenly disappeared. Bullets are flying but none hit windows or walls.
Weirdly shooting a guy laying on the floor in the head didn't blow a hole in the floor! How did this plane not crash? Shooting the co pilot never made a hole in plane either.
Does this author not watch disaster movie's?.

I'm bored. I've read the same thing so many times now I don't want read it all again in book 3.
I'm done !
