Lindsay is a bratty goblin who thrives on chaos, coffee, and astronomical amounts of chocolate. When she isn't caught up living in the world in her head, you can find her at one of her favorite bottle shops, a local craft store, or planning her next vacation to the mountains.
She lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, with her husband and cat. (And her twenty-seven imaginary friends.)
After How To Tame A Brat,i needed to hear Robin’s story. Even if it ended tragically,i needed to know how happy Reuben made her… How he got her from a mute, broken slave to become his sweet little princess. And i wasn’t disappointed….it was glorious! That man has the patience of a saint….
This book is actually between 3&4 stars for me; mainly because of not knowing what is really going on. The slave, called This one in the chapter headings, is completely shut down, hasn't spoken in years, has no hope and only wishes for sweet blackness of death to take her away from her suffering. She is removed from her cage, taken to a place where she is washed and dressed and offered food and she has a melt down because she thinks she is being fattened up to be sold for parts (so although she thought she wanted to die, she really didn't). That is where the main confusion comes in and leaves so many questions: who are the people who took her, are they just more of the same monster "masters" she has had through her life of slavery or something else, there are many slaves at this place she is brought to...why are there so many slaves...she thinks it is connected to the auction house(human trafficking?) but we aren't told either way, Rueban takes her to his house and says "this one is mine" meaning what, is she still a slave?
Now don't think I have given a lot away, all these questions surface in the first few pages and you are left to figure it out as you go. I think I figured it out correctly but still am only guessing. Rueban only seems to want what is best for "this one" but you never find out why he actually chose her or what he expects of her (other than healing) or what drew him to her or why she is with him 2 years later. You can speculate but there are no firm answers. He does not appear to have any romantic, or sexual interest in her but does seem to care for her.
This author has a book coming out at the end of April called "How To Tame a Brat" and is Rueban's story and I will probably buy it in hopes of having my questions answered. I will be very annoyed it I am still left with all my questions. I really want to know who Rueban is and why he and his friends have all these slaves.
Beautifully written novella that provides some background story to Rueben's life before his "brat taming" days. I truly hope there are more of these novellas coming in the series.
The first part of the story hit me. I was hooked after that. Master and slave stories are a close favorite next to mafia. I love how gentle Rueben was being with his slave. Some parts of it are chilling and made me want to cry.
This story is different. She’s a slave and Reuben took her for his. He never hurt her or touched her. He just wanted to take care of her and in hopes one day she would fall in love with him.
It is interesting. Not what I thought it was going to be.
