The Selfish #2

Staying Selfless

Rate this book
LOGAN
From the outside looking in, everything was perfect.

I had friends. I was in love. School was going great.

I managed to hide the pain, to push it down, but it all came flooding back.

The grief was almost blinding, but I saw Eli’s broken heart with perfect clarity the day I drove away from him.

This was my year to be selfish. Falling in love with my best friend's brother wasn't part of my plan, but sometimes the best things in life are unpredictable.

And the end of Eli’s senior year was anything but expected.

ELI
My priorities completely flipped when my brother's best friend moved to town. Everything I never knew I needed came in the form of a redhead from California with a heart too big for her own good.

But Logan drove away from me, leaving me broken-hearted and alone.

With my senior season winding down, it's my last chance to get called up to the NHL, and my dreams are within reach—it's everything I always wanted. But that was before I met her. How much do I need to sacrifice to prove to her that she's my dream too?

If she asked me to, I'd selflessly give it all up for her.

If you haven’t read this book, we’re not friends. This is hands down one of the best sports romances I’ve ever read and if you don’t read it you are automatically uncool. I don’t make the rules… but I totally do. Read this book. Cool people read books about the main male lead (our king Eli) dealing with their mental health. Cool people read books about the main female lead (our badass Logan) deal with their mental health. Cool people read books where a couple is able to grow as individuals and together. Cool people read books with the found family trope. Cool people read about main and side characters making the book more interesting. Cool people read Liz Tomforde books.

I don't know how to start writing this review because what is the point of my life if I don't have someone like Eli to share it with? :(

This duet is simply beautiful and extremely cute, so I will say thank you to Isa for telling me that I had to make it a priority on my TBR list.

Logan my sweet sweet girl, this woman has been through A LOT, and the level of strength and resilience she had is just admirable, her evolution in dealing with her grief is so real and heartbreaking, however, this just goes to show you how with a good support system a person can overcome any obstacle.

Eli, I don't think I will stop thinking about you for a long time baby, I am the type of person who LOVES the trope where a playboy decides to change when he is in love, but being honest there is nothing I HATE more than when that character does something incredibly idiotic and it takes almost half the book for him to admit his mistakes, so I will say THANK YOU to the author because this was never the case in this book, Eli was always the perfect boyfriend, proving that "if he wanted to he would"

This relationship is the perfect example of how when two people are committed to being together there is nothing that can separate them, I love it when a couple is mature and communicates their feelings to have a healthy and stable relationship, because yes extreme drama is fun but personally there is nothing I love more than reading about two people who are determined to not let anything negative influence the level of commitment they have to each other.

Oh and btw, I NEED Marc and Ali's book ASAP, I loved them and need to read them get their happy ending!!!!!

Yo. This book is def better than the first one, giving it a higher rating so I’m glad I read it. A couple of unfiltered thoughts
-I know he’s not supposed to be the star of the book but EVAN ZANDERS makes more of an appearance and I LOVE HIM. I love him for Eli. I love him as a person. Tbh I didn’t care for him as much after Mile High but this book gives you more insight into his heart. I see the Zanders hype now.
- FMC is kind but tbh there’s not much to her personality wise in comparison to the colorful women Liz Tomforde’s written about. She’s much more reserved and does lack personality despite everyone in the book hyping her up. She’s just hot and kind. Not much of a sense of humor.
- Marc and Ali’s relationship reminds me so much of Ross and Rachel’s from Friends. It’s annoying and they make it over complicated. Not a fan. Marc is too good for Ali and that’s my opinion.
- MMC is so very romantic and thoughtful. Anxious attachment for sure (I’m a therapist hahah had to say it).
The tropes in this one are wild and will throw you in for a loop. I did cry.

we all deserve an eli🥲❤️

this book picked up where becoming selfish finished off with logan heading back to California leaving eli in Minnesota to take some time to deal with the grief of losing her dad and mom.

there was a lot that I loved about this book…holy the letters from logan’s mom had me in tears, the paper that eli wrote about logan from book one (….😫😭❤️), the relationship between logan, mary & jack, i liked seeing more about the boys in the house in this book and how the relationship grew between logan and them(also now understanding who eli&logans live in nanny in!!!!! Obsessed), the effing epilogues……

gosh this book got me in my feelings.

