Sweet Christian Romance

This was a sweet romance with a lovable heroine and a reformed hero. Although some of details stretched credibility, the story came to a heartwarming conclusion.

I never heard of the crime of a dead man having to be paid by an abandoned daughter. But that was the premise for this book, er, short story.

Charlotte Singleton had been abandoned at an orphanage days after she was born. The man she had never met swindled people, then died with the debts not paid. The law stated, according to this book, that a blood relative must take the prison sentence that would have been her father's. But rather than living the rest of her life in the wretched prison called Newgate, she was taken on a ship bound for America and there she’d be sold.

Fortunately for her, the captain had a life change not long ago, and his new life in Christ meant he would retire from this indentured ship career after this voyage. He hired men with fine reputations so the women wouldn’t be ill-treated.

The faith element in this book was done quite well. It was throughout the story, so it’s evident the author's savior is important to her. I liked that.

Pretty good story.
