A serial killer’s sick game has landed an honest detective behind bars.
After the prison warden’s brutal murder, the roles reverse in the ongoing investigation. The hunter becomes the hunted, leaving Calum on the receiving end of the interrogation.
As tensions flame higher and higher, the entire police department starts to turn against the detective. The crookedness runs deeper than he ever thought—mysterious clues dropped by the prison psychologist suggest his father’s untimely death is also implicated.
Calum has fallen straight into Angus’s twisted trap, and there seems to be no way out. The walls of the interrogation room are closing in on him, and he’s facing a lifetime punishment for crimes he didn’t commit.
Who killed the warden? Why was Calum framed? And what really happened to his father?
The only way to find out is a final showdown with the cruel, corrupt police captain.
This is book three of The Yubitsume Principle series and the main characters are police detective Calum and death row prisoner and serial killer Angus. Calum is visiting Angus on the eve of his execution, to learn about the monster behind the killings and why he did it. With the shocking death of the prison warden from within the very walls of his prison, matters are getting tense. The captain arrests him on obstruction charges, although he clearly had nothing to do with the murder and locks him up in one of the meeting rooms with one of her officers, one of her yes men! It seems the captain isn’t above playing out a scene and having her men rush in, making it look like Calum tried to harm her, turning any other officer there against him completely. Angus clearly knew what was going to happen and even knows who did this, having given Calum a vague clue in his earlier conversation. Now it is up to Calum to work out how to speak to this other person and figure out what to do with the information he receives. His captain has told him he will be stuck in a cell for life, for his part in all of this, even though he hasn’t done anything. She has the media in the palm of her hands and has twisted the tale to make herself look good and blame Calum for everything. He has to work out what he can do from the position of weakness he seems to be in and work out how this connected to the death of his own father and why he was involved in the first place! The captain is a nasty piece of work and as corrupt as they come, keeping similar company and forever having to hide her true self. Calum needs to get his backbone up and face her with strength, or rot in a prison cell for eternity. This is a short story told in even smaller segments, that you have to piece together to get the full scope of what is happening now and in the past, with the killer and Calum. It definitely has to be read in order and won’t make much sense if you haven’t read the previous short segments. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above. 3 ½ - 4 star
This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series! Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
In The Name of the Father is the 3rd book in the Yubitsume Principle series. What can I say….as these tales progress, they get better and better. Calum may be a detective, but if he is not careful, he will find himself incarcerated, especially since he is now being framed for murder. Another wonderful read from Charles Elliot. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Now that the Captain has played her trump card, Calum is left in the outer office of the Warden who is lying dead in his inner office. The Captain thinks she is in charge but what she does not know will hurt her. This short story is intense like the prequel and the first 2 books and also ends in a cliffhanger. Highly recommended.
I picked up this series cause I thought it'd be great having some short stories to fill extra time with. Yeah, THAT didn't happen as planned. Before I realized it, I was finishing the 3rd story. This series pulls you in, I couldn't flip the pages fast enough. The more I read this authors' work, the more I like it. I definitely recommend the author AND this series.
Wow, what a real twist in the tale. This story just keeps giving, I love the plot and the unpredictability of it all. The characters fit well with how you would imagine them to be. Don’t miss out, You have to read this series. I received this arc for free and I wanted to leave an honest review.