But listen the real star of the show for me was marc&ali and as soon as I finished I went back to mile high to see if I could find any hints about marc&ali because I AM INVESTED!!!!!!

I now realized after I finished these books that liz is having an issue with her publisher so she won’t be writing any books about characters from these books😭😭 I hope it works out because she deserves better than that and also because I seriously need a marc&ali story!!

5/5⭐

Honestly, this was so bad I wanted to cry. I skimmed over so much stuff because it was just exhausting. There's drama and then there's DRAMA. Also, Never thought I'd use the term again but: Logan is a fucking Mary-Sue. She's the perfect angel and can do no wrong and holy shit that's annoying. Eli is a clingy bitch in this and everything about this was boring and predictable,
Just. No.

First let me tell you that I cried a lot during this book. I thought thay maybe this book was going to be about Marc and Ali but I was wrong. This book is telling the rest of the story of Eli and Logan and I love it! It was a real emotional rollercoaster, with a few twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat. You have to read this PERIOD! I maybe think I like this books better then the Windy City series...

the selfish series have climbed really high up in my ranking of favorite sports romance books, and i've read quite a few. this one was a ride. i dropped it for a while but i knew that i had to eventually come back to them. eli and logan are so special to me.

my first liz tomforde book i read was mile high, completely oblivious of the existence of these ones, so it was a wonderful surprise when i fell upon the story of these two characters who i already loved and i was really happy to be able to be part of their journey. they're just really personal to me okay?? i've been spending time with them for the past couple of months, during a lot of late nights and commutes to school since the beginning of the semester and since i'm not ready to say goodbye to them yet i guess a windy city series reread is in order. i have a lot of school reading i should be doing instead but im not sorry at all

Logan, our resilient protagonist, grapples with pain hidden beneath her seemingly perfect exterior. Her journey unfolds against the backdrop of love, friendship, and self-discovery. Tomforde masterfully portrays Logan’s vulnerability, making her relatable and endearing.

And then there’s Eli, the hockey-playing dreamer with a heart as vast as the California sky. His priorities shift when Logan enters his life, challenging his ambitions and stirring emotions he never knew existed. Their connection is electric, their chemistry palpable.

What sets “Staying Selfless” apart is its authenticity. Tomforde doesn’t shy away from portraying the complexities of relationships—the doubts, the sacrifices, and the moments that redefine our paths. Eli’s unwavering pursuit of Logan tugs at heartstrings, reminding us that love isn’t always a smooth ride.

The sensitive portrayal of grief and mental health issues adds depth to the narrative. Tomforde handles these themes with care, emphasizing the importance of self-development and therapy. It’s refreshing to see these discussions within the context of sports—a realm often associated with toughness and resilience.

As I turned each page, I felt the characters’ struggles resonate within me. Their imperfections made them real, their growth inspiring. The pacing was spot-on, keeping me engaged from start to finish.

There's wit, heart, and realism, creating a novel that lingers long after the final chapter. Whether you’re a sports romance enthusiast or simply seeking a beautifully crafted love story, this book won’t disappoint.

I can only say I LOVE this extended love story. This feeling that we get when we finish a romance book of “I wish I have more of the MCs”? Well we get this in this duet and more.

We grow with the couple. We cry with them. We laugh with them. We feel so proud of their achievements and anger when they’re being wronged.

My Random thoughts 💭 while reading this book: 👇🏻

Ok. I get that Logan is getting her shit back together and that she’s hurting and mourning and maturing up but girl WTF!!!
She’s so utterly and ridiculously rude and distant with Eli and he does not deserve this! (I did not have any patience while reading some parts of the book 😄)

Can I say Logan’s relationship with Eli’s dad is such a dream! I am so in love with this!!

Her mom’s insightful letters. OMG it’s amazing! But i am mad that Logan had to read these letters on Eli’s birthday night celebration. I mean I know she felt that’s when she needed to read them but it’s Eli’s day. It’s about celebrating him and not dwelling on her past. I am objectively speaking right now not knowing what it’s like to be going through what she’s going through (and hopefully not for a lot more years) but still it was a bit selfish of her.

As hard as I tried to like Ali, I just can’t. I dislike her tremendously. Marc deserves so much better.

I just love how level headed Logan and Eli are and how they handle problems with maturity instead of moping around, hiding their true feelings and feeling offended.

This 👇🏻
Eli: The only wedding I am going to cry at is our wedding.
Logan: oh you better cry at our wedding. If you don’t , I will literally walk down the aisle as many times as it takes until you do! 🤗🥰

Their dance at his cousin’s wedding OH MY GOD!

Again, Jack( Eli’s dad) and Logan’s relationship. Ughhhhh 😫😫😫😫

I don’t care what her motives are. I don’t care what she went through. Ali is a an authentic, genuine, deep rooted B*tch. I couldn’t care less for her. I hate her so much I can’t even describe my feelings. And Logan, or anyone else, shouldn’t be cutting her so much slack. She doesn’t deserve it!

The way everyone deals with the “Ali situation “ is so BS. No mother, brother or best friend would react or understand like that if their son, brother or best friend is hurting so damn much. They would be grilling her a**.

All that said. This his been quite a journey with both Eli and Logan. I enjoyed this book so freakin’ much.

The found family. The best friends. Their loyalty to one another. The father and mother figure that Jack and Mary represent to everyone. It’s just so wholesome. 🩷

♾️⭐️ This duet, this couple makes my heart so happy! *satisfied sigh* 🥹🩷 I‘ve had the biggest smile on my face throughout my whole reading experience. True, my smile was from time to time interrupted by my happy tears…sometimes by my sad tears, but for the most part, I was giggling and kicking my feet because of how cute Eli & Logan were together. They were truly special and I will forever remember this couple fondly.

Eli & Logan’s love story is so beautiful, so heartwarming, it has an amazing found family, it has mature characters who know how to communicate with each other, it has deep meaningful conversations, it has cheeky banter and most importantly, it has the sweetest HEA!

I will say though, these books could be considered slow paced and boring by some people. Obviously I would disagree with them because I enjoyed and devoured every second of it, but it wasn’t one of those fast paced romances with a complicated plot. It was mostly a constant progression of their love story. So keep that in mind!

So yeah, if you are in the mood for a longer (college hockey related) swoonworthy love story, this is the book for you! It wasn’t perfect, it had its flaws, but despite all that, it deserves a 5 star rating for making me feel all kinds of emotions. It will always have a special place in my heart!

Ps: English is not my first language, so I apologize for my grammatical errors ✌️

“My soul was made for yours, and your heart was created for mine”

This gave me ALL of the feels😩

I so wish that I had read this before reading Mile High…but you live and you learn🤦🏻‍♀️

I’m totally and utterly obsessed with Eli and Logan’s love story. This is a love story for the ages.

We see them go through so many ups and downs…we see struggle and growth revolving around mental health and grief. It was done in such a real, honest and relatable way. This love story felt real and honest in so many ways. It wasn’t picture perfect all the time and did deal with topics that are sensitive but so realistic to life. Getting to read a romance full of genuine vulnerability was incredible.

Eli will forever hold a special place in my heart! He’s 100000000% in my top 3 book boyfriends🥰 He’s everything you could want…a hockey player who can play rough…but in reality is so sweet and soft. He’s got one hell of a dirty mouth on him, he’s funny and the way he loves had me swooning. The way he loves Logan…ugh I’m not jealous at all. He’s absolutely obsessed with Logan and I’m here for it.

Also Logan…such a badass of an FMC. She overcomes so much throughout their story and I honestly felt so proud of her. I saw myself in her at times..it got real emotional. Like Eli, Logan can have a tough exterior in order to protect herself but in reality she’s so sweet, very funny and has a heart of good. Liz really knows how to portray her female characters in a relatable way! I adored Logan for the entirety of the book!

Getting to see them in the future…as a family….ugh my heart feels so full🥹

I will forever love the found family element of this story!

Also being able to see the origins of Zanders and Eli’s friendship and how it blossomed was everything!!! Bromance for life!

And once again, the spice🌶🤌🏻

I wish I could go back and read this for the first time again!! I feel so sad that I finished it so quickly…it was just that good!🥺

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE CHECK THE TRIGGER WARNINGS BEFORE READING!

I did a reread of this book a few months back, but I forgot to write a review. This book surpasses the first book in the series by a lot. It wielded such emotional power that I found myself in tears on numerous occasions. The depth of grief depicted within its pages left me bawling my eyes out at multiple occasions throughout this book. Liz truly crafted a narrative that resonated with me and a lot of readers on a profound level. Despite its heavier themes compared to the first book, this sequel has secured the title of my favorite book in this duet.

Eli's family's unwavering love and acceptance of Logan struck a chord with me. They embraced her as one of their own, despite her difficult past. It was heartening to witness such compassion and understanding, especially the bond between Eli's father and Logan. He understood her on a personal level and was always in her corner to support her.

Furthermore, the portrayal of anxiety and panic attacks experienced by Eli was executed with striking authenticity. Through this lens, Liz not only illuminated the complexities of mental health but made numerous readers feel seen and understood. Zanders, Eli's long-time rival, saw him in this situation and offered to help him, which made Eli realize that he might have been entirely wrong about Zanders. From there, an amazing friendship started to bloom.

I was a bit heartbroken that we never got a book for Marc and Ali. I wanted to see if they finally figured out all the dynamics of their relationship. But whatever Liz writes, I will read, and I can say for sure that I will love it.

Elilogan are soulmates. I would do anything to have what they have. The journey of them being strangers to friends to lovers. It wasn’t an easy ride because of how they both needed healing but the way they were always there for each other 🥺

The found family in this book was heartwarming. I love everyone sooo much. Especially Eli’s dad :( he’s truly the greatest supporter of elilogan and everytime he had a heart to heart conversation with elilogan I melted. Best dad 🫶🏽

Logan’s moms letter made me cry sm 😭😭 the way she left letters for every big event logan would have in her life so she could read it during that time. 🫂 🫂

Seeing elilogan in other books as parents really was everything. They are the best people to each other, to their daughter, son, Evan and their whole family 🤧🫶🏽

“Because at the end of the day, you’re my best friend. And I love you more than anyone has ever loved another person before. We have forever, so spending a little time making ourselves better is nothing compared to the rest of our lives.” SOULMATES is what they are. ‼️‼️🫶🏽🫶🏽🫂🫂

10/10. I absolutely love Eli and Logan. Their story is cute and amazing and a little sad. Eli is one of my top favorite book boyfriends and Logan is just such a badass and written so well. I gave it a 10/10 but I love Eli and Logan’s relationship but there are some things I don’t like about it.

First of all I think the book is just too long, I think it could of been shorter, some things not necessarily needed, but being so long made it hard to read, that’s why it took so long.
Also I personally don’t love Ali so all of the long in depth parts about her, I wanted to cut out. I feel like it’s Eli and Logan’s book, not Marc and Ali, and while it’s good to build a backstory for a future couple, I think it was just too much.

But I still absolutely loved the book and Eli and Logan so I will probably be rereading it multiple times but I will probably just skim read in the future.

2.7 stars - would rate higher but i try to be more critical of books and this wasnt the best but its a cute story and im honestly still not over ice breaker or from lukov with love so 🫥

so i believed this was better than the first but it was still VERY wattpad-y and ran a little long.
i really liked that eli and logan kept choosing eachother and it wasnt completely a deus ex machina kind of thing.
i loved seeing their future but damn that was a lot of epilogues 😭😭
at first i thought too much was revealed for ali and marcs arc ? tbh sometimes i still do but w/ the way it ended i feel like there still is a story there if the author decides to make it happen.

better than the first one, BUT there were many things i disliked about this book as well as liked.
anyways it was cute

This book really takes you through a roller coaster of emotions in the best way. I laughed, I cried, I cheered for people that you feel like are your family too by the end.

One of my favourite things about this series is the way it tackles important topics like grief, mental health (especially men expressing their emotions), and communication.

I will always happily recommend this series to anyone looking for a new series to read, and I can’t wait for more to read in the future!

Pretty boring, I skimmed like half of it. The wedding scene was cute tho. Something bothers me about how Logan is gods gift to all these men yet she’s not depicted as a pick me.
